TENNESSEES RECORD ON

ABOUT MARSHALL
Thursdays contest marks the Thundering Herds
season-opener. They defeated Bluefield State 11278 in exhibition action before dropping their final
exhibition to Newberry, 101-89, on Sunday.
Marshall is entering its second season under head
coach Dan DAntoni, who is the older brother of
veteran NBA head coach Mike DAntoni. Dan was
an assistant on Mikes Suns, Knicks and Lakers
staffs from 2005-14.
The Thundering Herd posted an 11-21 (7-1 CUSA)
record last season and return four starters this
year.
The Conference USA coaches projected Marshall to
finish ninth in the 14-team league race this season.
MUs top returning player is junior forward Ryan
Taylor, who led the team in scoring (14.1 ppg) and
rebounding (8.6 rpg) while starting all 32 games a
year ago.
As the teams point forward, Taylor led Conference
USA last season with 14 double-doubles, including a
streak of seven-straight from Jan. 22 through Feb.
14. Last month, Taylor was named to the preseason
All-Conference USA Team by the leagues coaches.
Sophomore juco transfer Terrence Thompson
grabbed 17 rebounds and also added eight points in
Marshalls exhibition vs. Newberry on Sunday.
The Marshall roster features three international student-athletes, as Milan Mijovic and Aleksa Nikolic
both hail from Serbia, and Aleksander Dozic is from
Montenegro.
Former Duke All-American and NBA point guard
Chris Duhon is in his second season as an assistant
coach at Marshall. He was on Dukes 2001 National
Championship team.

REMARKABLE REBOUNDING EFFORT

Despite a significant size disadvantage at Georgia
Tech Monday, Tennessee managed to win the battle
of the boards 53-47.
The Volunteers rebounding effort against the Yellow Jackets included 24 offensive rebounds and 19
rebounds by perimeter players.
Tennessees 53 total rebounds were its most since
grabbing 53 during a four-overtime win at Texas
A&M on Feb. 23, 2013. And it was UTs highest rebounding total in a regulation game since Jan. 28,
2012, when the Vols pulled down 53 boards in a 6449 home win over Auburn (116 games had elapsed
between that contest and Mondays game at Tech).

R3 ON A ROLL
Junior wing Robert Hubbs III has scored 81 points
over Tennessees last six games, dating to last season (13.5 ppg).
Despite missing practice time this month with separate knee and groin injuries, the Newbern, Tennessee, native is leading the Vols in minutes played
(33.0 mpg) and ranks second on the team in scoring
(15.5 ppg).
In 66 minutes of action through two games, Hubbs
has just one turnover.

MOORE STILL STUFFING STAT SHEET

As he has throughout his Tennessee career, senior
Armani Moore continues to do a bit of everything
while hes on the court.
Through two games, Moore leads the Vols in assists
(3.5 apg), blocks (3.0 bpg) and steals (2.5 apg).
He is UTs second-leading rebounder (7.0 rpg) and
third leading scorer (14.55 ppg).
The 6-4 Moore owns 83 career blocks. He needs just
seven more blocks to move into a tie for 15th on
Tennessees all-time list.

GEORGIA TECH RECAP

Tennessees late charge wasnt enough as the Vols
lost at Georgia Tech, 69-67, on Monday night at McCamish Pavilion in Atlanta.
Georgia Techs 17-3 run in the second half proved to
be too much for the Vols to overcome, as Tennessee
had three chances in the final 80 seconds to tie or
take the lead. Devon Baulkmans 3-pointer was just
long as the buzzer sounded.
The Vols were led by Armani Moores 17 points.
Robert Hubbs III added 13 points, while Jabari McGhee had a career-high 10 points.
After grabbing only 33 rebounds in its opener, Tennessee corralled 53 boards, led by Derek Reeses
career-high-tying 10. Four Vols had five or more rebounds, and UT grabbed 24 offensive boards.
After a first half where neither team led by more
than five points, the teams traded runs early in the
second half.
Tennessee rattled off 11 consecutive points to take
a 53-44 lead on a jumper by Kevin Punter Jr. with
14:31 left in the second half. That nine-point lead
was the largest of the game.
Georgia Tech answered with a 10-0 spurt minutes
later to regain a 58-55 advantage on a Nick Jacobs
layup with 10:19 left in the game.
The Vols struggled with turnovers in the closing
minutes, finishing with 16 on the night.
The Yellow Jackets were led by Jacobs, who had
a career-high 23 points (17 in the first half). Guard
Marcus Georges-Hunt tallied 17 points, while forward Charles Mitchell had a double-double with 12
points and 12 rebounds.

