HUNTERS SHUT DOWN GIANTS,

SACK ASOTASI 10 TIMES
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------Newcastle,NSW | The Newcastle Hunters were back to their
defensive best as they shut down the Gold Coast Giants 17-4. The
Giants gained just 63 yards on the ground and only 85 more via
the air with Luke Asotasi biting the dust 10 times. Pass rush
specialist Rea Coster had a career day with 4 sacks himself whilst 5
others shared the spoils. We played hard today. We kept coming
and they could not win the battle of the line said Laurie Frier.
The Gold Coast were coming off 4 straight wins but by
not keeping a clean pocket Asotasi could not pick apart the very
good Newcastle secondary. There was nothing today. No time.
Credit to them they are a great D said Asotasi. Last week the
Giants found plenty of room for Fullback Kane Dunn but today he
could manage just 3 catches for 13 yards. We are able to man up
on them thanks to not throwing a whole lot of blitzes at them said
Frier. That means they did not have a free outlet like last week.
Newcastle did not exactly roll down the field on offense
either. However a fumble by Dunn opened the door and Luke
Ogden found his Fulback Peter Paea in the end zone for the only
score of the first half.
The Hunters came out supercharged in the second half
and after starting with good field position Ogden quickly put his
Tight End David Ingram away from 16 yards out. The 14-0 lead was
already seeming insurmountable.
The Giants did kick a field goal but that was all they
could muster. Henerai Lowe capped off the scoring late in the
game with a 20 yarder himself. Newcastle were back on track and
now at 4-4 have everything to play for. If the defence can play as
strong as this and the offense not turn the ball over then they have
every chance to make it back to the play offs this season.
