System Requirements
Power Supply
The 20/20 system uses both a switched power source and a constant unswitched power source.
By using the constant source, the system will maintain power to save data and safely shut down
if the igni on is suddenly shut o. By using the switched or keyed source, the 20/20 will turn
itself o to keep from draining the ba ery if the system is le on a er the igni on is shut o. If
you are only supplying constant power, when you turn on the 20/20 you will only see a blank
grey screen. If this happens, you have two op ons. One, you can correct the problem by fixing
the switched power leg of the 12V receptacle, or two, you can move the terminal plug on the
20/20 tractor harness from the white to the red spade. By doing this, your 20/20 will no longer
shut itself down automa cally when you turn the igni on o, so, if you do not turn the 20/20
o, you risk draining your ba ery.
Prong 3 - Ground
Fuse Protec on
To protect the 20/20 from damage, always use a minimum of a 30 Amp fuse or circuit breaker
on the power supply circuit.
955125_04
1/14
To receive the full value from your 20/20, it is recommended that you fully configure the
20/20 as described in the Setup sec on of this manual.

Popula on
The large black number at the top of the popula on
bu on indicates the planter average popula on in
thousands of seeds. The rainbow chart displays the
planter average (large black diamond) and individual
rows (small diamond). The small numbers under the
rainbow chart indicate the target popula on and the
alert limits that you set. The two boxes at the bo om
display the current low and high rows for popula on.
Singula on
The large black number at the top of the singula on
bu on indicates the planter average singula on. This
is the percentage of seeds properly singulated by your
meters. The rainbow chart and the low and high row
bu ons, like those under popula on, display rows that
vary from the planter average.
Good Spacing
The large black number at the top of the Good Spacing
bu on indicates the percentage of seeds properly spaced
according to the set parameters. The default spacing
parameter is 4 and can be changed in the setup menu.
The rainbow chart and the low and high row bu ons
show how individual rows vary from the planter average.
Down Force
The Down Force bu on displays three values. The low
and high row readings display the average weight carried
by the gauge wheels on these two rows. Margin displays
the average amount of excess weight over what is
needed to achieve depth. Use the margin to predict how
much down force could be removed and s ll maintain
depth. Ground Contact displays the percentage of me
when at least some weight is being carried by the gauge
wheels and that proper depth is being achieved.
955125_04
1/14
Acres
This bu on displays the values for the three acre
counters. Acre Counters A and B are individually
rese able counters that can be used to track whatever
increment of acres you choose. Field Acres tracks acres
planted in the current field. They are indicated on this
bu on as A (Acre Counter A), B (Acre Counter B), and F
(Field Acres). Press the bu on for further details on all
three acre counters or to reset Acre Counter A or B.
Vacuum
Vacuum displays the vacuum pressure for a vacuum
planter equipped with SeedSense vacuum sensors. Up to
two readings may be displayed simultaneously as le
and right.
Hex Sha
Hex Sha displays the speed of the hex sha rela ve to
its expected speed given actual planter speed and target
popula on. This reading may indicate wheel slippage
in ground drive systems and radar calibra on errors in
hydraulic drive systems. It is not a parameter to
manage by itself. Rather, it is a tool to diagnose
popula on problems or drivetrain issues.
Good Ride
The Good Ride bu on displays the percent of me when
ride quality is sucient not to interfere with seed
spacing. This measurement provides assistance in
diagnosing spacing errors. Poor spacing is typically
caused by either a bumpy row unit ride or a jerky meter
drive system. Good Ride is not a parameter to manage
by itself. Rather, it is a tool to diagnose spacing problems.
Loss/acre
Each skip, mul ple, and misplaced seed is assigned a
yield loss. When you input the current price of corn (in
the setup menu), Loss/acre calculates how much these
errors are cos ng you. The point where Good turns to
a dollar value and where the bu on turns yellow and red
is configurable in the setup menu.

Record Memo
Record Memo allows you to enter a typed memo or
record a spoken memo to track a par cular anomaly in
the field. The memo is given a GPS me and loca on
stamp so that you can locate the place where the memo
was recorded.
Speed
This box displays your planter speed according to the GPS
receiver. Above the speed, a satellite dish icon indicates
that the receiver is func oning and each bar indicates a
satellite in view. For best results, you should see at least
one of the longer bars on the right.

