Subject : Room Reservation
I need a single room with a queen-sized bed for four nights, from April 14
until April 17. Do you have a room available then? I will be attending a
conference at the Convention Center and I understand that your hotel is just
two blocks from there. Please confirm this for me as I dont want to have to
walk far or deal with cabs. Also, do you have a pool and a weight room? Is
there a restaurant located in or near the hotel?
Thank you for your help.

We do have the type of room that you want. It costs Rp 1,100,000 per night.
However, for the first night of your stay only, I will have to give you a kingsized bed as there are no queens available that night. It costs an extra Rp

Re : Where to hold the meeting
Antoni,
We need to find a place for our meeting Wednesday. If the conference room
53 available, we could have it there. Unfortunately Dani reserved it for a
small workshop. If I were running a workshop with only five people I would
switch it to the lounge. However, I already talked to Dani and he doesnt

want to relocate. He says the conference room is more suitable for his roleplaying activities.
Dina Safiras office is very big. If I 54 friendlier with her, I would ask to use it.
You know her, dont you? Why dont you ask her? If I 55 I would offer her a
free lunch or something for doing it.
Thanks,
Nova

Questions 5 11 are based on the following text.

The White Butterfl yAn old man named Takahama lived in a little house behind the cemetery of
the templeof Sozanji. He was extremely friendly and generally liked by his neighbours, though
most of them considered him a little mad. That was because he was very old but he did not want
to get married. He did not have the desire for intimate relationship with women. One summer day
he became very ill, so ill, in fact, that he sent for his sister-in-law and her son. They both came
and did all they could to bring comfort during his last hours. While Takahama fell asleep, they
watched a large white butterfl y fl ew into the room and rested on the old mans pillow. The
young man tried to drive it away with a fan; but it came back three times, as if it was very loath
to leave the sufferer. At last Takahamas nephew chased it out into the garden, through the gate,
and into thecemetery beyond, where it lingered over a womans tomb, and then mysteriously
disappeared. On examining the tomb the young man found the name Akiko written upon it,
together with a description narrating how Akiko died when she was eighteen. Though the tomb
was covered with moss and must have been erected fi fty years previously, the boy saw that it
was surrounded with fl owers, and that the little water tank had been recently fi lled. When the
young man returned to the house he found that Takahama had passed away, and he returned to his
mother and told her what he had seen in the cemetery.Akiko? murmured his mother. When
your uncle was young he was betrothed to Akiko. She died shortly before her wedding day. When
Akiko left this world your uncle resolved never to marry, and to live ever near her grave. For all
these years he has remained faithful to his vow, and kept in his heart all the sweet memories of
his one and only love. Every day Takahama went to the cemetery, whether the air was fragrant
with summer breeze or thick with falling snow. Every day he went to her grave and prayed for
her happiness, swept the tomb and set fl owers there. When Takahama was dying, and he could
no longer perform his loving task, Akiko came for him. That white butterfl y was her sweet and
loving soul.

INGGRIS- set 2
Mr. Pomat, a Malupit shop owner, called a meeting to find out the views of the community on
local government plants to close the Malupit Community School at the end of the present school
year.
Mr. Pomat acted as chairman of the meeting. He introduced Mr. K.Kazarin, the planning Officer
of the Raval Education Department. Mr. Kazarin pointed out that there were now only fifty-three
children at Malupit Community School. This was considered too high a number for one class
under one teacher; and too low a number for the forming of two classes and the employment of
two teacher. Mrs. Luvako, who had taught at the school for the past twenty-two years, would be
retiring from the teaching service in July. The Planning Office wished to take this opportunity to
close the school, because it is expensive to run, and to move the children to two bigger schools in
Raval, six miles away
Mrs. Jarvis, the mother of an eight-year-old boy at Malupi, asked what would happen about
transport to Raval. Mr.Kazarin replied that the children would travel by bus. This would be
provided by the Raval Transport Department, and it would take Malupit children to and from
school free of charge
Another parent, Mr.H.Wiley, expressed the fear of many parent that closing the local school
would mean that the children of Malupit would not grow up with the same sense of community
as in the past. They would feel lost in the much larger schools in Raval.
Mr. Kazarin replied that the Raval school were not very large, and that in any case, the children

would have to go to Raval later for education at high-school level.

The chairman voiced the view of the meeting when he said that there was good reason to believe
that there would soon be more young children living in Malupit.
It would be foolish, he said, to close the school, and then to find that there were more than
enough local children to form two classes and employ two teachers.
A final point was made by Mr.Colmar, a retired businessman, that without Malupit Community
School, there would be nowhere big enough for local clubs an organizations to hold their
meetings.
Mr.Pomat brought the meeting to a close shortly after 9 0clock.

Making an Omelet
This is the way an omelet should be made. It

is important that the frying-pan should be

proportionate to the number of eggs; in other
word, to the size of the omelet. The frying- pan must be made of iron not of aluminum,
tin or enamel. And here I fell I must stress a
point, essential to what might be called the
background of omelet-making, namely that
the frying-pan must never be washed with
water but rubbed, when hot, with salt and
tissue paper, as this is the only way to prevent
sticking.
For three papers, we take six eggs, break them
into a bowl, season them with salt and freshly
ground pepper, and add a good teaspoonful of
water. We beat this lightly with a fork or the
wire-broom, not the whisk, until large bubbles
from on the top. This takes half a minute; it is
fatal to beat too long. Meanwhile, our frying- pan is getting heat, not too hot, and we drop
in an ounce and a half of butter and best lard,
over quick flame for a minute or two, until it
gives no more froth and has turned light
golden. We give our egg-mixture another stir
and pour it into the fat, letting it spread evenly
over the frying-pan.

All this is a swift business, and we may well

feel a few extra hearts-beats and a little
breathlessness at that moment. The flame is
now turned down a little. With a fork or
palette-knife (a fork seems to work
particularly well) we loosen the edges of the
omelet all round and, once or twice, in the
middle, letting the liquid flow into the empty
spaces, taking care always to move towards
the middle.
This takes about two minutes. Then, keeping
as calm as we possibly can, we fold it. This is
easiest if we fold over and pin down with two
or three fork-pricks about an inch and-a-half
of the omelet along one side. Then it is quite
easy to roll it into shape. Our omelet should
be golden brown outside and wet inside:
because, as is the classical French term. It is
then slid on to a hot plate and its surface made
shiny with a little butter. This last touch
makes all the difference.
