At its June 15 meeting, the Kohler School
Board voted to appoint
Peter Schueller to the
Board replacing Matt
Kautzer.
Mr. Schueller, a graduate of Kohler Schools, has been
president and owner of Lakeside
Bottling Company since 2012.
Mr. Schueller is a certified public
accountant who was previously a
partner with the audit and consulting firm, Deloite & Touche,
LLP. He and his wife, Erin, have
five children four of whom are
currently enrolled in the District.
In addition to his professional
credentials, Mr. Schueller cited
the following personal attributes
in his letter of interest to the
Board:

Industry survey reveals Tender

Hearts Senior Care success
North American annual study proves staff turnover rate
lower than average which confirms retention efforts are
paying off

A consistent theme among employers today is the need to find
and retain quality employees. And
while no company is immune to
those challenges, Tender Hearts
Senior Care learned that their efforts are creating positive results.
In the 2015 Private Duty Benchmarking Study, Tender Hearts
found they had a significantly
lower turnover compared with the
88% for the Great Lakes region
and 62% study wide. The study
has been conducted annually since
2009 by Home Care Pulse and endorsed by the Home Care Association of America. The 2015
research surveyed 701 home care
service providers throughout
North America. In addition to employment issues, the study addresses finance, sales, marketing,
and operations to allow comparison to industry peers.
Ongoing education and support
have assisted in employment
longevity for Tender Hearts. Of
their entire team, 61% have provided over 10,000 hours of service
per caregiver and 91% of the team
has over 2,300 care hours per care-

giver. Typical for the home care

industry, employers offer online
training with course material accessed by caregivers when required by the agency. Tender

Kohler-Andrae State Park one of

most popular

Based on a recent report,
Kohler-Andrae State Park had an
estimated 414,830 visitors in 2010,
which placed it 6th among Wisconsins 45 state parks. These visitors spent a total of $19,893,383
during their visit or en route. The
report, Economic Impacts of the
Wisconsin State Park System, was
published by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources in
November, 2013. The nearly $20
million in visitor expenditures
ranked Kohler-Andrae 9th overall.

Indeed, many of Kohler-Andraes biggest fans are from relatively close by. Approximately
80% of the parks visitors were
from an 8-county southeastern region that included Sheboygan,
Ozaukee, Washington, Waukesha,
Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha, and
Walworth. For comparison, only
55% of visitors to all Wisconsin
state parks came from a particular

parks region.
The report also summarized visitor expenditures by the type of
state facility, with visitors spending an estimated $90 per person
per day at State Trails, $67 at State
Rec Areas, and $50 at State Parks.
Most of the additional spending at
State Trail sites was due to dollars
allocated for accommodations and
restaurants/bars by snowmobilers
and ATV riders, which was more
than double what was spent by
State Park visitors for the same
items.

A Ping Pong tournament was recently held at the Kohler Youth Center. Each days champion signed a green shirt.

Simran Bhatia, who will be a fifth grader at Kohler Elementary this fall, participated in the 2015 US Junior
Open National Chess Championship held at Schaumburg
IL June 12-14.
The prestigious annual three-day, six-round National
USCF rated chess championship was hosted by
ChessIQ Academy. The competition included 184 players under age 21 from all over the United States. Simran
finished first place in the U1200 section, where she competed against 38 players in the under age 11 category.

Marlene met with Tom Schnettler to discuss how
to attract future Kohler residents and how to

NATIONAL HISTORY DAY PROJECTS
Congratulations to Emma Egbert and Cindy Zheng for
receiving a medal and special award for Civil Rights
for their project on Judy Chamberlin. Three projects
are moving on to the National competition in June in
Maryland. Special recognition goes to: Kate OLeary
with her play on Elizabeth Blackwell , Nicole Koenecke and Hannah Neist with their exhibit on Mahatma Gandhi, Grace Unger and Cecilia Zielke with
their exhibit on William Lloyd Garrison. Our students achievement is made possible, in part, by the
full-hearted support of their teachers: Ms. Mona
LaBudde and Mr. Matt Beyens and their
families. Thank you to Mrs. LaBudde and Mr.
Beyens and families for their support.
FORENSICS
Congratulations to Ian Creek, Matt Feltner, and
Alexandrea Willadsen for their outstanding performance at the state forensics competition earning them
letters and silver medals. Forensic performances
are judged on composure and the ability to connect
with the audience. For all students, there is a
healthy amount of anxiety and Matt and Ian overcame the unique adversities associated with Autism
Spectrum Disorder. The difference was made by the
extraordinary efforts of the faculty of the special education department: Ms. Lori Schmid for tireless
practicing and traveling to the competition and support throughout the process, Mrs. Kim Wilkens and
Ms. Alree Thee for their supportive coaching. Our
entire school community celebrates this moment of
pride.
PIE THROWING CONTEST
Students of Mr. Tengowskis advisory raised money
for charity from the sales of a chance to throw
cream pie in the faces of Mr. Poytinger, Ms.
Godlewski, Mr. Bocchini, and me. We discovered
that cream is an effective hair product! In the spirit
of community building, it was good fun for all.
TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK
The school community celebrated the extraordinary
work of our teachers and support staff at a luncheon
hosted by the Kohler School Friends and with gifts of
appreciation throughout the week. Special thanks to
Nicole Brigham for the thoughtful gifts and Sonja
Heins, Beth Tengowski, and Linda Lewis for preparing the luncheon.
EBBEN FIELD UPDATE
Seeds planted, straw laid, hope to see first blades of
grass come Memorial weekend. In the fall, Soccer
games will be played on the football field. Practice
facilities will be onsite on the west field, planted last
year, for football and soccer practices in coordination with coaches and game schedules. A summer
and fall fundraising drive for lights on the soccer
field is ahead.
BUDGETAn unprecedented groundswell in opposition
to the proposed cuts to the education budget has
spread across the state. Board resolutions, superintendent and teacher letters to legislators and editorials, parent groups testimonials at public hearings,

