GAP DESCRIPTION
With each defense, front seven personnel will be responsible for specific offensive gap
responsibilities. Gaps are coded as follows:
Solid “A” - From center’s nose to nose of.solid guard
Solid “B” - From solid guard's nose to nose of solid tackle
Solid “C" - From solid tackle’s nose to nose of TE ("Y”)
Solid “D" - From nose OF TE (“Y") OUT
Flex “A” - From center's nose to nose of flex guard
Flex “B" - From flex guard's nose to nose of flex tackle
Flex “C" - From flex tackle's nose to nose of TX
Flex “D” - From nose of TX out

TERMINOLOGY
Defender will split the difference between the aa
tackle and the #2 receiver.
An offensive formation set in which 3 wide receivers can
threaten the seams (seam alert).
Quarters technique.
Defensive backs play man to man and the linebackers play 3
vs. 2.
Half field technique on the side of the slot (includes SAM,
MIKE, and Deep Defender),
Corner technique, cornerback plays man to man on réceiver
in his zone.
Play zone principies vs: short splits.
Read #2 receiver; play quarters unless #2 breaks flat 5 yards
or less (linebacker plays the triangle if #2 is split). }
Defensive back assumes the role of the linebacker in palms.

NOSE, END, and MIKE widens to the boss call. SAM
adjusts out.
A call for the WILL linebacker to the TACKLE that tells the
TACKLE to play a 2 technique.
A call that tells the pass defenders to flop the coverage on

regardless of motion.
Safety and linebacker exchange man to man responsibility.
