1: Circuit Averaging Technique I

1. Buck converter Problem

In the buck converter of Figure Q1, terminals voltage and current of the
switch network are given as v1, v2, i1 and i2. The capacitor, C, is sufficiently
large so that the output voltage, Vo, is constant. The converter operates in
CCM with inductor current repeatedly changes between iLmin and iLmax in
steady state.

Figure Q1

(a) Draw terminal switch network waveforms: v1, v2, i1 and i2. Label key
quantities.
(b) Find the average voltage conversion ratio of the switch network,
<v2>/<v1>.
(c) Find the average current conversion ratio of the switch network,
<i2>/<i1>.
(d) Construct averaged circuit model of the buck converter by replacement of
the switch network by the averaged switch model (dependent sources)
based on the equations (b) and (c).

2. Boost converter Problem

In the boost converter of Figure Q2, terminals voltage and current of the
switch network are given as v1, v2, i1 and i2. The capacitor, C, is sufficiently
large so that the output voltage, Vo, is constant. The converter operates in
CCM with inductor current repeatedly changes between iLmin and iLmax in
steady state.

quantities.
(b) Find the average voltage conversion ratio of the switch network,
<v2>/<v1>.
(c) Find the average current conversion ratio of the switch network,
<i2>/<i1>.
(d) Construct averaged circuit model of the boost converter by replacement
of the switch network by the averaged switch model (dependent sources)
based on the equations (b) and (c).

3. Buck-boost converter Problem
In the buck-boost converter of Figure Q3, terminals voltage and current of
the switch network are given as v1, v2, i1 and i2. The capacitor, C, is sufficiently
large so that the output voltage, Vo, is constant. The converter operates in
CCM with inductor current repeatedly changes between iLmin and iLmax in
steady state.

quantities.
(b) Find the average voltage conversion ratio of the switch network,
<v2>/<v1>.
(c) Find the average current conversion ratio of the switch network,
<i2>/<i1>.
(d) Construct averaged circuit model of the buck-boost converter by
replacement of the switch network by the averaged switch model
(dependent sources) based on equations (b) and (c).