PUNTER DROPS 31 IN OPENER

Senior point guard Kevin Punter Jr. began his 201516 season with a bang, scoring a career-high 31
points in UTs win over UNC Asheville on Nov. 13.
The second-year Vol from the Bronx, also posted
career-bests in field goals made (10) and attempted
(14) and free throws made (8) and attempted (12).
His strong, 35-minute effort also included two assists and two steals.

Barnes Honors Old Tradition

The week of UTs 2015-16 season-opener, Vols

head coach Rick Barnes announced a new spin
on an old Tennessee gameday tradition: Running through the T
I want to embrace some of the traditions that
were part of the past, Barnes said. And I think
theres space for all of it, as well as trying to create our own.
The T, which was a staple of the Tennessee
pregame ceremony from the head coaching tenures of Ray Mears through Buzz Peterson (1960s
through early 2000s), returns for Fridays opener after nearly a decade-long hiatus.

Three Core Principles

In an attempt to establish the culture that has

yielded glowing results throughout his career,
Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes has set forth
three core principles under which the Vols will
operate: Humility, respect and responsibility.
According to associate head coach Rob Lanier: Number one is humility because we believe
that is the mindset you need to have in order to
grow and develop. You have to have an appreciation for this overall opportunity. If you have
a humble nature in your approach, youre going to treat the people you come into contact
with with respect. And then lastly, if theres one
thing we want you to learn walking out of here,
its responsibility. Because at that point, when
you leave here as a young man, we want you
to be able to go out into the world and take the
tools that you learn here over the course of your
time with us and exercise those things in the real
world.
To go along with the three core principles, the
Tennessee staff also has implemented a daily
team-first mindset signified by the acronym
INAM, which stands for Its not about me.

What Does #VFL Stand For?

VFL is an acronym used across Tennessees

various athletic programs that stands for Vol
For Life.
We dont have former Vols. We have VFL!

TENNESSEE BASKETBALL
DEFENDING THE THREE-BALL

ROSTER BREAKDOWN

Tennessees opponents are shooting just .222 (8of-36) from 3-point range this season. Through the
games of Monday, Nov. 16, that ranked 44th nationally.
At Georgia Tech, the Vols held the Yellow Jackets to
2-of-19 shooting from beyond the arc.

The Vols 2015-16 roster features 14 players (12 scholarship student-athletes) representing six states as
well as Ontario, Canada.
There are three Vols who hail from the state of Tennessee, four from Georgia, and a pair of players are
from Alabama and Canada. Florida, Illinois and New
York also are represented.
Tennessee has four seniors, one junior, two sophomores and seven freshmen (including one redshirt
freshman).
Eleven Vols stand 6-5 or shorter, and three players
are 6-6 or taller.
For the first time since the 1995-96 season, UT has
just three players listed at 6-7 or taller. And this is
the first year since 2011-12 that the Vols have no
players taller than 6-9 on the roster.

ZERO TO 100... REAL. QUICK.

The Volunteers are opening the season with seven
games in 16 days. Three of those first seven games
take place on the road, and six of them come on
three or fewer days of rest.

KASONGO RECEIVES CLEARANCE

Vols newcomer Ray Kasongo, a sophomore juniorcollege transfer from the College of Southern Idaho, received clearance from the NCAA on Nov. 13
regarding an amateurism issue stemming from his
recruitment by another institution.
Kasongo was forced to sit out UTs season-opener
vs. UNC Asheville on Nov. 13. He also was required
to pay $300 in restitution.
Kasongo made his Tennessee debut Nov. 16 at Georgia Tech and grabbed two rebounds in two minutes
of action off the bench.

CHARGED UP!
The Vols have drawn four charges this season, with
senior Armani Moore taking a team-high three
charges through UTs first two games.

VOLS PICKED 12th IN SEC

Tennessee was predicted to finish 12th out of 14
teams in the 2016 SEC race by an SEC and national
media voting panel.
The Volunteers posted a 7-11 SEC record to finish
10th a season ago.

ROSTER HEIGHT? RIM PROTECTORS?

