The passage discusses the Xuan Kong Purple White method of date selection and how it involves analyzing the configuration of stars across the year, month, day and time. It also provides some context and validation for this method from ancient Feng Shui texts.

The passage mentions that there are many methods of date selection in Feng Shui. The best option is to choose a method that suits one's personal system of Feng Shui.

To calculate the daily star, one needs to understand how the solar year is divided and then find a Chinese calendar to plot the daily stars. To calculate the hourly star, there is a provided shortcut method that involves determining the starting hourly star based on the animal day and season.

Purple White Date Selection Method

Even before I managed to complete editing this article I had numerous requests to
quickly publish this information that many students have been excitedly looking forward
to.
If you just joined us and did not manage to catch last months article on this, here is a
link to it:

After the article, I had a surge of e-mails with more questions on date selection. Some
asked me about the many methods of date selection. Others were more concerned about
which method was best and most accurate.
My answer to this would be that all methods are good depending on which system of
Feng Shui you personally specialize in. The best option is to choose a method of date
selection that best suits your system of Feng Shui.
One other question that frequently came up was is it so crucial to choose a proper
date.
Yes, of course. As mentioned in many classical texts, the secret in implementing any
Feng Shui is in the timing. Selecting a proper date is like the final combination falling
into place when opening a safe. You need it to activate the formation of your Feng Shui.
This is more so true when implementing changes that involve the annual #5 Yellow,
Tai Sui, Li Shi and San Sha as aggravating these areas can create unexpected, follow up
problems.
Xuan Kong Purple White is more of an action based date selection. Its feature and
strength is in its ability to help map out a problem and then offer a solution based on
human actions.
How I came to learn this system is in itself an interesting story. I had been in contact
with Master Lee from Hong Kong for many years and every time I would drop by we
would always meet up and chat. And each time he would be able to teach me only a little
bit, as time was always a factor. It was only after many, many visits (and much
persuasion) that he agreed to teach me this specialized method. This is indeed a precious
gem to me in my study of Feng Shui over the years and as I am sharing this with you, I
hope you will too will treasure it and understand how difficult it can be to get a hold of
such knowledge.
The Purple White Date comprises 4 key factors Year, Month, Day and Hour. Each is
governed by a Star. These stars move in sequence within the Luo Shu Grid over the 9
sectors.

Most of you will already know how to plot the Annual and Monthly stars, so I will
skip that and go directly to the Day and Hour stars.
In order to plot the day star, you need to understand that the Solar year is separated
between the Winter and Summer Solstice. These dates are roughly December 22 and June
21 respectively (there can be a variation of plus/minus one day).
You will need a copy of the 10 Thousand Year Calendar. The first Jia Zi Day after the
Winter Solstice is the #1 White Star. On this date, #1 White is in the Central Palace.
Subsequent days after the Winter Solstice move in an ascending order. The day after Jia
Zi is Yi Chou the star #2 Black. This is followed by Bing Yin #3 jade and Ding Mao #4
Green and so on.
This pattern continues all through until the Summer Solstice. Remember, the first Jia
Zi Day after the Summer Solstice is #9 Purple. On this day, the #9 has entered the Central
Palace.
The days following this assume the descending cycle. The day after the Jia Zi which is
Yi Chou has the star #8, with Bing Yin #7 and so forth. This continues till the Winter
Solstice at which point the whole cycle will begin again.
What you need to do now is find a Chinese Ten Thousand Year Calendar and plot out
the entire years daily Flying Stars. If you havent got one next to you, stop here and get
one before going any further.
Hourly Flying Stars
The most critical information in Purple White Date Selection is of course the hourly
star. To calculate the hourly star, I have a special short cut that I am going to share with
you.
After Winter Solstice:
Rat, Horse, Rabbit and Rooster days Zi Hour starts with the #1 White.
Four Graveyard Earth Days - Zi Hour starts with the #4 Green.
Four Stables/Growth Days - Zi Hour starts with the #7 Red.
After Summer Solstice
Rat, Horse, Rabbit and Rooster days - Zi hour starts with #9 White
Four Graveyard Earth Days - Zi Hour starts with #6 Green
Four Stables / Growth Days - Zi Hour starts with #3 Red
Remember this method and you will always be able to calculate the Xuan Kong
Purple White at the exact moment you want to forecast, analyze or predict.
Wisdom From the Sages

I know many of you must be having many questions at this point, one of the more
frequent ones I get asked is, is this actually something from the ancient classics and
handed down by the Masters or is this something you came up with on your own?
Grand Master Yang (Tang Dynasty) said in his famous Boa Jiu Jing
Thousand Matters, Ten Thousand Matters, Need
to seek Yearly White, Hundred Matters; Ten
Matters need to seek Monthly White
Grand Master Yangs student Tsang Mun Di said in Qing Nang Zui
Lu Arriving on Mountain Head denotes ushering
of Wealth, from the outside coming in, horse
arriving mountain head denotes ushering of
official post. Need to combine the 3 Whites
noblemen will be present and descendants will be
born, 6 White is Metal and is prosperous in
Autumn while the Purple Fire is powerful in
Spring and Summer, 1 8 Water Earth is useful in
Winter. When these are met, prosperous certain.
Here Tsang is talking about the proper selection of Purple White stars according to
seasons of timeliness. The selection of stars also needs to be based on the action that
the stars are selected for. This is merely reverse engineering based on the attributes of the
stars.
Those of you familiar with the ancient classics will know that Purple White Date
Selection is consistently discussed in many subsequent literatures following Grand
Master Yang and Tsangs time. These include the works of Jiang Da Hong, Zhang Zhun
Shan and Shen Ju Reng.
However, a key difference is the interpretations and applications of Purple White Date
Selection. Practitioners may always apply their techniques differently.
Each star represents ACTIONS. For example, the #9 Purple is also known as the
Official Advancement star. Activities involving new ventures, new plans and the launch
of any project is related to this star.
This star may be beneficial or harmful, depending on the activity on hand. The skill
lies in seeing the pattern in how these four layers (Year, Month, Day and Time) move
across the Luo Shu.
The event, date and time must match the configuration and fit the desired outcome. By
analyzing the Purple White Diagram, the outcomes, potentials, weaknesses and
problematic areas can be identified early on.

In my next article, I will introduce one method of applying this Xuan Kong Purple
White Date Selection, so keep an eye out for it next month.
