and record the number of times each letter occurs in the box next to the letter

then add the number of times the letters in each column recur for example in column 1
(numerical value 1) you have A twice, J no times and S once so a value of three , multiply
that by one to get a total of 3 (three ones)
do that for column 2 , there are no B’s no K’s and one T so there is a value of one there,
multiply it by two and you get a total of 2 (one two)
do that for column 3 , no C’s, one L , no U’s so a value of one, multiply that by three , total
of three
now you need to get a single figure so to get this you add 3+4=7 7 is then the number for
the whole name Alan Smith
You can look at just the first name Alan which gives you A=1 + L=3 + A=1 + N=5 =total 10
add the 1 and the 0 together and that gives you 1 which is the number for Alan
Consider the Magician card in the tarot at this point, its number is 1, and its ,for want of a
better word, “properties.” Also consider the number one and your perceptions of it. If you
look back to the chart you will see Alan has more of the number 1 in his chart than any-
thing else (this wont be the case possibly for another name).
Alan’s surname would be worked out the same way, the interesting thing with surnames is
that they are lost /gained/changed in marriage. It can be an interesting exercise to look at
the values for a pre and post marriage name as a whole. Some names have almost better
energy for an individual than others.
You can look at abbreviations of your name and their values too, also maybe times in your
life where you decided to use an abbreviation or the full version or even swap to a middle
name or adopt a name. Consider as well confirmation names, nicknames, different spell-
ings of names.
Also as an aside (at least for now) look at the number of times a particular number comes
up for you. Alan Smith has more number ones than anything else and no sixes or sevens
in his name.

Birth Number
to work out Alan’s birth number is slightly simpler than the name we just add the digits
across then separate the result into two single numbers that we can then add together to
get another single number.
0+1+1+2+1+9+6+5= 25
so 2+5=7
It is interesting that at this point we get a seven that was one of the missing numbers in the
his name.
Perhaps more importantly what is the significance of six that is missing ??? We can’t really
apply this purposefully to the hypothetical Alan because we know nothing about him but it
can be applied to other individuals or a house name for example.

..if you had a very long name with lots of middle names and a double barrel surname you
might end up with a three digit number , again break that down so that it would add to
make a single digit
for example you got 189 1+8+9=18 then breaks down to 1+8=9
Then look at your birthday date and add that across breaking all numbers into single digits
then get the final figure and split it into two and add that

Now consider how many times each number has recurred for you and do a tally of each
If you have numbers/cards that are missing for you look at those and consider how they
may apply to you or in fact not apply but be something you might be seeking to include in
your life or alternately really don’t want.
If you are heavily weighted in one or two numbers/cards look at those too and consider
how these apply to you and your circumstances.

You might want to make a further table and break down the numbers further into positive
and negative qualities but watch that you are not being over judgmental in doing this.
Addendum
Now just to confuse things (or maybe not) a small addendum , this is perhaps more appli-
cable in tarot ...the number 10 is obviously still there in the tarot as well as the one or ace,
ten can be seen as the end of one cycle and the start of another ...it still of course breaks
down to the 1 which is the magician who makes things manifest
There is also something often mentioned in numerology which is master numbers , the two
main ones are eleven and twenty two , it is worth watching out for these occuring in your
calculations , to put it in simple terms the eleven can be seen as a higher octave of the two
or high priestess where they are perhaps working at a very high level with spiritual ener-
gies, it may also appear in the numbers of someone who is struggling and can indicate the
need for paying greater attention to the spiritual dimension.

out the boredom that can be sometimes attached to the four
