    UNLOADING REMINGTON 870 & MOSSBERG 590 12 - GAUGE

    SHOTGUNS
    Unloading Remington Model 870 Shotgun
    To unload the firearm:
    1. Point the firearm in a safe direction.
    2. Engage the safety mechanism. RED BAND WILL NOT SHOW.
    3. Push upward on the action bar lock.
    4. Pull the fore-end SLOWLY rearward until the front of the shell is even with the ejection
    port.
    5. Lift the front of the shell outward and remove from the ejection port.
    6. Pull the fore-end fully rearward SLOWLY until the next shell is released from the
    magazine.
    7. Tip the firearm sideways to allow the shell to drop from the ejection port.
    8. Close and open the action SLOWLY until all shells are removed.
    WARNING! Look into the ejection port. Check the chamber and magazine again
    to make sure there are no shells in the firearm.

    Unloading Mossberg Model 590 Shotgun


    To unload the firearm:
    1. Move the safety button fully rearward to the ON (SAFE) position. RED DOT WILL NOT
    SHOW. During unloading, never allow fingers or any object to contact the trigger. Keep the muzzle
    pointed in a safe direction at all times.
    2. Depress the action lock lever and pull the forearm rearward SLOWLY, until the live shotshell is
    completely withdrawn and visible in the ejection port. Remove shotshell by hand.
    3. Continue pulling the forearm rearward SLOWLY to release the next shotshell onto the elevator.
    4. Turn the shotgun so that the ejection port faces downward to allow the released shotshell to drop
    out through the ejection port.
    5. Push the forearm completely forward, closing the bolt without a shell being chambered.
    6. Turn the shotgun over so that the trigger guard is positioned upward and the gun remains pointed in
    a safe direction.
    7. Insert your right thumb into the opening in the bottom of the receiver and depress the cartridge stop
    on the right side to release shotshells one at a time. Repeat until all shotshells are removed from the
    magazine tube.
    8. Depress the action lock lever and pull the forearm completely rearward.
    WARNING! Visually and physically inspect chamber, elevator and magazine tube again to
    insure that no shotshells remain in the shotgun.
    Leave the action in the open, rearward position and the safety button fully rearward in the ON
    (SAFE) position.

    WARNING
    DO NOT unload either shotgun by rapidly working the fore-end, causing the shotshells to be
    forcibly ejected. This causes undue wear and tear on both the firearm and the shotshells, and
    may cause the rim of the shotshells to be damaged, resulting in feeding and / or ejecting
    problems. In rare cases this has also resulted in an accidental discharge of the shotshell!!
