Davidson, Group Event Director of the dmg events hospitality portfolio including The
Hotel Show. Rooms are now automated to the point where everything can be
controlled from heating to lights to curtains, unique experiences include 3D cinema
screens or waterproof LED TVs in bedroom and bathroom mirrors, customised

Davidson continued: The increasing importance of tech to hoteliers and
restaurateurs reflects directly on the event floor at The Hotel Show this year as we
introduce our first Technology and Security Summit, TecSec 2015, featuring major
brands such as Google, NEC and Cisco. We have also seen the number of
technology and security exhibitors at the event increase from 45 in 2012 to over 120

PRESS RELEASE Dubai, UAE, 22nd September 2015: Experts from the hospitality
industry including Chefs from top hotel brands and leading developers will discuss
the future of dining in Dubai and the wider MENA region during a special F&B
themed day of talks on day two of the Vision Conference, part of 16 th annual The
Hotel Show Dubai, on 29thSeptember 2015.
The day is set to start with Dubai-based master developer Nakheel, The Hotel Show
Dubais Retail and Hospitality Partner for 2015, providing a keynote on Shaping the
face of the Retail and Hospitality landscape in Dubai. Sanjay Manchanda, CEO,
Nakheel said: As one of the worlds leading developers, Nakheel continues to
deliver a wide range of projects that are fully aligned with the Government of Dubais
vision for 2021. Our growing range of retail and hospitality developments is set to
provide new destinations for Dubais tourists and residents while offering extensive
opportunities for new hospitality and F&B concepts.
Nakheel has a wide range of new retail and hospitality concepts underway at various
locations across the city including The Pointe at Palm Jumeirah. Currently under
construction, this unique development is set to bring Palm Jumeirah alive with
spectacular fountain shows, a beautiful promenade and a huge variety of waterfront
spots for dining, shopping and socialising.
Christine Davidson, Group Event Director of the dmg events hospitality portfolio
including The Hotel Show said: F&B has always been a key driver in hotel revenues
and guest attraction, and is always a key discussion point at The Hotel Show Dubai.
With significant retail, hotel and leisure development across the whole region, the
range and quality of F&B offers is growing at a pace.
Avinash Mohan, Executive Chef at The Address Dubai Marina, taking part in The
Chefs debate said: Emerging F&B trends coming to Dubai include: healthcare to
come in joint venture with the food industry in an innovative manner; restaurant
themes revolving around more interactive cooking; interactive menus and a shift in
giving experiences to engage as many senses as possible; and impossible food
such as meats and cheeses made entirely from plants. Girish Babu, Executive Chef
at the Media One Hotel in Dubai added: Generation Y is the new customer base for
restaurants. In character they are social, want value for money, like social or
communal eating, have high drive in exploring new concepts, and prefer healthy
options. However, their priority is fast and tasty rather than quality. As a result,
restaurant themes are evolving to become fast and casual with a focus on value for
money, simple service and friendly staff.
He continued: Emerging trends in Dubai restaurants and menus include sharing
options, the modernization of older classics, street food, and other cuisine from
Africa, Cuba, the West Indies and Asia, where fried grass hoppers and wasp is
popular. With emerging market conditions and supply becoming stronger in Asia, this
scene will become more apparent and soon. Other trends in cuisine include the
consumption of more green vegetables and healthier food, infused teas, smoked
foods and earth, raw food or super food.
Other sessions include New F&B projects, new territories and pioneering concepts.
Speaker Waqar Ahmed Mirza, International Commercial Director of McQueens
Group, a British culinary institution with a school in Dubai, said: Dubai is seeing
increases in wealth and a rise in expats from all over the world. This is resulting in
more demand for foreign food brands, while basic mass foods such as burgers,
pizzas and chicken are moving up into the luxury bracket. The future is slice, dice
and rise. Omar El Meghawry, Deputy CEO of First Equity Partners, also contributing
to this panel added: The population in the MENA region has almost grown by 52%
since the 1990s and is expected to grow by 102% by the 2030s, and this fast
population growth is a major driver for the F&B sector. The food industry in the GCC
is a highly consolidated market with three top market players Almarai, Savola and
Kuwait Food Company (Americana). All segments of the food sector, except
livestock, are highly monopolistic.
Kai Schukowski, Hotel Manager, Kempinski Hotel Ajman commented: People are
hungry for a new approach and concept and are looking for variety and experiences
so theyre surprised during their meal. There is a trend in hoteliers, even in luxury
hotels, providing a more casual dining atmosphere and standalone restaurants, so
that restaurants are attractions of their own accord. Nicholas Couvaras, Managing
Director of KROMA added: We are definitely seeing an increase in the amount of
homegrown brands entering the market, bringing fresh and innovative concepts to
the UAE.
