1. LOAD TEST ON D.C. SHUNT MOTOR


AIM:
To draw the performance characteristics of the D.C. shunt motor by conducting
load test.

NAME PLATE DETAILS:

FUSE CALCULATION:
Fuse Rating = 125% of rated Armature current.

PROCEDURE:

The connections are made as per the circuit diagram.


The DPST switch is closed.
The motor is started using three point starter.
The field rheostat of the motor is adjusted to bring the motor speed to the rated
value.
The no load current, voltage, shunt field current, spring balance reading and speed
are noted.
Load on the brake drum arrangement is increased in steps.
At each step of loading all the meter readings are noted.
The procedure is repeated till the ammeter reads the rated load current of the
motor.

PRECAUTION:
The field rheostat should be kept at minimum resistance position.

PROCEDURE:

By varying the field rheostat of the motor, the speed of the motor, is adjusted
to the rated speed of the generator.
The potential divider of the generator is varied in steps.
In each step the ammeter and voltmeter readings are noted.
The procedure is repeated till the voltmeter reads the rated voltage.

At each step of loading all the meter readings are noted.
The procedure is repeated till the ammeter reads the rated current of the
generator.

AIM:

Add the load in steps and note down all the meter reading till the rated secondary
current is reached.
Remove the load and bring back the auto transformer to original position.
Switch off the supply.

OC TEST:
PRECAUTION:
Auto transformer must be kept in minimum position.
Secondary side should be open. (High voltage winding)
PROCEDURE:
Make the connections as per the circuit diagram.
Switch on the supply, vary the auto transformer to get rated primary voltage.
(Low voltage winding)
Note down the no load readings of voltmeter, ammeter and wattmeter.
Bring the auto transformer to minimum position and Switch off the supply.

8. REGULATION OF 3 PHASE ALTERNATOR BY EMF METHOD

To determine the voltage regulation of an 3 phase alternator EMF method.

Initially all switches are in open position.

PROCEDURE:
OC & SC TEST:
Connections are given as per circuit diagram.
Observe the precautions, switch ON the DC supply.
Using three point starter, start run at the synchronous speed by varying field
rheostat of the motor.
Conduct the open circuit test by adjusting the alternator field rheostat from
maximum to minimum position voltage is generated in the alternator with
respect to field current.
The readings are noted until the voltage equal to 125% of rated voltage.
Conduct the short circuit test by closing the TPST switch and adjust the
alternator rheostat to set the armature current, tabulate the corresponding field
current.
Conduct a stator resistance test by giving connection as per the circuit diagram
and tabulate the voltage and current readings for various resistive loads.

PROCEDURE:
OC & SC TEST:
Connections are given as per circuit diagram.
Observe the precautions, switch ON the DC supply.
Using three point starter, start run at the synchronous speed by varying field
rheostat of the motor.
Conduct the open circuit test by adjusting the alternator field rheostat from
maximum to minimum position voltage is generated in the alternator with
respect to field current.
The readings are noted until the voltage equal to 125% of rated voltage.
Conduct the short circuit test by closing the TPST switch and adjust the
alternator rheostat to set the armature current, tabulate the corresponding field
current.
Conduct a stator resistance test by giving connection as per the circuit diagram
and tabulate the voltage and current readings for various resistive loads.

PRECAUTIONS:
Before switching ON the supply,
The triple pole switch must be kept open.
The handle of the star delta starter must be kept at off position.

The motor should be starter with no load.

PROCEDURE:

The connections were given as per the circuit diagram.


Observe the precautions and switch ON the AC supply.
The TPST switch is closed and the motor is started using the star-delta starter and
the no load readings are noted down from the voltmeter, ammeter, speed and
wattmeter.
The load was adjusted in steps for various motor load currents from no load to full
load current and the corresponding readings were noted down.
Release the load and observe the precautions and switch OFF the supply.
