Basic Elements of a Forest Fire Management
Organization
1. An officially designated organization/agency responsible for the
protection of forest resources by preventing, detecting and
suppressing wildland fires within a specific land area.
2. Daily tactical detection and reporting of fires.

3. Well organized, equipped and trained fire crew(s).

4. Rapid response to a fire (Initial Attack).

5. Availability and use of proper firefighting and support equipment.

6. Cooperation between government agencies, institutions and communities


whose assistance is needed in large, emergency fire situations.

7. Written cooperative agreements with adjoining fire organizations/


agencies & communities.
Program Components

1. No Burn Policy: Fiber plantation development only uses


mechanical methods to prepare the land for
planting.

2. Fire Prevention & Community Based Fire Management,


Community Awareness: brochures, Fire Danger Rating signs.

3. Wildland People, tools, procedures, training, communications

Operational Objectives
1. Detection: All fires identified and reported before attaining
0.1 hectare in size.

2. Initial Attack: Fire suppression will begin within 2 hours of


receiving the fire detection report.

3. Containment: Fire growth will be contained within 48 hours of


initial attack.

4. Size: Maximum fire size will be less than 10 hectares.

Performance Target

“90% of all wildland fires will be less than or equal to 10 hectares”