Tahir Shah, Founder of Moti Roti, the Dubai-based pop-up Pakistani Soul Kitchen
catering for the Generation Y consumer, will contribute to the panel on F&B brands,
concepts and opportunities, he said: Dubais emerging consumer is tired of airconditioned commercial enclosures, brand shopping and fine dining. They are
looking for real life, street life, culture. Restaurants now have to become social
spaces with great ambiences from design, to music, to staff. Street food has finally
caught up in this region, due to the popularity of food markets and festivals. Urban
and street themes including industrial-chic are big in caf and restaurant design and
giving customers a change from formal stuffy restaurants. Dubai's F&B scene has
the potential to be greatly developed by entrepreneurs who want to contribute
culture, which should be fostered. Collaboration is also hugely beneficial for the local
F&B economy, whether local suppliers, or restaurants who tag together to form
"super-groups" at festivals or group private catering.
Alongside the Vision Conference, The Hotel Show Dubai 2015 has a range of local
and international HORECA and food service exhibitors including Glee Hospitality
Solutions, Sara Hotel Supplies, Renarte Hospitality Supplies LLC, Dun Jardin a
PRESS RELEASE, Dubai, UAE; 17th September 2015: 16th annual The Hotel Show
Dubai, taking place 28-30th September at the Dubai World Trade Centre, is revealing
today a new Design Theatre for 2015, created by leading Italian designers WT
Studio, as some of the international experts it will host discuss the future of hotel
design in the Middle East and Africa with news and predictions of sci-fi features and
celebrity owners.
Issam Ezzeddine, Project Director and Design Architect at the National Engineering
Bureau will present on Sustainable town square in the UAE on day one of the
Design Theatre on Monday 28th September. He said: Architects and experts in the
design industry sector are working hard to come up with innovative aspects that
shape the future of architecture. The future is closer than you might think current
projects are already answering the imagined needs and desires of the next
generation. While much remains to be done, the young population and significant
capital resources of the MENA states are key advantages. Hotels are scrambling to
anticipate travelers future needs, and some changes already taking effect can help
us get glimpse of whats to come: bathrooms will get bigger; guest rooms will get
smaller; air-conditioning will be controlled via mobile phones; rooms will be equipped
with high-tech LED and other lighting features; rooms will have minimalist design and
open shelving; and there will be more local flavor.
He continued: Lobbies will become high-tech multi-use spaces and overall, hotels
will integrate high-tech amenities that border on sci-fi. Hotels are literally looking to
science fiction to gain an edge on competitors, launching futuristic amenities like
robot butlers (the Botlr, currently only at the Aloft Cupertino and Aloft Silicon Valley),
robot luggage handlers (the Yobot at New Yorks Yotel), virtual reality experience
(WXYZ bars at Aloft Hotels), fingerprint scan room entry (at the Alma Barcelona),
retina scan room entry (at the Nine Zero Hotel in Boston) and finally, infrared body
scanners (at Seattles Hotel 1000). Dubai is still to catch on, but given its tendency to
take themes from the worlds best and create them into something uniquely
impressive, we can anticipate an interesting, high-tech future.
An example of a futuristic hotel design coming to Dubai is the much-anticipated ME
Dubai Hotel designed by award-winning architect Zaha Hadid. Melia Hotels
International is set to discuss the project, due to open in the US $400 million Opus
development in Business Bay in 2016, in more detail at The Hotel Shows 2015
Vision Conference as part of the MEGA Projects An Inside View panel on
28th September. This is the first hotel designed by Iraq-British architect Hadid, famed
for being the first woman to receive the prestigious Pritzker Architecture Prize and for
her distinctive, neo-futuristic buildings. Gabriel Escarrer, Vice Chairman and CEO of
Melia Hotels International recently described ME by Meli as a new-generation hotel
brand and the architecture of the ME Dubai Hotel, which features innovative style
with metallic finishings as jaw-dropping.
Italian architect Simone Micheli, with studios based in Florence, Milan, Dubai and
Rabat, renowned for futuristic hotel design, will present Hotel as Opera on day two
of the Design Theatre. He said: In Dubai, architecture and design is developing so
much, enriching the landscape with new forms, structures, ideas; giving birth to
extraordinary works when the desire of trying something new is associated with
smart research based on proper human needs. Architecture and design in the MENA

The TecSec Summit 2015 will take place over 3 days, 28-30th September at the
Dubai World Trade Centre, as a new feature of 16th annual The Hotel Show Dubai
NECs keynote speech Facial recognition, the answer to all your security
problems? reflects a trend in the uptake of facial recognition tech to provide
advanced security measures in hotels
Over 40 international experts including from Google, NEC, Sabre and Cisco will
discuss how new technology and security solutions are impacting the global
hospitality industry
PRESS RELEASE Dubai, UAE 7th September 2015: NEC, global leaders in
technology and pioneers of the most advanced facial recognition tech in the market
will open the first ever TecSec Summit at The Hotel Show Dubai 2015 on
28th September.