BIG CHANGE FOR BARNES
Rick Barnes finds himself standing amongst a much
smaller group of players this season than the giants
he coached last year at Texas.
Texas was one of the tallest teams in the nation last
season, with an effective height of +3.2, which
ranked 26th nationally. Effective height is the average of the center and power forward position.
Last seasons Longhorns boasted seven players who
were 6-8 or taller.
This Tennessee squad has just two players who are
at least 6-8 (true freshman Kyle Alexander is the
tallest, at 6-9).
The average height on this Tennessee roster is 6-4.
Texas was last seasons national leader in blocked
shots per game (7.8 bpg). The Longhorns also were
fourth in the country in rebound margin (fourth, +8.5)
and fifth in rebounds per game (fifth, 39.7 rpg).

VOL RETURNERS HAVE NOT

BEEN RELIED UPON FOR SCORING
This season marks the first time since 1996-97 that
Tennessee enters the year with no players who have
scored at least 550 career Division I points.
Tennessees top returning career scorer is senior Armani Moore, whose three-year points total stands
at 504.
Brandon Wharton was the top returning scorer on
former coach Kevin ONeills 1996-97 Tennessee
squad, and he entered that campaign with a oneyear total of 366 points. In each of the 18 seasons
since then, UTs top returning scorer had at least
550 career points to his credit.

VOLS HOPE TO SEE HUBBS,

MOSTELLA EMERGE ON THE WING
The Tennessee coaching staff hopes to see junior
guard Robert Hubbs III and sophomore guard Detrick Mostella emerge into reliable contributors on
the wing this season.
Both talented and explosive players have shown
flashes of high-scoring potential during their short
careers as Vols.
Hubbs averaged 7.2 points per game last season, but
he scored 15 or more points four times on the year,
(twice vs. Arkansas, at Georgia and vs. Vanderbilt).
Mostellas freshman scoring average stood at just 3.4
points per game, but he erupted for 17 vs. VCU and
13 vs. Kansas (both top-25 teams).

BREAKOUT BREWING FOR BAULKMAN?

After averaging just 14.7 minutes primarily off the
bench last season (he started just seven games), rising senior wing Devon Baulkman could be looked
upon as a player to help fill the void left by Josh
Richardsons departure.
Baulkman was a juco newcomer a season ago, so
now that hes had a year to adjust to the high-major

PATIENCE AND REPETITION

QUOTABLE
#0 Kevin Punter

When he first approached me

about it Im always willing to
take on challenges, but that was
the first time ever someone in my
life has said anything about my
shot. So when he first mentioned, I
took it in, and he was serious about it,
so I got real serious, too. I went along with it,
but it was definitely frustrating at times. There
were a bunch of days where I just wanted to
say forget it. There were a lot of days when I
didnt even make a shot, trying to change my
form. There were a lot of hours in the gym of
just repetition after repetition with certain
things.

% SEC Tournament Champion

FAST BREAK
Rick Barnes Texas team last year ranked
fourth nationally in field-goal percentage defense, holding opponents to just 36.8 percent
shooting. In contrast, opponents shot 43.9
percent against Tennessee last season.

level, he could flourish as the smooth, natural scorer

he showed flashes of during preseason workouts.
Baulkman shot .382 from 3-point range last season.

PROGRAM FIRST: VOLS ROSTER

FEATURES CANADIAN DUO
The newcomer duo of forwards Kyle Alexander and
Ray Kasongo gives the Vols multiple Canadians on
the same roster for the first time in program history.
Tennessee has just one letterman from Canada in the
programs history. Hamilton, Ontario, native Bobby
Croft starred as a Vol from 1967-70 and was a firstteam All-SEC selection as a senior.
Kasongo is a sophomore who played at the College of Southern Idaho last season. He is a native of
Toronto, Ontario. Alexander, a true freshman, hails
from Milton, Ontario, which is about a one-hour
drive southwest of Toronto.
Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes boasts an impressive history of signing and developing Canadian
standouts, including Cory Joseph (Toronto; now
plays for the Toronto Raptors), Myck Kabongo (Toronto; now plays in the NBA D-League) and Tristan
Thompson (Brampton, Ontario; now plays for the
Cleveland Cavaliers).
Drake also is Canadian, and he cold!

