Offshore Integrated Mooring

Trelleborg Marine Systems | Takes the pressure off

Integrated mooring systems

Trelleborg Marine Systems is dedicated to making
offshore oil and FLNG/FPSO/FSRU mooring
operations easier and safer. It is our goal to provide
the best systems available to operators so vessels
can be berthed quickly and efficiently. This shows
in our range of high quality products and systems
that are designed by our own team of engineers to
meet or exceed our clients demands. Our products
are especially in demand where mooring operations
are conducted in hazardous conditions, and the
quality and integrity of the equipment used cannot be
compromised.
Trelleborgs approach is unique in that all systems

Offshore mooring and docking system

Trelleborg Marine Systems has addressed the
shortcomings of conventional offshore GPS docking
aid systems by developing a specialised Offshore
Mooring and Docking System (OMADS) that uses
highly-accurate Real-time Kinematic (RTK) GPS
technology. RTK can provide a relative position
accuracy of 2.0 cm.
OMADS consists of two major components: a
permanent unit for the primary vessel and a portable
carry-on-board (COB) for the secondary vessel. The
primary vessel unit can be a rack-mounted multi-GPS/
telemetry unit with the capability of position and
attitude via RTK GPS, or a single receiver/telemetry
unit, where the vessels own gyro or IMU provides
the attitude indication. Survey-quality multi frequency
antennas are installed at pre-determined locations
around the superstructure.
The primary vessel communicates with the secondary
vessel system via a UHF telemetry link which has a
range of many nautical miles.
The COB is taken onboard the secondary vessel
and set up before the approach begins. It consists
of a self-contained, battery-powered system fitted
with dual RTK GPS receivers/antennas and UHF
telemetry. It has Wi-Fi 802.11g for communications
with the laptop that is used to present the approach
to the pilot or master. An integrated fibre-optic, high
resolution gyro provides accurate rate of turn in
addition to the heading and position calculated by the
GPS system.

An optional handheld display is available for use on

the vessel wing during docking.
During the approach and docking, the OMADS
software interprets the relative position information
from the RTK GPS and displays it on both the
primary and secondary vessel units in 2D or 3D
representation, and as a numeric display. This
enables the pilot or master to evaluate the progress
of the manoeuvre and make adjustments accordingly.
3D representation provides better definition of the
vessels relative positions.

SPM load monitoring system

Hawser load monitoring is especially critical when
vessels are moored via a single-point mooring (SPM)
arrangement to a CALM buoy or similar offshore
loading arrangement. Trelleborg Marine Systems
manufactures load monitoring systems to alert vessel
masters in the event the hawser tension becomes
too high or too low, enabling them to make a decision
about the safety of the mooring.
Load cells installed in one or more of the buoy
connector-plate pins provide real-time measurements.
Warnings of low, near high or high-high loads are
given via a light and siren installed on the buoy and/
or through telemetry to remote monitors. This may be
a portable monitor on the vessel or a base station
monitor at the facility. The system can be configured
for either single- or dual-leg hawsers and may be
retro-fitted to an existing assembly.
Other options that can be integrated with the SPM
load monitoring systems include:
Navigational aid operation and status
Product pressure and flow monitoring
GPS relative positioning between the vessel and
the buoy

Buoy-mounted Equipment
Load cell: installed in the tri-plate or pad eye, fits
most styles of new and existing CALM buoys.
Controller: contains the microprocessor, load cell
interface, data logger and telemetry equipment. The
controller is located on the deck within an explosionproof enclosure and double sealed within an outer
stainless steel enclosure that ensures the controller
is completely protected against the harsh environment
Telemetry: Trelleborg telemetry systems have a
reputation for reliability spanning 20 years. Hawser
loads and alarms are transmitted over telemetry in
real-time to portable pagers on the vessel or fixed
workstations onshore. The telemetry is UHF band
and incorporates inputs for the load cells, battery
monitoring and options such as line pressure,
navigation beacon photocell, anenometers and
temperature and humidity sensors.
Power supply: to operate the buoy equipment is from
deep-cycle batteries, which may be charged from
optional solar panels. The power is controlled by a
microprocessor to enable automatic load-shedding
and temperature compensation and to monitor the
charge status. The base station can interrogate the
power status remotely.

