Ranger Coordinator
Background
Kanyirninpa Jukurrpa (KJ) is a Martu controlled organisation that is working to
build strong, sustainable communities founded on Martu culture and land.
KJ operates five Indigenous ranger teams as part of its land management
program. The broader program aims to realise Martu aspirations for getting
back to their traditional country, passing on their knowledge and culture to
younger generations and to actively work on country to make it healthy.
The ranger teams are generally funded by the Australian Governments
Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and
Communities (SEWPAC) under the Working on Country (WoC) Program.
Funding has been approved till 30 June 2018 after which it is expected that
funding will be on-going.
The WoC Program aims to provide environmental and employment outcomes
by engaging local Indigenous communities to manage their country.
Each permanent ranger team has a mix of full-time and part-time Indigenous
ranger positions with a total of 6 - 8 equivalent full time positions each
(including the ranger coordinator position).
We are currently in the process of seeking additional contracts that potentially
will allow the expansion of the program to establish additional ranger teams.