VOLS SIGN FOUR

Tennessee has signed four prospects during the
NCAAs 2015 Early Signing Period this November.
Jordan Bone is a 6-2, All-State point guard from
Nashville, Tennessee, who is currently a senior at
The Ensworth School. His older brother, Josh Bone,
was a guard on UTs 2010 Sweet Sixteen team.
John Fulkerson is a 6-8 high-motor forward from
Kingsport, Tennessee, who is a senior at The Christ
School in Arden, North Carolina. He set a school record with 93 blocked shots last year as a junior.
Jalen Johnson is a 6-6 wing from Durham, North
Carolina, who is in his senior year at hoops powerhouse Wesleyan Christian Academy in High Point.
Grant Williams is a bruising, 6-7, All-State forward
who attends Providence Day School in his hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina.

LANIER GIVES VOLS ADDITIONAL

HEAD COACHING EXPERIENCE
Rick Barnes isnt the only person on Tennessees
bench with Division I head coaching experience.
Associate head coach Rob Lanier was the head
coach at Siena from 2001-05.
During that four-year span, the Saints posted a 5870 mark and advanced to one NCAA Tournament
and one NIT.
Under Lanier, Siena also won the 2002 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament Championship.

2014-15

2015-16

REPLACING RICHARDSON
WILL BE COLLECTIVE EFFORT
Tennessee this season is faced with the tall task of
replacing versatile and productive guard Josh Richardson, who graduated in May and was selected
by the Miami Heat in the second round of the NBA
Draft in June.
Richardson started all 32 games at point guard
last season and led the Vols in scoring (16.0 ppg),
field-goal percentage (.461), free-throw percentage
(.798), assists (3.6 apg), steals (2.1 spg) and minutes
played (36.3 mpg).
He accounted for 25.3 percent of the Vols scoring
last season, 32.9 percent of the teams assists, 25.3
percent of the teams total field goals made, 23.7
percent of the teams 3-pointers made and 27.1 percent of the teams steals.
After averaging 11.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists
and 1.7 steals per game with the Heats NBA Summer
League teams in Orlando and Las Vegas, Richardson
signed a three-year contract with Miami on Aug. 3.

MOORE POINTS?

STRENGTH COACH MEDENWALD

WAS A TWO-SPORT STANDOUT
First-year strength and conditioning coach Garrett
Medenwald has an impressive history as a twosport collegiate student-athlete.
At Division III Wisconsin-Stevens Point, he was an
outfielder for the baseball team, which won the Midwest Regional and finished fifth at the 2010 NCAA
Division III College World Series.
As a football running back at Division III WisconsinWhitewater, he helped lead the Warhawks to backto-back national championships in 2010 and 2011.
Medenwald finished his football career at Whitewater holding several program weight room records
in cleans, snatch, split jerk, bench press, pro agility,
broad jump, vertical jump and 40-yard dash.
Also an elite powerlifter, Medenwald was a national
qualifier in Olympic weightlifting.

How many games willl it take for Vols senior Armani

Moore to set a new career-high for scoring? Hes
scored 19 points twice, but has never reached 20.

UPCOMING SCHEDULING NOTES

During the week of Thanksgiving, Tennessee takes
part in the four-team Barclays Center Classic in
Brooklyn, New York. The field also includes Cincinnati, George Washington and Nebraska. The Vols
will play two games at the event (Nov. 27-28).
Tennessee concludes a two-year, home-and-home
contract with Butler Dec. 12 at historic Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. UTs all-time series with Butler is tied at 2-2, dating to 1958. Rick Barnes 17-year
head coaching tenure at Texas ended with a loss to
Butler in the second round of last seasons NCAA
Tournament in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Tennessee makes its first trip to the West Coast since
2009 when it heads to Washington for the Battle
in Seattle against Gonzaga. This years clash marks
a rematch of the 2007 event, in which 11th-ranked
Tennessee defeated the Bulldogs 82-72 (one of only
four losses for the Zags in the events 12-year history).
Tennessee trails its all-time series with Gonzaga 1-2,
dating to that 2007 meeting. The Battle in Seattle is
technically a neutral-site game, as the Bulldogs campus is located in Spokane. The series contract calls for
a return game in Nashville in 2016-17.
Former UT assistant coach Steve Forbes (2006-11)
returns to Thompson-Boling Arena as a first-year
Division I head coach when his ETSU squad visits
Knoxville Dec. 22. Tennessee leads its all-time series
with ETSU 13-2, dating to 1945.

Tennessee began an eight-year apparel

and sponsorship agreement with Nike
on July 1, 2015.

