Program Title

Dame Jennifer has proven time and again, the importance of persistence during the seventeen years (1972 to 1989) and six attempts that
it took her to win election in the Constituency of St. Georges North;
which she changed from a United Bermuda Party (UBP) stronghold to a
Progressive Labour Party (PLP) stronghold. (The change to a single seat
constituencies has seen St. Georges North become a Marginal constituency.)
Dame Jennifer has gained a wealth of experience in her thirty -one
years (December 1980) as a Parliamentarian. The youngest women ever
to run in a general election when she made her debut in 1972 (four
years after universal adult suffrage was implemented) . Dame Jennifer
served as an appointed member of the Upper House, the Senate, for
nine yearsduring which time she established herself as an effective
and articulate spokesperson for the PLP and earned a reputation for
diligence and the rest is history