and alliances with business partners is making a

statement that Wisconsin public schools need the
restoration of 127M in proposed cuts to the biennium budget. Restoration of the cuts would put
schools back to zero rather over negative. As State
Superintendent Evers states, Zero is not a win.
The states budget process will conclude in the next
weeks. I applaud and thank everyone who has
taken interest and action in support of funding for
quality public education in our community.
PRINCIPAL SEARCH UPDATE
I wish to thank the board, faculty, and families for
their time and commitment to the input sessions for
principals for our three schools. It is crystal clear
we are a community deeply invested in our schools.
We share excitement over finding the best to lead
our schools.
STRATEGIC COMPENSATION
A presentation by the committee provided teachers
with the committees goals, process, guiding questions, research, and the performance-base salary
model. There was overwhelming consensus for appreciation for the committees work and boards
commitment to supporting quality educators.
KEY CLUB
High school students from Key Club and I were delighted to spend our afternoon with the community
at the Firemans picnic fundraiser. I am so proud of
how our high school students served in the spirit of
giving to the community.
WASDA 48th ANNUAL EDUCATION CONFERENCE
The theme: Closing the communication gap: Building relationships with key audiences in your district
is a
tImely topic for Kohler School District and its future
commitment to strategic communication. The new
role for school leaders includes Evidence Based Advocacy. We will be listening and learning together to
strengthen our community through the work of our
schools.

Elementary News
Thanks to the generosity of the Kohler School Foundation, our fourth grade students recently went on a
field trip to JA Biztown. JA BizTown gives thousands
of students in grades four through six the opportunity to run banks, manage restaurants, read utility
meters, use debit cards, and even vote. It combines
in-class learning with a daylong visit to their
facility. It is a fully interactive, true-to-life simulation where students learn the fundamental relationship between academics and life beyond
school. Their interactive curriculum engages and
excites students, leading to stronger critical-thinking
and decision-making skills and more confidence.
Middle School News
The 8th grade students attended Junior Achievements Finance Park on Friday, April 24th. Over the
past month, advisors have been teaching the kids
the JA Curriculum to prepare them for their experience on this day. The experience took place from
9am - 1:30pm.
The eighth graders got to see what financial decisions parents need to make on a weekly basis. The
advisors heard many comments from students
throughout the day about their excitement and what
they learned. Many of them were in aww about
budgeting their money and realizing that the dollar
does not go very far. Each student was given a situation. For example, married, 2 children, credit score
of 500, income of $25000 per year, and had to make
their purchasing decisions based on their scenario
in the following areas: home, vehicle, cell phone
plan for their family, eating out, clothing purchases,
and many more. They even had to make credit card
payments in addition to paying utilities! Their goal
was to have a balance of $0 at the end. This included putting money into savings and giving to
charities, if they could afford it.

JA does a great job making the experience as realistic as possible. Their curriculum prepared the students to make the best educated decisions based on
their specific financial situation. Thank you to the
Kohler Foundation for funding this worthwhile field
trip for our students.
163 elementary students and 184 middle school
students completed their Badger testing over the
last several weeks. I want to acknowledge the hard
work of the students, the teachers who proctored the
tests, Ryan Miller for his outstanding technical support and Karen Ingels for diligence in making sure
everything ran smoothly.

