CaseID: T06-0301 Version: Basic

Item: T06 RRM & RTT Algorithm

Subitem: T06-03AQM
Name:AQM

Objective
The active queue management (AQM) function is used to improve user experience during multipath
downloading. AQM is introduced to optimize the TCP function. It actively adjusts the buffer queue based
on the UE data rate, reducing the transmission delay.
This test case aims to verify that the AQM function maintains a relatively short queue in the TCP
buffer.

Network Diagram
For the network diagram, see "Basic Network of Acceptance" in Test Network Preparation Guide.
This test case involves the following elements: EPC, eNodeB 1, cell 1, and UE 1.

Prerequisites
1. Click Application Panel in the upper left corner in the main window of the M2000 client. In the
displayed dialog box, click the Application Center tab.
2. The status of the eNodeB is normal. The status can be checked by double-clicking Topo View on the
M2000.
3. The following tasks have been created on the M2000:
1>. S1 interface tracing (by double-clicking Trace and Maintenance, then choosing Signaling Trace >
Signaling Trace Management > S1 Interface Trace)
2>. A general throughput monitoring (by double-clicking Trace and Maintenance, then choosing
Signaling Trace > Signaling Trace Management > Cell Performance Monitoring > General Throughput
Monitoring)
4. The cell is activated.
5. The uplink and downlink aggregate maximum bit rates (AMBRs) of UE 1 are set to 10 Mbit/s on the
EPC.
6. The eNodeB license supports the AQM function.
7. An FTP server is in the normal state and ready for the test. Test tools, such as DOS, are ready.
8. The delay that a UE receives a ping packet from the FTP server exceeds 500 ms, indicating that the
Uu interface is congested. The test on AQM gain can be performed.

Procedure

Expected Result

1. On the M2000, check the AQM switch by running

the following command:
LST CELLALGOSWITCH:LOCALCELLID=0;
1>. If AqmAlgoSwitch is set to Off, go to step 3.
2>. If AqmAlgoSwitch is set to On, go to step 2.

The command output is similar to the following:

--------------------------start-------------------------%%/*31181*/LST
CELLALGOSWITCH:LOCALCELLID=0;%%
RETCODE = 0 Operation succeeded.
List Cell Algorithm Switch Configuration
---------------------------------------Local cell ID = 0
...
AQM algorithm switch = AqmAlgoSwitch:Off

...
(Number of results = 1)
------------------------end----------------------2. Turn off the AQM switch by running the following
command:
The command output is as follows:
MOD CELLALGOSWITCH: LocalCellId=0,
Operation succeeded.
AqmAlgoSwitch=AqmAlgoSwitch-0;
3. Power on the UE, and enable it to initiate an
attach procedure.

In the S1 interface tracing result, the

S1AP_INITIAL_CONTEXT_SETUP_RSP and
S1AP_UL_NAS_TRANS messages appear,
indicating that the attach procedure is successful.

4. Enable the UE to download a 100 MB file first.

During downloading the 100 MB file, download a
50 KB file from the FTP server for nine times.
Then, power off the UE.

The FTP download functions properly. Record the

downloading time for the 50 KB file each time, and
calculate the average downloading time as value 1.

5. Turn on the AQM switch by running the following

command:
The command output is as follows:
MOD CELLALGOSWITCH: LocalCellId=0,
Operation succeeded.
AqmAlgoSwitch=AqmAlgoSwitch-1;
6. Power on the UE, and enable it to initiate an
attach procedure.

In the S1 interface tracing result, the

S1AP_INITIAL_CONTEXT_SETUP_RSP and
S1AP_UL_NAS_TRANS messages appear,
indicating that the attach procedure is successful.

7. Enable the UE to download a 100 MB file first.

During downloading the 100 MB file, download a
50 KB file from the FTP server for nine times.
Then, power off the UE.

The FTP download functions properly. Record the

downloading time for the 50 KB file each time, and
calculate the average downloading time as value 2.

8. Compare value 1 and value 2.

Value 2 is smaller than value 1, indicating that the

duration for downloading small files while
downloading big files is shorter with enabled AQM
than that with disabled AQM. The test is
successful.

9. Restore the configuration based on values

queried in step 1 by running the following
command:
MOD CELLALGOSWITCH

The command output is as follows:

Operation succeeded.
