Masthead
The mast head is the NME logo which appears on every
magazine. Its bold and stands out clearly as it is always found in the same place which makes it easily recognisable to the audience. The font is bold and quite formal which shows that it is aimed at a late teen/adult age range. The colour red is a neutral colour which appeal to both genders and so it is a multi-gender magazine.
Main image The main image is of the lead singer of Oasis which is what is featuring in the magazine. The model looks very casual holding a cup of tea and a plate, this is portraying a relaxed feeling within the magazine and to the audience. His direct gaze with the audience draws them in as we automatically meet eye to eye, this is found on a lot of magazines. His bright white shirt contrasts with the red background again making him stand out from everything else.
Buzz/Puff words The buzzword on this magazine is letting us know of the opportunity to win signed oasis artwork. We know this will appeal to buyers of this magazine as they are obviously interested in oasis due to the front cover. Design This magazine has used both serif font and a sans serif font. The model on the front covers name and the pull quote is in serif font along with the archive special about John Lennon This makes the magazine look a little bit more formal and it also makes the text stand out more which is good because it is clear to the audience who the model is and also allows us to see that there will be a double page spread within the magazine about the model and his band. However the Masthead and sub-headings are Sans serif which makes it look formal. Most of the text is in capital letters including the masthead, demonstrating that all of the magazines content is important. Colour The colours in this magazine are mainly red, yellow and blue which are colours that would appeal to both genders. They are bright, bold and eye-catching which immediately attracts the audience. The colour red represents danger and love, which fits in with this magazine as its a magazine mainly aimed at rock music which some people may perceive as dangerous. Size of the text The size of the text is quite large which means that the audience would be able to read the main parts e.g Masthead from a distance which makes the magazine easily recognisable which draws the audience in from a distance. However the cover story is a larger font than the Masthead which isnt something you would typically see on a magazine but the producers obviously feel that their audience is committed enough to know the Masthead off by heart. Overall Impression I really like this magazine front ocver as I think its clear for the audience to see what is inside the magazine which os one of the main things that attracts a buyer as they want to make sure its value for money. Due to the model being in his 40s in an old band I would say that this magazines main audience would be adults rather than children, a child wouldnt want to know about gigs and/or concerts typically. I feel like this magazine wouldnt appeal to children as the text is quite formal and we can tell by the front cover that there is going to be a lot of text inside whereas a child would want to see more pictures.