4th of July Sousa Concert

The Village of Kohler proudly presents the 4th of July Sousa Concert
Saturday, July 4. Join us for an exciting night of live music and entertainment at Kohler Ravine Park. Free
Admission.
Concessions open at 6pm, Sousa Concert starts at
8pm, followed by fireworks.
Music presented by Kiel Municipal Band under the
direction of Dr. Jon Meyer.
Enjoy brats, hot dogs, hamburgers, cotton candy, snocones and popcorn. Concessions run by the Kohler
Schools Athletic Department. The Kohler Fire Department will sell beer.

Bike Safety Day

On June 6, 2015 the Kohler Police Department held
a bike safety day in the parking lot adjacent to the
Village Hall buildings. We had approximately 45 attendees with some really nice weather. Officer
Matthew Hocevar and Administrative Assistant
Jodie Kuklinski did a good job in preparing for the
event this year. Harley from Wolfs Cycle was present and did a safety inspection on each bicycle.
Each attendee received a new bicycle helmet and a
bike accessory along with a beverage and a bag of
chips. The bicycle helmets were provided at a discount and fitted by Aurora Memorial Medical Center. The chips were donated by Frito Lay of
Oostburg and the soda was donated by Lakeside
Pepsi out of Sheboygan Falls. We all look forward
to doing it again next year. Pictures of the event are
posted on the Kohler Police Department website at
www.kohlerpolice.com.
New Website
When you go to www.kohlerpolice.com, you will
find that the website has been updated. We still
have the vacation checks and bike license application on the site. Administrative Assistant Jodie
Kuklinski put a lot of hard work into it, and hopefully you find the new site to be better than the previous one.

The Village Board thanked Bill Kunst for his years of

outstanding service and contributions to the Village of
Kohler as a Trustee.

2nd Installment Real Estate Tax Payments
If you didnt pay your real estate taxes in full, the second installment of your tax bill is due July 31, 2015.
Payments can be made in person at the Sheboygan
County Treasurers Office, 508 New York Avenue,
Sheboygan. If paying by mail, the payment must be
post marked on or before July 31, 2015, checks or
money orders only, payable to the Sheboygan County
Treasurer, 508 New York Avenue, Sheboygan, WI
53081. Second installment payments cannot be accepted at the Village of Kohler Clerk-Treasurers Office. If you have any questions regarding payment of
property taxes, please call the Sheboygan County
Treasurers Office at 920-459-3015.
Office Hours
The Village Offices will be closed Friday, July 3. Regular office hours are Monday Friday, 7:30 am 4:00
pm.

Parking issues
This is just a reminder that the Village has restrictions on parking of trailers, campers, and RVs on
any Village street for longer than a 24 hour period.
If an owner of an RV needs longer than that for
preparation for a trip, contact the police department.
The ordinance (11.20.030) was enacted to limit the
amount of boats and other types of trailers on the
streets for several reasons, including esthetics.

The July Activity Calendar at the Youth Center has
been set. Up and coming events include the popular
Ping Pong Tournaments, Friday Night Movie Nights
and free billiards all day on Sundays. Exciting
events for the month of July include: a middle
school lock-in July 14, talent show July 22, and a
live band and our 100th day of operation celebration
on July 25. Check our website

Games Anyone will be held Tuesday, July 7 at 2PM.
Please meet at the Youth Center or Pool and join in
the fun.
Ping Pong Tournaments are held throughout the
month of July. Win the tournament and sign our
champion t-shirt. This t-shirt will be on display at
the Youth Center all summer.
Friday night movie night begins each Friday at
6PM. This is held in the middle and high school carpeted area.
Free Billiard Sundays ever wanted to learn how to
play pool? Come on down on Sundays for a chance
to practice your skills all day.
Middle School Lock-In July 14 from 7:30-11PM.

All Middle School kids entering grades 6 -8 are

invited to an evening of locked-in fun at the
pool and in the Youth Center. Lock-in snack special includes a hot dog, small drink, chips and a
25 or 50 piece of candy for $3.
Talent Show July 22 from 7:30-11PM. Calling all
talent! Whether you sing, juggle, dance or do
stand-up comedy this talent show is for you. Come
up with an original talent and showcase it this
evening at the Youth Center. Talent show snack
special include a hot dog, small drink, chips and a
25 or 50 piece of candy for $3.
June 25 - 100TH DAY OPEN CELEBRATION. We
invite you to stop in and take a look at our newly
renovated facility. There will be festivities, hourly
specials and a confetti throw at 12:30 p.m. We are
hoping to book our first high school live band performance. Watch for upcoming details.
Game Night July 28 from 6-8PM. FREE Air
Hockey, Pool and Ping Pong. Come learn how to
play or take on a friendly game.
KPAL Swim Meet July 30 at 7PM. All swimmers
competing in the swim meet will earn a FREE Hot
