Due to the enclosure of slipring assembly with a cover in protection type IP 55, the
necessary maintenance is very small.
A visual checking of slipring assembly should be made in intervals of approx. 6
months, depending on surrounding influences and loading.
Following points have to be observed:
Attention:
1.
The complete slipring assembly including brush holder and insulating material
has to be dry, dustless and free of grease. The abrasion from the contact
carbons has to be carefully removed. Oxidised points at running surface have to
be smoothened with fine emery cloth.
2.
The joint arms of the brush holders have to be checked by lifting on a smooth
running and on contact force. Heavy running brush holders as well as brush
holders with too small contact force have to be replaced by new ones. It has to
be checked whether all brush holders are centrally straightened to the sliprings.
Attention:
The joints of brush holders resp. the ring surfaces never must be
greased or oiled!
3.
Heavily worn out contact carbons and carbons with burnt spots have to be
replaced by new carbons in time. The contact carbons may wear out up to max.
1/3 of the original length.
In case new contact carbons are necessary, it is important that both carbons of
the brush holder have to be replaced; only contact carbons from the same
manufacturer have to be used. Life time of carbons is depending on operating
time and on speed of slipring assembly, so it is impossible to state exact
changing intervals.
New contact carbons have to be grinded-in to the ring radius in order to achieve
a large contact surface. This is made by placing the emery cloth on the ring
surface, now this emery cloth has to be moved to and for several times in order
to grind the radius of ring into the carbon.
The arising dust has to be removed.
4.
Check the tight fit of connection cable at ring and at the brush holders. If
necessary, bolts have to be re-tightened.

6.
Check the shaft blind flange, the cable screw joint and the profile rubber
sealing of slipring assembly housing on its packing. Defective parts have to be
replaced immediately in order to avoid coming-in of moisture.
