My Ten Chosen Subjects: Action
My Ten Chosen Subjects: Action
My Ten Chosen Subjects: Action
Abstract
Abstract photography leaves more to the imagination and helps you concentrate on texture, form and colour
rather than the whole subject.
“This subject was chosen because this is an area that I do not feel totally comfortable with doing and will
challenge me. Also I feel that this subject will allow me to have some heavy image manipulation and editing
which I enjoy.”
Action
Action photography is all about timing. It’s about reacting. It’s about being in the right place at the right time
and it’s about executing the shot. Sport is a synonym of action.
“I think that this will be an interesting subject for me, I like and participate in some sports and have a love for
extreme sports photography, which will heavily influence my photos.”
Architecture
Architectural photography can be broadly considered to encompass views of the exteriors and interiors of
domestic, commercial, religious, institutional, and engineering structures, as well as records of the evolution of
towns and cities
“This subject has appealed to me because of the popularity of the subject as well as the great various shapes,
tones, colours and detail that can be incorporated in the individual photograph. In this I do feel that
architecture and abstract photographs can cross paths, I must have a clear distinction between the two
categories”
Candid
Candid photography is photography that focuses on spontaneity rather than technique, on the immersion of a
camera within events rather than focusing on setting up a staged situation or on preparing a lengthy camera
setup.
“I picked this subject one as I prefer to take the photograph instantly, if I see something that catches my eye
then it will be photographed. I prefer this method of photography rather than staging a scene.”

Flora
“Photographs within this section appeal to me in the sense that there will be lots of differing and various
colours and shapes within the photographs. It is probably one of the best times of the year to get photos of the
subject with plants and flowers.”
Fauna
“I have a great love for all living things and animals and this is a big reason for me choosing this category. I feel
that animals and all living things are great to photograph if done properly.”
Landscape
Landscape Photography is a subject that shows little or no human activity in their photos, using instead
subjects such as strongly defined landforms, weather, and ambient light. Despite this, there is no pure or
absolute definition of what makes a landscape in photography, as such it has become very broad term,
encompassing urban, industrial, macro and nature photography.
“For this one I want to have landscape photographs that are minimal and very different to each other, I want
the photos to have lots of atmosphere within them”
Night Light
Night photography refers to photographs taken outdoors between dusk and dawn. Night photographers
generally have a choice between using artificial light or using a long exposure, exposing the scene for seconds
or even minutes, in order to give the film enough time to capture a usable image.
“This subject appeals to me because of the great contrast of colors that can be in night time photographs,
especially with artificial light and neon light. This type of photography is something that I want to explore more
and attempt to take good photographs.”
Seaside
Seaside photography must represent the feeling of summer by the sea.
“For me this was an easy choice as I have lived on the south coast and in a seaside town for all my life. So for
me this one will represent were I am from and a specific location and hopefully can be seen in the photos.
Although I may not just gain the photographs from Portsmouth as there are many different locations close by
i.e. Brighton, Bournemouth that equally represents seaside towns if not more”

Water
“I feel that you are able to gain a lot from shooting water whether its still water of moving water. Reflections
can be picked up in lights or shapes as well as the texture of the water itself can create an interesting appeal.”
Now that I have selected the core subjects that I want to take photographs for I will heavily researching each individual
category.
Some of these subjects may cross over each other between two or more different subjects; if this does happen then I will
place the photograph within the category that is most fitting