TENNESSEE PART OF 2016 MAUI FIELD

Tennessee will join Chaminade (host school), UConn, Georgetown, North Carolina, Oklahoma State,
Oregon and Wisconsin in the 2016 Maui Jim Maui

It will be UTs third all-time appearance at the Maui
Invitational. The Vols also played in the event in
2004 (fourth place) and 2011 (seventh place).

Hoops a Priority on Rocky Top

The University of Tennessee has invested
more than $40 million into its basketball facilities since the end of the 2006-07 campaign.
Prior to the 2007-08 season, UT added a
basketball-only practice facility and began the
first phase of renovations to Thompson-Boling
Arena.
The $19 million first phase of renovations included the addition of 32 luxury suites that are
located in the existing north balcony, a loge
area just below the luxury suites that includes
166 side court seats, new seats for the entire
arena, a $3 million center-hung scoreboard and
concourse refurbishments, such as graphics and
other amenities.
The Vols state-of-the-art basketball practice
facility, Pratt Pavilion, houses two full-size gymnasiums, one for each of the mens and womens
basketball teams, as well as an athletic training
room, weight room and film-study room.
The athletic department renovated the mens
and womens basketball offices at the arena
during the 2010-11 campaign, creating a new
and impressive front door for the basketball
programs.
New to Thompson-Boling Arena in 2013-14
was the 360-degree LED ribbon board that runs
along the bottom of the upper deck.
And in March of 2014, TBA became the third
college arena to install an LED lighting system
(joining Arizona State and Notre Dame).

QUOTABLE

LaMarcus Aldridge, San Antonio Spurs

Rick Barnes always told me I would be a franchise player, a go-to guy. I cant say that
I always believed him, but he was right. He told me if I kept working hard and stayed
with it, then I would be a go-to guy in the NBA, and it worked out. He kept me positive and kept me going in the right direction when I could have stopped believing in
myself. That was a key to my development as a player.

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

BARNES IS A NASCAR FANATIC

Rick Barnes commitment to his players academic

achievement cannot be overstated. His teams have
posted a perfect 1,000 score in each of the last five
multi-year APR reports, as well as perfect singleyear APR scores every year dating to 2005-06.
A total of 28 Tennessee mens basketball players have graduated in the last seven years. Those
players are: Josh Bone, Galen Campbell, Quinn
Cannington, Quinton Chievous, Ryan Childress,
Wayne Chism, DMontre Edwards, John Fields,
Melvin Goins, Kenny Hall, Tony Harris, Michael
Hubert, Justin Jackson, Chris Lofton, Brandon
Lopez, Jeronne Maymon, Skylar McBee, Jordan
McRae, Dwight Miller, Rob Murphy, Steven Pearl,
J.P. Prince, Josh Richardson, Tyler Summitt, Cameron Tatum, C.J. Watson, Tanner Wild and Renaldo
Woolridge.
Of those 28 graduates in the last six years, 16 went
on to sign professional basketball contracts and two
have gone into coaching.

Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes loves him some

NASCAR. He grew up in the heart of NASCAR country in Hickory, North Carolina, attending races at
Hickory Motor Speedway.
Barnes has often said that if his brothers had to
choose between watching him coach in the Final
Four or attending a NASCAR race, they would undoubtedly attend the race!
Asked for his prediction on who will win this years
Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, Barnes said, Oh
its got to be Kevin Harvick. You cant pick against
the champ. Hes a bad boy!

FOUR WEARING VOLSCHOLAR PATCH

Four Vols upperclassmen have earned the privilege
of wearing a VOLScholar patch on their game jersey: Robert Hubbs III, Armani Moore, Kevin Punter
Jr. and Derek Reese
To be eligible to wear the patch, Tennessee studentathletes must achieve a 3.0 GPA in either of the two
previous semesters, or they must own a cumulative
3.0 GPA (freshmen are not eligible for the patch).

DIPLOMAS IN SIGHT FOR SENIORS

All four Tennessee seniors are on track to receive
their degrees by the conclusion of this academic
year: Devon Baulkman (Communication Studies),
Armani Moore (Communication Studies), Kevin
Punter Jr. (Recreation/Sport Management) and
Derek Reese (Psychology)

TENNESSEE A.D. HART

A TRUE BASKETBALL MAN
Tennessee Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics
Dave Hart is a true basketball man, as he played
collegiately at Alabama.
A 1971 Alabama graduate, Hart played under legendary head coach C.M. Newton and earned a masters
degree from UA in 1972 while working as a graduate
assistant basketball coach.
Hart is the only AD in the SEC who was a college
basketball player.

