Community Update
Interior Health is pleased to announce that plans are
underway to increase primary care services at the Victorian Community Health Centre to seven days a week
(closed on statutory holidays).
The change, targeted for April 1, 2016, will allow residents who have challenges in making appointments during the week to access a physician for scheduled primary
care services on Saturday or Sunday. Some appointments
will be left open on each day to accommodate residents
who have non urgent, but unforeseen medical needs on
the weekend.
Interior Health is grateful for the support of Dr. IsabelleAnne Fontaine, Dr. Fen Smit and Dr. Shelina Musaji,
which is allowing us to move forward with this expansion
of primary care services.

Irene Theresa Prisciak (nee Olineck)

November 19, 1934- December 18, 2014
Our family grew up in the warm embrace of our mothers

continuous gift of unconditional love. Along with her
husband Paul, she raised the most beautiful and
incredibly talented children Adam (Sheryl), Shelley
(David) and Karen (Vern). With her unfailing belief in
our abilities, we pursued our dreams.
She mentored us in the importance of giving back to the
community through her volunteer work in gymnastics,
Brownies and Girl Guides, the Sexual Assault Centre and
her favourite and most recent work with the Mendel Art
Gallery in Saskatoon. She loved the outdoors and reveled
in shing, canoeing, trailering, cross country skiing and
walking in the woods at Anglin Lake. She was caring to
family and friends and friendly to total strangers she met
on her daily walks along the Meewasin Trail.
After Adam became somewhat independent she
returned to work in retail at Sears Canada.
After 56 years of marriage, Paul will miss his lifelong
golf partner and enthusiastic travel companion to British
Columbia, Quebec, Mexico, Slovakia and elsewhere.
The photos of these travels and family events were

plastered on Moms fridge. But the pride of her display
were the photos her grandchildren Marik (10) and Lucas
(7). Their accomplishments in school and sports were
unrelenting sources of conversation. They will grow up
hearing the whisper of her spirit in the trees around their
home in Nelson, BC.
Irene grew up on a farm near Calder, Saskatchewan.
She was predeceased by her parents, Katherine (Bobyk)
and John Olineck; and her brothers Bill (Anne), Peter
(Lydia) and Jim.
The telephones between her sisters Ann Olineck, Mary (Al)
Lutzko , Nettie (Murray) Ireland, and Alice Zubrecki will not
be humming quite as loudly with her passing. She also
leaves her youngest brother Arnold (Jeanette) Olineck.
Throughout her three and a half year cancer journey,
Mom was compassionately supported by her oncology
team Dr. Sami and Nurse Janice Belous, and later
by the palliative care team at St. Pauls Hospital her
amazon girls.
We miss you, Mom.

Meet Phil and his brother Tommy! They are neutered male
Flemish giant/lionhead rabbits, just over 10 months old.
Their favourite activities include munching on hay, chewing
on applewood sticks, playing with each other and cuddling.
Both are friendly & adventurous and will often hop up to say
hello to visitors. Tommy has long tufts of wispy fur around his
ears making him look like a lion and Phil has very soft white
and silky fur. While they enjoy each others company, they
would also do well on their own with lots of supplemental

An Invasive Stocking Stuffer

For The Little Environmentalist!
Aliens Among Us, a book that will open your childrens
eyes. Looking for the perfect gift that will inspire the next
generation of environmentalists? Kids can unwrap the
book Aliens Among Us by Alex Van Tol under the tree this
year and be alerted to what impacts invasive species have.
There are over 4000 alien species that have made it to BC
most likely by a human pathway. The book highlights 50
different plants and animals from all areas in BC, from the
cute and cuddly to the strange and prickly.
Aliens Among Us, a Royal BC Museum exhibit that
highlighted non-native species in BC has now inspired
their first ever childrens book. The book explains how the
invaders got to BC and what effects they are having on the
environment.
An invasive species is one that has a steady march forward and it kind of chews through everything in its path
states Val Tol. I went with the [species] readers would be
most interested in, the ones that are more familiar to kids,
but I also wanted to showcase the ones that were the most
destructive, Van Tol said.
We cant wait to get our hands on a copy of Aliens Among
Us, we want to share the book with the next generation so
they will be equipped with the tools to stop the spread of
alien species. The book can be used in conjunction with
the Alien Among Us website to track the new animal and
plant arrivals, meet the ones that are already here or to ask
an expert any questions you have.