Step 1
Select your row width and popula on on the le half of the table.
Step 2
Follow the row to the right to iden fy your seed spacing in inches.
If the seed spacing is 2.5 or less, the Singula on and Seed Spacing will not be available.
Step 3
Follow the row you have selected over to the MPH columns and select your speed. This number is the
seeds per second you are plan ng.
If the seeds per second is greater than 40, Singula on and Seed Spacing will not be available.
Step 4
Follow the row to the Economic column. This set of numbers is what you will select for Misplaced Seed

System Overview
The 20/20 SeedSense monitoring system consists of five main components and corresponding wiring harnesses.
These parts include, the Touch screen Display, the 37 pin Smart Connector, the GPS receiver, the Row Unit Module
(RUM), and the Smart Pin down force sensor.
The Monitor
The 8 touch screen in the cab comes with a metal
moun ng bracket with a pivo ng head. An op onal,
ar culated arm mount (also known as a RAM mount)
and a suc on cup can also be used. On the le side
of the monitor, the top hole is a microphone jack for
recording voice informa on. Below that are two USB
ports which are used for data transfer or to plug in a
USB accessible mouse. Between the two USB ports is
a light sensor that controls screen brightness. On the
back of the monitor, the on/o switch is at the lower
le hand corner, and the 16 pin AMP receptacle is at
the lower right hand corner.
The GPS receiver has a magne c base and should be mounted to the
top of the cab for best recep on.
The GPS receiver collects your mapping posi on and speed from
satellites and incorporates the details into the monitor. The receiver
plugs into the tractor harness (supplied by Precision Plan ng)
955125_04
1/14
42
Harnesses
There are 3 harness types: Tractor Harness, Extension Cables and Smart
Connector Adapter Cables.
The Tractor Harness receives power from inside the cab and connects to
the Monitor, the GPS Receiver, then out the back of the cab to the Smart
Connector. The tractor harness delivers power from the cab to the Smart
Connector while at the same me receiving data from the Smart
Connector and sending it to the Monitor.
The Extension Cables will be used in kits where more length is needed to
reach the Smart Connector toward the back of the planter, or if you are
running two Smart Connectors
The Smart Connector Adapter Cables are used to reconfigure the Smart
Connector wiring when needed for certain planter configura ons.
Your 20/20 kit will only include the harnesses needed for your planter
model. There may be addi onal adapter harnesses needed if your
planter does not match the standard manufacturers configura on.

Power Adapters
3-Wire Power Adapter
Part # 725292
Orange = Switched Circuit
Red = Ba ery Circuit
Black = Ground
This adapter allows you to add a new power receptacle. Always draw power through a 30 Amp or smaller fuse.
Part # 725269
This adapter allows you to draw power from the cigare e lighter. (This is the least recommended source, because
it is less secure and is normally not switched with the igni on.)
Part # 725270
This adapter allows you to draw power from a port on a John Deere power strip in the cab.
Part # 725254
Plug the single 3-prong connector into your 3-prong tractor power and this adapter will supply you with two plugs
to use.
Part # 725256
Want to operate the monitor away from the cab? Plug the 3-prong into a wall outlet and the 16 pin connector into
the back of the monitor.

Connecng to GPS
Included GPS Receiver
The SeedSense base kit includes a basic GPS receiver that is adequate for SeedSense systems
that are not controlling clutches or hydraulic motors through 20/20 RowFlow. Connec ng this
GPS receiver to the SeedSense tractor harness provides all of the necessary data to the
SeedSense without any need to configure the receiver or the display. It transmits the GGA and
RMC NMEA messages at 4800 baud with a frequency of 1 Hz. Precision Plan ng also sells the
Hemisphere A100 receiver with adapter harness that connects directly into the SeedSense
tractor harness. This receiver is configured to transmit GGA, RMC, and VTG NMEA messages.

Install Steps
1 Look for the 37-pin junc on near the center of the planter. It should be located in the harness between the
seed tubes and the wedge box.
Note: There may be more than one 37-pin junc on on the planter. To tell if you have the correct junc on,
look at the pin arrangement. There should be a pin for each planter row plus two or four pins for power. For
example, if you have a 16 row planter, pin #1 thru -#16 should be populated plus two or four pins for power in
the #27- #30 holes.
2 Once you have located the correct junc on, simply a ach the 37-pin male end into the 37-pin female on each
side of the Smart Connector.
3 Then, a ach the 4-pin extension harness (725477) to the receptacle on the face of the Smart Connector. Run
the 4-pin extension cable along the planter bar and up to the planter hitch.
