DOTC Assistant Secretary Dante Lantin expressed high hopes for the program, which will be part of the
instructional materials for fifth grade students in public schools. He added that fifth-grade students are
chosen because it is at these ages where they are left to walk to and from their school by themselves.
Children at this stage have also developed the sense to gauge when it is safe to cross based on the vehicles
speed and traffic gaps.
The colourful flashcards portray different road scenarios, from vehicle sounds, roads and traffic signs and

Since our launch, a total of 2,557 kids underwent orientation from professional driving instructors of the Philippine Global
Road Safety Partnership, went on a practice run, completed the driving tasks given, and finally received their Junior Drivers
Licenses. Registration and participation are absolutely free.

In developed countries like Japan, aspiring drivers have to enrol in formal driving schools to be eligible for a license.
In the Philippines, most teenagers who make up the bulk of newly licensed drivers probably do not even know the
meaning of color yellow in traffic light cluster. The reason behind this is that anyone whos willing and able to pay can
secure a drivers license even without enough knowledge of traffic signs and regulations