The long-standing Dubai event has introduced a new technology and security forum
in its 16th year as the global hospitality landscape is evolving to adapt with new
innovations. Christine Davidson, Group Event Director of the dmg events hospitality
portfolio including The Hotel Show commented: We have seen evidence that
hoteliers are investing considerably in technology. Gone are the days when providing
the ability to book online was enough. To capture guests, hoteliers now have to
provide unique offerings and experiences that utilise the latest technologies from 3D
cinema rooms to waterproof LED TVs in bathroom mirrors to multi-room surroundsound music. Evidence of enhanced guest security is another important factor now
that state-of-the-art fingerprint door locks, facial recognition technology, and other
new and impressive means of controlling an individuals safety are available on the
market.
NEC is the world-wide leader of facial recognition technology, where cameras are
installed throughout a property and used within hotels to recognise the faces of
guests, check registered guest information, identify guests and alert hotel staff of VIP
or undesirable visitors.
Kees Van Donk, Director of Hospitality EMEA at NEC will open TecSec 2015. He
said: In the Middle East and Africa, the use of Facial Recognition technology has
seen significant growth over the last two years particularly in Government sectors.
We foresee this rise will continue with neighboring industries in the regions private
sector including hospitality, airports, theme parks and other travel-related
businesses. This for both scenarios, white-listing, welcoming the VIP-guests, as well
as black-listing, keeping the bad guys out.
Hoteliers are now beginning to understand that although a safe environment for
guests should be a basic and given element and condition, situations can arise
which cannot be determined or pre-planned. The available face recognition
technology has now reached a level of maturity and accuracy that it can be used for
real life situations of varying levels of security threat, Van Donk continued.
Terrorism, theft, violence and other security threats cannot be ignored and can now
be monitored more closely and accurately. VIPs as well as undesirable guests
including wanted criminals can be detected as soon as they arrive on a hotel
property.
Further highlights of the TecSec 2015 programme include: on the security
front, How to minimise the risk of threats checking into your business presented by
Samer Abu Arisheh, Regional Security Account Manager at Cisco Security. On

interest from Turkish manufacturers looking to exhibit at the 16th annual event this
year, set to take place in Dubai in September.
The increase in representation of local Turkish manufacturers looking to showcase
their products to hoteliers and target distributers in Dubai is interesting and could be
encouraged by buoyant hotel construction in that country, said Christine Davidson,
Group Event Director of the dmg events hospitality portfolio including The Hotel
Show. It is clear that these suppliers have their eye firmly on expansion and
increasing exports and we are delighted to have such a strong contingency at the
show this year.
Turkey is now the 6th most visited country in the world with 41 million tourists in
2014, and its robust manufacturing industry including leather and textiles attracts a
significant amount of international business travel. In 2015, Starwood Hotels and
Resorts opened a new Sheraton hotel in Samsun, a city famed for its manufacturing
businesses as well as providing a major port to the Black Sea. Hilton is set to open
two properties in Eskisehir, another Turkish business centre.
The TOPHOTELPROJECTS report puts Turkey in 3rd place in the Middle East for
hotel construction, behind only the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Caroline List, International
Sales Manager at TOPHOTELPROJECTS commented: Turkey has emerged as a
leading tourist destination with a massive growth in hotel construction. Trends we
have witnessed for the Turkish market include recreational complexes, which can
also be used for day trips, as well as hotels with spa facilities. Hotel construction is
rife in Istanbul, which currently hosts over 800 properties and 50,000 rooms, but
there is a clear move towards the regional cities popular for manufacturing
companies including Samsun, Eskisehir, Ankara, and Izmir.
Over 30 Turkish manufacturers set to arrive in Dubai in September for The Hotel
Show include Elemegi Furniture & Design, an architectural company undertaking
turnkey hotel applications, design and restoration with the capacity of a 10,000sqm
production area, and high-profile clients including Rixos, Nobu and Burberry. Porland
Porselen, a leading Turkish porcelain manufacturer with production of approximately
70 million units per year. Dok-San, one of the largest home textiles manufacturers in
the country. Maya Tekstil, a bedding manufacturer producing over 3,000 pillows and
quilts daily. Hisar, cookware and accessories manufacturers, named one of the top
20 leading companies by IBMs Production Systems Catalog. Dressbest, a quality
uniforms manufacturer serving for hospitality, health and spa, airlines and
government entities, and Sandalyeci, furniture manufacturers who already have a
showroom in Dubai and have supplied to various hotels and restaurants after
exhibiting at The Hotel Show for 2 years.