USELESS (BUT INTERESTING) INFO

Sophomore guard Detrick Mostella has the smallest
shoe size on the team, as he wears a 10.5.
The fingerprints of koala bears are virtually indistinguishable from those of humans, so much so that
they could be confused at a crime scene.
Tennessee assistant coach Chris Ogden was named
Mr. Basketball in the state of Texas as a senior at
Seminole High School in 1999. Other Texas Mr. Basketball winners include Chris Bosh, Rashard Lewis,
Larry Johnson, Justise Winslow and Shaq.
At the Final Four in Houston in 2011, Rick Barnes
received the U.S. Basketball Writers Associations
Good Guy Award for coaching excellence and for
cooperation with the media.

BARNES HAS ENJOYED

SUCCESS IN YEAR ONE
At his four previous head coaching stops, Rick
Barnes has averaged 18 wins in his first year guiding
a program.
Over the last five years in the SEC, mens basketball
teams with first-year head coaches have averaged
14.9 wins.
Barnes highest first-year win total was 20, which he
attained as a rookie head coach at George Mason
in 1987-88. His lowest first-year wins total was 15;
that occurred in 1994-95 at Clemson. Barnes guided
Providence to 18 victories during his first year there
in 1988-89, and his 1998-99 Texas squad totaled 19
wins.
His debut campaigns at Providence and Texas both
ended with trips to the NCAA Tournament.
In three of the aforementioned seasons, Barnes managed to guide his new school to a top-50 year-end
RPI: No. 29 with Providence in 1988-89; No. 33 with
Clemson in 1994-95; No. 45 with Texas in 1998-99.

Newbern, Tenn. | Dyer County HS

@datkiddRobert

Dating to last season, he has scored in double figures in five of UTs last six games, averaging 13.5 points
during that span (81 points in the last six games).
Was the first Vol in double figures at Georgia Tech (11/16/15) and finished the game with 13 points in a careerhigh 36 minutes.
Poured in a career-high 18 pionts on 8-of-12 shooting to help the Vols to a season-opening win vs. UNC Asheville
Came up with a huge block late against UNCA, denying the possible game-tying layup with 1:27 to play. The
block allowed Tennessee to go on a 6-0 run and establish key breathing room over the final minute.
Appeared in all 32 games last season and made 20 starts on the wing.
Averaged 7.2 points (fourth on the team) and 2.9 rebounds while shooting .409 from the field and .333 from
3-point range.
Flourished at the end of last season, averaging 12.5 points over UTs final four games.
In SEC play, he started 16 of 18 games and increased his scoring output to 8.4 points (he averaged 4.6 points
in UTs 12 non-conference games).
Scored in double figures seven times last season -- all during SEC play.

2 RAY KASONGO

SO Forward | 6-8 | 245 | Theatre

Toronto, Ontario, Canada | College of Southern Idaho

@RayKasongo32

Made his Tennessee debut against Georgia Tech, recording two rebounds in two minutes of action.
Eligible to play vs. Georgia Tech after sitting out the season-opener vs. UNC Asheville in the wake of an
amateurism issue which preceded his enrollment at Tennessee. He was required to pay $300 in restitution
before playing his first game with UT.
Logged two points and one offensive rebound in three minutes off the bench during UTs exhibition win.
One of the teams most physically gifted athletes; an effortless jumper with a strong body frame.
Possesses outstanding shot-blocking instincts.
Averaged 6.0 ppg, 4.9 rpg and 2.2 bpg last season as a freshman at the College of Southern Idaho.
Is one of two Canadians on this years roster, along with sophomore forward Ray Kasongo (Toronto).
Alexander and Kasongo give Tennessee multiple Canadians on the roster for the first time in program history;
the only Canadian letterman in school history is All-SEC center Bobby Croft (1967-70, Hamilton, Ontario).
Lives with teammates Robert Hubbs III, Detrick Mostella and Derek Reese.

