The following is the case study of the abs-cbn networks teleserye of 2014, The
Legal Wife. In this drama series, Angel Locsin brings life to Monica, the legal wife of
Jericho Rosales character Adrian. Portraying Adrians obsessed mistress named Nicole
is Maja Salvador.
The Legal Wife features the story of Monica and Adrian, a married couple whose
lives turned around because of a huge mistake. Monica grew up with a little
manifestation of love from her father and two brothers. She will then realize her real
worth when she meets Adrian. However, Monica and Adrian's marriage is challenged as
Adrian and Nicole's paths continue to cross, igniting a fire that will drive Monica to fight
for her right as the legal wife.

Monicas mother Eloisa (Rio Locsin) was married to Javier (Christopher de Leon)
but she was in love with another guy named Dante (Mark Gil). As Javier decided to live
abroad and bring his two sons with him to study there, he left his wife and their daughter
Monica in their homeland also to let himself be temporarily free from heartache.
Meanwhile, as they came back to the Philippines, Eloisa decided to continue her living
as a wife of Javier and leave Dante on his own.
Monica Santiago (Angel Locsin), due to the past she encountered with her
mother Eloisa, her life is put through the test in a whole new environment with her father
Javier, and her two brothers Javi (Joem Bascon) and Jasper (Ahron Villena). She grew
in a different world apart from her life with Dante.
Times pass by, Monica became a strong woman. She met and fell in love with
Adrian (Jericho Rosales) who, later, proposed and asked Monica to be his beloved wife.
Adrian, as for Monica, was the one who taught her how to love again despite all the
circumstances shes been through. Monicas father Javier opposes to the decision of the
daughter to be married to Adrian. But because of her love for Adrian she insisted the
wedding. Every love she had, she gave it to her husband and son.
Conflicts
The conflicts began when Monica noticed something different from her husband
Adrian. To end her confusions she decided to follow Adrians steps and watch more of
where he is going. She became more observant of her husband every day until that
night in the beach pageant when she was able to prove the secret affair between her
husband Adrian and her best friend Nicole. That seemed to answer all her questions.
Pain and hatred grew unto her, both to her husband and no-longer-bestfriend Nicole.
That serves as the beginning of Adrians worst nightmare as he was locked into the
situation between his pity for Nicole being left alone and gaining back Monicas trust.
Despite all of those phenomena, Monica still managed to live with her husband in
one roof because her only concern is for her sons growth that badly needs a father.
Another conflict that bombarded Adrian and Monica when they are already planning to
move to Canada to continue their living was Nicoles pregnancy to which believed
belongs to Adrian. This made Monicas temper upsurge and lead to confronting Nicole,
fighting for her rights as the legal wife.
Alternatives
As an alternative solution and knowing about the child bearing of Nicole, Monica
decided to depart, continue her life in states, and move on, bringing her son with her.
Years has passed when Monica believed that she has already moved on, she came
back to the Philippines with her son also for the reason of continuing her unfinished
business in her fathers company. This also led to seeing Adrian again, who now acts
only as her co-worker. This made her reminisce in everything they had in the past to
when she first fell deeply in love with Adrian.
Recommendations
I think one of the best things to do in this situation is to forgive. It may be hard to
forget but atleast you forgave and continue living. As long as youve already moved on
from the incident, nothing can hurt you anymore. Besides, let it serve to be a life lesson
for you that you should really prepare yourself to be stronger so you can stand against
all the trials and fight for your own rights. Family is also more important than of your
pride. Think again of what you have just swore to God the day of your marriage.
Conclusions
In these situations, men must learn to resist from temptations of a woman
because every sin has corresponding consequences that will cause lifetime regrets.
Women may be seductive but it is not a reason to say that men are just men thats why
it is normal to them to be tempted. Families can be ruined just by a single wrong
decision, and once the persons trust is broken, it can never be fixed again no matter
how hard you try to gain it.
Fighting for your right as the legal wife is also a huge thing to keep your family.
You cannot just let go and let it be the way it has been. You need to get your husband
back maybe not for yourself but for your familys stability and for your commitment to the
Lord before your exchanging of vows.
The Legal Wifes ability to present issues of infidelity and betrayal is typically
expressive, creative and amusing, making the series highly cathartic for viewers who
might not be able to say the same lines in real life but wish to do so.