Engin Ertekin, The Hotel Show Dubais Turkish representative based in Istanbul said:
Dubai, UAE and the entire Middle East are always target markets for Turkish
companies for all industries. There has been a continuous and significant increase in
the last few years in part due to the general economic stagnation in Europe which is
the number one region for Turkeys foreign trade. This is pushing Turkish exporters
to focus more on the Middle East and also to find new markets.

Dubai.
The 3-day conference features as part of industry-leading events The Hotel Show
and The Leisure Show, expected to welcome over 18,000 attendees to the DWTC
28-30 September 2015.
Philip Shepherd, Partner, PwC Middle East Hospitality & Leisure Leader, announced
as a speaker on the Mega Trends panel at the Vision Conference said: The UAE
already rivals world-leading tourism and leisure destination, Orlando, in the scale of
its transport links, hotels, F&B, and its central global location within 4 hours flight of 3
billion people, which is unrivalled. By 2021, the UAE will have developed the other
key enablers to become a world-class leisure and entertainment destination and
world-leading competitor.
We forecast that by 2021 the addressable UAE leisure market will have increased
by 70% on 2015 figures to 45 million people including 31 million international
tourists, with residents, their relatives and friends, a further 14 million, Shepherd
continued. While the UAE has many of the enablers in place or planned, ultimate
success will depend on co-ordination between the Emirates, hotels, transport
providers and the various UAE-wide attractions set to launch. If successful, UAE
attractions can achieve 18 million theme park visits alone by 2021, in comparison to
Singapores 6.7 million and Hong Kongs 15 million today.
In the UAE alone, leisure mega-attractions in the planning, construction and preopening stages include Dubai Parks and Resorts (2016), Guggenheim Museum Abu
Dhabi (2017) and Dream Island, Ras al Khaimah (2018).
Phil Taylor, Managing Director of Team Leisure LLC speaking on the topic of Dubai
theme parks: boom or bust?, explores the massive undertaking of 10 major theme
parks, 2 safari parks and 3 international museums being developed concurrently in
the UAE at present. He said: The UAE in particular is at an interesting point in its
development as a global tourism and leisure destination. Not content with what it has
achieved already, it has set itself an even more ambitious vision for the future. The
Vision Conference Dubai 2015 is an exciting opportunity for the leisure and
hospitality industry to consider the vital role they play in delivering this vision and
what lessons there are for the rest of the region.
The wealth of leisure development is matched by mass hotel construction to cater
for projected increases in tourist arrivals for 2020 and beyond, said Christine
Davidson, Group Event Director of the dmg events hospitality portfolio. The UAE is
currently leading the regions hotel construction with over 50,000 rooms in the
pipeline. Major hotel projects opening soon include the luxury St. Regis Dubai and
Bab al Qasr in Abu Dhabi. However, the most prominent hospitality trend emerging
from the Vision Conference programme for 2015 is the growth of mid-market hotel
options catered for families.
Daniel G. During, Principal and Managing Director of Thomas Klein International will
discuss the necessity to develop and grow the mid-range sector at the Vision
Conference. He said: My presentation will address the lack of budget resorts in the
Emirates. The growth of mid-market hotels is now essential to the success of the
UAEs tourism vision. With improved airport capacity and infrastructure, expanding
airline networks with a focus on low-cost carriers, emerging source markets in Africa
and Asia, and the addition of new family tourist attractions, there is huge demand for
affordable options. Operators across the region are now looking at how they can do
their part to attract new market segments, including younger families, millennials
travelling in smaller budgets and younger travellers in general who will be drawn by
the 2020 exhibition.
During continued: The UAE hospitality market remains near-saturated with luxury
resorts. With new mid-market and budget hotel options entering the market, the UAE
will be more likely to realise its vision to become a leading world destination by 2020
with a variety of attractions, F&B outlets and hotels to cater to a variety of
audiences.
Vision Conference Partner for 2015, Canon Middle East, joins the Sustainability for a
better tomorrow panel debate. Other topics to be discussed at the conference by a
host of industry experts include: Architecture of the future - how far can it go;
Investment in the Egyptian hospitality market; Chefs debate - trends and predictions;
and Dubai MEGA PROJECT - an inside look.