Scored a career-high in points for the second consecutive game, dropping in 10 for the Vols against Georgia
Tech (11/16/15). It was the first double-digit scoring performance of his career.
Came off the bench to provide 17 gritty minutes for UT vs. UNC Asheville, including a career-high nine points,
six rebounds, three steals, and a two key free throws with under a minute to play in a close ballgame.
Struggled with foul trouble in UTs exhibition win over Alabama-Huntsville, logging three fouls in six minutes.
Overcomes his lack of size by possessing a non-stop motor and bringing his hard hat every day.
Redshirted last season after breaking his right foot during the eighth game of the year (at NC State).
Appeared in eight games on the year, with two starts, and averaged 4.4 points and 3.8 rebounds in 12.9
minutes per game.
Before his injury, he ranked second on the team with 2.3 offensive rebounds per game and led the Vols in
charges drawn, with four.
Also owned a team-best .700 FG percentage before his injury last season.
One of four Georgia natives on the Vols roster, joining Devon Baulkman, Armani Moore and Shembari Phillips.
Lives with teammates Devon Baulkman, Armani Moore and Kevin Punter.

Led the Vols in scoring (29), rebounds (10), assists (5) and steals (3) as UT downed Alabama-Huntsville in exhibition action.
Has never scored 20 points in a game; hes logged a creer-high 19 points twice.
Tennessees most experienced and most versatile player, he will see action at every position, 1-4.
Will be one of Tennessee primary ball-handlers, along with fellow senior Kevin Punter Jr., this season.
Enters the season as a .230 career 3-point shooter, but he has invested in raising that average significantly.
Started all 32 games last season and led the Vols in total rebounding (6.8 rpg, 8th in SEC), offensive rebounding (2.8
orpg, 5th in SEC) and blocks (1.2 bpg, 9th in SEC) while ranking second on the team in scoring (10.3 ppg) and assists

BOX SCORES

Three Vols set career-highs for scoring as Tennessee tipped off the Rick Barnes era with
an 82-78 win over UNC Asheville Nov. 13, 2015, at Thompson-Boling Arena.
Kevin Punter Jr. scored a career-high 31, while Robert Hubbs III scored a career-high 18
and Jabari McGhee logged a career-best nine points.
Vols senior Armani Moore did a bit of everything, totaling 12 points, eight rebounds, six
assists, two blocks and one steal. He also drew two charges.
UT shot 50 percent in the first half and had just three turnovers, but a 23-13 edge on the
boards kept UNC Asheville within a point at the break, 34-33.
Bulldogs forward Will Weeks gave UNC Asheville the lead, 71-69, with 2:47 to go. But
Moore went right back down the court to tie with a jumper, draw a foul and put the Vols
back on top with the ensuing free throw.
Weeks would tie the game back up with a free throw, but a 6-0 UT run, highlighted by
a pair of baskets from Punter, swung the momentum back to the Volunteers. Hubbs had
a huge block on the defensive end to key the second of those baskets, but he went down
after the play with a cramp and did not return.
The Vols hit four free throws over the final 37 seconds, and McGhee came up with a
leaping steal at midcourt after the final of those to seal the win.
Weeks led the Bulldogs 25 points.

Tennessees late charge wasnt enough as the Vols lost at Georgia Tech, 69-67, on Monday night at McCamish Pavilion in Atlanta.
Georgia Techs 17-3 run in the second half proved to be too much for the Vols to overcome, as Tennessee had three chances in the final 80 seconds to tie or take the lead.
Devon Baulkmans 3-pointer was just long as the buzzer sounded.
The Vols were led by Armani Moores 17 points. Robert Hubbs III added 13 points, while
Jabari McGhee had a career-high 10 points.
After grabbing only 33 rebounds in its opener, Tennessee corralled 53 boards, led by
Derek Reeses career-high-tying 10. Four Vols had five or more rebounds, and UT grabbed
24 offensive boards.
After a first half where neither team led by more than five points, the teams traded runs
early in the second half.
Tennessee rattled off 11 consecutive points to take a 53-44 lead on a jumper by Kevin
Punter Jr. with 14:31 left in the second half. That nine-point lead was the largest of the
game.
Georgia Tech answered with a 10-0 spurt minutes later to regain a 58-55 advantage on
a Nick Jacobs layup with 10:19 left in the game.
The Vols struggled with turnovers in the closing minutes, finishing with 16 on the night.
The Yellow Jackets were led by Jacobs, who had a career-high 23 points (17 in the first
half). Guard Marcus Georges-Hunt tallied 17 points, while forward Charles Mitchell had a
double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
