    Alexei Leontiev was a Soviet and Russian psychologist born in 1936 in Moscow. He received his education at Moscow State University from 1953-1958 and went on to work at the Linguistic Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences from 1958 onward. Leontiev made significant contributions as a historian of science focusing on the works of Baudouin de Courtenay, Bernstein, Polivanov, Vygotsky, and his own father. He also worked in psycholinguistics, applied linguistics, psychology, and the development of an alternative education system in Russia called "School 2100". Following his death in 2004, several memorial conferences were held in his honor focusing on topics he studied such as rehabilitation psychology
