16. String AO holds a smooth sphere on an inclined plane ABC, as shown in figure below. The
weight of the sphere is 1000N, and the plane is smooth. Calculate the tension in the string and
the reaction at the point of contact B.

17. An unknown force P keeps the four coplanar concurrent forces in equilibrium shown below.
Find the force P and its direction?

18. Two rollers, each of weight 50N and of radius 10cm rest in a horizontal channel of width 36cm as
shown below. Find the reaction on the point of contacts A, B and C.

19. The tension in cables AB and AC are 100N and 120N respectively as shown in figure below.
Determine the magnitude of the resultant force acting at A.

21. Calculate the centroid of the lamina of the plate shown in figure with respect to the axis XY.
Thickness of the plate is 5mm and density of the material is 6500Kg/m3.

22. A stone is dropped into a well and the sound of the splash is heard in 6 seconds. If the velocity
of sound is 160m/s, find the depth up to water level in the well. Take g = 9.8m/s2.

23. A particle is projected with an initial velocity of 12m/s at an angle with the horizontal. After
some time the position of the particle is observed by its x and y distances of 6m and 4m
respectively from the point of projection. Find the angle of projection.
24. The mean diameter of a whitworth bolt having V threads is 25mm. The pitch of the thread is
5mm and the angle of V is 55 0. The bolt is tightened by screwing a nut whose mean radius of
the bearing surface is 25mm. If the coefficient of friction for nut and bolt is 0.1 and for nut and
bearing surface is 0.16, find the force required at the end of a spanner 0.5m long when the load
on the bolt is 10kN.

25. An electric motor driven power screw moves a nut in a horizontal plane against a force of 75kN
at a speed of 300mm/min. The screw has a single square thread of 6mm pitch on a major
diameter of 40mm. The coefficient of friction at the screw threads is 0.1. Estimate Power of the
motor.