Fenders and fender deployment

As part of the complete offshore mooring package,
Trelleborg Marine Systems supplies both pneumatic
and foam-filled fenders and a davit system system for
deployment and storage. Fenders are used to provide
separation between vessels moored ship-to-ship
(STS) and to protect against impact when mooring
and unmooring. Trelleborg can supply primary and
secondary fenders of both the pneumatic and foamfilled types.
Trelleborg Pneumatic Fenders
Leveraging over 100 years of experience in rubber
technology, Trelleborg produces pneumatic fenders of
the highest quality. Tough and resilient, they exert very
low pressure on the vessels hulls whilst maintaining
large clearances in STS mooring. They are made in
both standard and high-pressure types in a wide range
of sizes with the larger sizes most commonly fitted
with a chain tyre net for increased protection.
SeaCushion Foam-filled Fenders
SeaCushion fenders are designed for hard work. The
superior grade of foam core, extra-tough skin and
chain tyre net make them the most rugged floating
fender on the market. SeaCushions are therefore
perfect for demanding operations such as open-water
STS mooring, offshore structures, shipyards and
military terminals. Foam-filled fenders will not deflate
or burst, which makes them virtually unsinkable, and
absolutely reliable. With hull pressures and reaction
pressures less than that of pneumatic fenders,
SeaCushions are also one of the most efficient
fenders available.
Fender Deployment System
Trelleborgs fender deployment system
(FDS) is a complete system to deploy,
retrieve and store fenders for use
in ship-to-ship (STS) mooring
applications. The system has
been designed to suit either the
Trelleborg pneumatic fenders or
Trelleborg Sea Cushion foam-filled
fenders.

The FDS has high levels of structural and electromechanical reliablity for the new generation of
FPSO and FLNG vessels. A typical system may
include four to six primary fender davits, two or
more secondary fender davits, a local davit control
console and an electro-hydraulic power unit to
provide system pressure and flow
to operate davits individually or
simultaneously. Davits can
be operated individually
or simultaneously and
an optional heave
compensation system
is available. The FDS is
compact enough to be
installed between the LNG
tanks and the vessel hull.

Hawser retrieval winches

Trelleborg Marine Systems developed both vertical and horizontal
hawser winches in response to demand for a better system
of handling tandem mooring hawsers. This innovative solution
delivers new efficiencies for FSO operators. It provides a method of
deploying, retrieving and storing the hawser chafe chain assembly
and reduces hawser damage since the hawser is stored on the
winch rather than left floating in the sea or stored loosely on the
deck.
Vertical Hawser Retrieval Winch
Deployment time is reduced because the winch has an integrated
quick release hawser hook, so the hawser is always connected. The
hawser is paid out and connected to the shuttle vessel without
any need to handle the chafe chain at the F(P)SO. The vertical
format has a smaller deck footprint than equivalent horizontal
winches and minimal strengthening is needed for the
unit to be installed.
A typical installation would include:
Winch with built-in hawser guide rail
Local control console with joystick controller
Hydraulic power pack
Remote display unit for displaying load alarms,
hook status and load monitoring, and for triggering
the emergency release function

Horizontal Retrieval Winches

Trelleborg manufactures two types of horizontal winch:
single-drum and sectional-drum. On both, the hawser
hook is installed on an independent mounting, but is
designed to work with the winch to provide a complete
solution for deploying and securing the mooring.
With a single-drum winch, the chafe chains and chain
buoy are stored outboard of the chock. By attaching
the pick-up rope half way along the hawser, the hawser
can be doubled over and winched on board. The chain
and buoy are left outboard and ready for the next
hawser deployment.
Sectional drum winches are supplied with a three- or
four-section drum that provides separate storage for
the chafe chains, hawser and pick-up rope.

Hose Reel for Tandem Offloading

Trelleborg Marine Systems developed an
hose reel for Tandem Offloading Operation
to provide a complete offloading system
(i.e. Quick Release Hawser Hook with Load
Monitoring, Hawser and Hawser Reel, Hose
and Hose Reel. This approach offers FPSO
contractors and owners an Integraded
Offloading System from a single source,
limiting the risk of integration issues.
A typical solution offers:
Up to 340m of 20 Hose Drum Storage
Compact size
Spooling Device
Common HPU for Hawser and Hose Reel
Access Platforms for easy maintenance
Emergency Reel Drive
Hose Load monitoring
Designed to OCIMF Guidelines and
classification society rules
Common control panel for Hose Reel,
Hawser Reel and Hawser Hook.
