Why MBA /Why MBA at ISB

Having worked for two years, I consider I am at a critical juncture of my


professional life, wherein Ive identified with a role I have an active interest in,
and reasonably believe that I have displayed an aptitude for in my current role. I
strongly believe that MBA at ISB would help me break into my target sector. Two
reasons; First, the academic part of the programme, the much more practically
designed, specialized concentrations, much more than the theoretical basics I
studied at an undergrad level or what I would learn in a Masters course.
Secondly, the opportunities, networking, and exposure Id get doing a
management course would be unparalleled. At this stage of my career, an MBA
would help me build, improve, and modify both my hard and soft skills that Id
require to break into my desired field and excel at it. These educational credentials
would not only send a signal about my ability to prospective employers, but an ISB MBA would
also connect me with these employers in the first place.
Why ISB
In light of what I want out of an MBA/Management course and the kind of
atmosphere Im looking for, ISB is the college to aim for. The programme at ISB is
one of the best in the world, and I would want nothing less than that for myself.
The pedagogy and the faculty is one of a kind in the country, with the
coursework imparting both global and India-centric knowledge, and the teaching
methods from colleges around the world. The diverse peer group would in itself
be a learning experience. The kind of liberty the programme would allow me, to
configure my personal and professional development and reach my goals, is
what makes ISB my target college. The bottom-line being, my return on
investment, whether it is financially in terms of capital and time, or in terms of all
round personal development, would be the greatest at ISB.
And these perceptions and expectations I have of ISB does not come solely from
third party feedback from websites or business magazines or global rankings, but
from personal feedback from people I personally know who have passed out or
studied at ISB.
Personally, my biggest accomplishment so far in my personal and professional
life, has been setting up and running the quiz society at my college. Quizzing is
something I'm very passionate about. When I started college at Sri Venkateswara
College, the college didn't have a dedicated society/group for like-minded people
to interact, develop, and become better at their interest. I took it upon myself,
and with some help, I founded my quizzing society and headed it for two years. I
believe it to be the most significant accomplishment because of the kind of
people I've met and seen their transformation, and the kind of achievements we
as a group achieved. The society continues to this date, and is one of the Top 5
society in the University quizzing circuit,
Explain your goals

I work within the Money Managers group of Capital IQ, within the Investment Firm Profiling subgroup. My day-to-day work involves creating value added research on traditional investment
managers and hedge fund managers. This involves their profile, investment vehicles, style,
strategies, etc. Im involved in multiple sub-processes within the team (Profiling/Alerts/WebCrawler
Updation). Along with that, I'm also involved in various tasks and projects. These projects include
analysing and improving process workflows, testing enhancements, acting on direct client
requests, and acting as a backup resource for any requirement.

Projects
Cases left in-process for days while awaiting internal duplicate consolidation checks
Reviewed the teams current submission process of duplicates cases and the time taken for
internal consolidation, presented findings to Team Leader with suggestions as for where the team
could reduce false positives and bypass internal checks. Resulted in modified guidelines for
duplicate submissions.

Non-US funds- New workflow issues and suggestion


The only junior Researcher from the team working with the Team Lead and two Senior Researchers
and involved in discussion of a new proposed guidelines around Non-US Funds, and was
responsible for feedback regarding implementation of those guidelines, in terms of its feasibility
and efficiency
Fresh guidelines of profiling and tracking Non-US funds floated for discussion within the team,
among Team lead and two senior researchers. I was the only junior researcher involved in
discussion of proposed guidelines, and was responsible for feedback regarding implementation of
those guidelines, in terms of its feasibility and efficiency.

testing macros, updates

The most important situation where I demonstrated leadership skills in my


career was during a project which concerned analysis and comparison of
our platform, with the platforms of our competitors and associates. What
was expected of me and two more researchers who were co-assigned the
project was to review research data points, figure out a way to depict that
comparison, and complete it within a very tight deadline. While this was a
collaborative project with two other researchers who had the same
background and experience as I did, I took point duty with respect to
coordination and communication of the project, while also suggesting new
enhancements. I identify this as my most significant professional
achievement for multiple reasons. First, it helped me to identify my core
strength at my workplace, which was observing and improving workflows.
Since then Ive been assigned other solo projects, which revolved around
these core areas, and was recognized as the person who gets the task
done. Secondly, it offered me an opportunity to display teamwork and
leadership potential at a very nascent stage of my career.
My first approach towards the project was picking up cases of differing line
of businesses across different geographies, identifying critical data points
that were of highest relevance to clients, while performing external
research to corroborate and verify the existing data points on each of the
three platforms. While this was a collaborative project with two other
researchers who had the same background and experience as I did, I took
point duty with respect to coordinating the task and communicating the
progress of the project with our manager. Through the course of the
project, I identifying potential issues with the pre-designated approach,
and suggested improvements which were later approved. I was also
trouble-shooting issues faced by my co-researchers, helping them with
turnarounds and alternatives with respect to their portion of the project.
The project was later completed well within the deadline.
I identify this as my most significant professional achievement for multiple
reasons. First, it helped me to identify my core strength at my workplace,
which was observing and improving workflows. Since then Ive been
assigned other solo projects, which revolved around these core areas, and
was recognized as the person who gets the task done. Secondly, it offered
me an opportunity to display teamwork and leadership potential at a very
nascent stage of my career. Finally, I appreciated the positive feedback
from my senior manager, who had earlier expressed uncertainty
