of Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee. I hereby invite you to take the most prestigious

COGNIZANCE 2013
Cognizance 2013 to be organized from 22 nd to 24th March is the annual technical festival of Indian Institute of
Technology, Roorkee with more than 150 events including professional workshops, exhibitions, international
conferences, large-scale competitions and online events taking place over 3 days. Cognizance is ISO 9001:2008
certified and operates a Quality Management System in organizing events of technical and management domain.
What makes it interesting as well as different is it being the biggest festival of North India with:
7 million web hits by 80,000 unique visitors from over a 100 different countries
12,400 On-Campus Participation from colleges across India.
CONTRIBUTION OF EARTHQUAKE ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT IN COGNIZANCE 2013

It is the only department of its kind in India and amongst a few in the world which actively involved in teaching and
training, research, development and consultancy work in four major fields Structural Dynamics, Soil Dynamics,
Engineering Seismology & Seismotectonics and Instrumentation. It has contributed very significantly in the field of
Earthquake Disaster Mitigation for the last 50 years. All these years, Earthquake Engineering Department always
had a dominant presence in Cognizance with more than Six big events including a guest lecture from a well known
personality. This year as well to continue the legacy, we have incorporated various technical as well as general
events in order to have an impactful performance in cognizance 2013.
The main highlights of the events are:
PROTOTYPE
Being the most awaited event of Earthquake Engineering Department in cognizance 2013, we introduce to
you SPOTLIGHT, where the participating teams will be LIVE testing their models of an earthquake
resistant water tank on the shake table for both static as well as dynamic loadings.
SPECTRUM
RESONANCE: It is an event which is organized to identify the best pool of talent in civil as well as
earthquake engineering discipline in the form of a brain storming technical quiz comprising of two rounds.
BRAINQUAKE: This is a techno managerial event in which the participants will be discovering their
business as well as their logical tactics to get good return and expansion of their firm by buying and selling
of their properties in developing a town as well as managing it smartly.
TREASURE HUNT: This is a walking trail in the campus starting at EARTHQUAKE ENGINEERING DEPT
looking for and solving puzzles with clues that will surely test your analytical, logical and visual skills with odd trivia
questions thrown in.
DEXTERS LAB: This is an event in which the participants will be exposed to our unique lab facilities in the
form of a lab demonstration and in the end their listening as well as observing skills will be tested in the
form of a quiz with questions related to lab demonstration with awaiting prizes.
GUEST LECTURE: We are also arranging for a guest lecture from a well known personality on one of the
very recent as well as controversial topic of the year.
The success of the events will depend on the generosity of our sponsors to help fulfill all the requirements and top
