WELCOME FROM THE

SUPERINTENDENT
Dear Kirkwood School District Residents:
Welcome to the Kirkwood School District. We
are blessed to have a generous community who
supports our work through projects such as this
School Directory, which is produced in partnership
with the Webster-Kirkwood Times and our local
business community. Every community member is
a true partner in the important job of educating
our children. Our public schools belong to the
whole community and we invite you to participate
and to get involved.
We take pride in knowing that every community member plays an important role in our District and we encourage you to
volunteer at your neighborhood school, attend one of our many events including performances of our award winning fine arts programs or one of our many
athletic events showcasing our talented students. If you are a senior citizen,
please contact us about our Golden Pass, which allows you to attend most
events free of charge.
We are very proud of our tradition of excellence and high student achievement. The District has been named a Missouri School of Distinction for academic performance each year since 2001. Kirkwood seniors graduating in 2014
had an average ACT composite test score of 24, which ranks among the top ten
in the state of Missouri. The U.S. News and World Report 2014 Best High
Schools list ranked Kirkwood High School in the top 5 for College Prep curriculum in Missouri. The class of 2014 had a 98.7% graduation rate, the highest
in school history.
We invite you to visit the schools to see the many renovation projects and
additions to our buildings that have been completed as part of the Districts
master facilities plan. We are excited about the recent gift of $10 million from
the Walker Foundation to build an indoor competitive swimming pool at
Kirkwood High School. The Walker Natatorium will be one of the most modern and well equipped aquatic facilities in the St. Louis area. Work on E.L. Lyons
Memorial Stadium will be completed for the start of the 2014 Pioneer Pride
Marching Band and football & soccer seasons. The new handicapped accessible
home bleachers, media rooms, restrooms and lighted walkway will showcase the
KHS campus. The renovated Band, Journalism and Atlas classrooms at KHS are
also nearing completion. The renovations will provide additional space, storage
and modern facilities for these award winning programs. The District will complete a K-12 iPad initiative in the fall of 2014. Students will use iPads at school
and at home as the District implements this innovative approach to maximize
learning through technology.
We look forward to the start of a new school year on Tuesday, August 19,
2014. The education of our children is our top priority and we invite you to join
us as partners in this important task. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Tom Williams, Superintendent

The Kirkwood School District phone and voice mail system is part of the overall technology network. Callers are asked to listen to a menu
of options directing them to individual schools or district offices. Each classroom has a telephone and extension number. Parents can phone a
classroom directly to hear homework assignments or to leave messages for the teacher. This directory includes the more frequently requested
numbers. Please note, the designation vm refers to voice mail extensions that only allow the caller to hear or leave a message.

ABOUT THE SCHOOL BOARD

The Kirkwood School District Board of Education, the teaching and
support staffs, parents and community share responsibility for creating
successful schools. As elected representatives, the seven-member Board of
Education serves as the governing body for the communitys public school
system. The school board sets District policies, selects the superintendent
of schools, adopts the annual budget, and determines the tax rate.
Community participation at board meetings is encouraged, and a forum
for public comment is provided at the beginning of each meeting.
The annual school board election is held in April. Board members serve
three-year, overlapping terms with two or three members elected each
year. School board members, who receive no salary, are committed and
concerned citizens who devote countless hours working on behalf of children and the educational interests of Kirkwood School District residents.
SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS
School board meetings are generally held the first and third Monday
of each month during the school year and monthly during the summer.
Meetings are held in the conference room of the Districts Administrative

... Susan had the professionalism and resources we were

looking for in a Realtor. She always had our best interest in
mind and made sure she provided constant communication.
I have recommended her to several friends.
... Selling a home is an emotional experience all around.
Susan Steiner used her expertise of the area and fluctuation of
the market to successfully find the perfect buyer for our home
in an amazingly short amount of time.

... We consider ourselves very fortunate to be in our dream

house, in this school district, and we are very grateful to Kathy
for patiently helping us find it!
... We highly recommend anyone looking for an excellent
realtor and a special caring person to call Kathy Hartrich.
... Kathys knowledge of the area, the schools, and this
challenging real estate market made the home

The KSD will be celebrating the 150th anniversary of the

District over the next two school years. On Saturday, Sept. 27 at
2 p.m., the entire community is welcome to come together to
take a 150th anniversary photo on the field in the E.L. Lyons
Memorial Stadium on the KHS campus.
After the photo is snapped, the group will try to break the
Guinness World Record for having the most people pat their
heads and rub their tummies at the same time. The District is
calling the event The Great Pat Rub and would like to have
over 2,000 people in attendance for the photo and attempt at
breaking the record.
Other items tentatively planned to celebrate the
sesquicentennial include a family fun run, a community
celebration at the high school and memorabilia items for sale
including a pictorial history book.

Whats standing in your way?

We all have times when we need a little extra help. Lets work together to:
make peace with the past

create motivation for lasting change

achieve balance and wholeness

experience joy, hope and self-reliance

live with intentionand thrive!

SCHOOL HISTORY:
Kirkwood High School (KHS) has a long,
rich history that dates back to the founding
of the Kirkwood School District in 1865.
High school and elementary students attended school together in a temporary building,
which opened in the fall of 1866, and later in
the Jefferson Avenue School, the Districts
first formal school built in 1869. AfricanAmerican students attended the Booker T.
Washington School, which opened in 1869
on Adams near Geyer Road. In 1888, the
District built the Adams Avenue School net
to the Jefferson School and offered a twoyear high school program for students completing the elementary grades. In 1896,
Kirkwood offered the first four-year high
school program in St. Louis County; 10 students were members of the first graduating
class in the spring of 1897. In 1922, a new
high school was built on Kirkwood Road, the
site of Nipher Middle School today.
The present Kirkwood High School on
Essex Ave. was built in 1955 on a 43-acre
campus. Both white and African-American
students were enrolled to attend high school
together for the first time. The campus
includes the Thomas N. Keating Performance
Center, a fine arts complex that features an

GOLDEN PASS
PROGRAM FOR
RESIDENTS
The District invites residents of the
Kirkwood School District, age 60 or older, to
carry the KSD Golden Pass. As valued members of the KSD community, older adults are
encouraged to visit the schools often and
enjoy the variety of sports, theatrical and
musical events per-formed by students.
Please call the Office of Community
Relations and Development, 314-213-2102,
to obtain a pass.

821-seat theatre; band, art and vocal music

classrooms; and the privately funded Walker
Commons. The campus also includes the Earl
and Myrtle Walker Science Center, a state-ofthe-art science facility that was dedicated in
2007. In addition to taxpayer support of the
2005 bond issue to fund the new science
center, private donors contributed to equipping the science classrooms through the
Pioneering the Advancement of Science
campaign conducted by the Kirkwood
School District Foundation.
In the spring of 2014, updates to the
journalism and band classroom spaces
began. The journalism and band spaces were
last renovated in 1995. The renovations
include updated technology and increased
square footage. The renovations also include
the high schools Atlas program, which offers
credit recovery classes to students.
A new physical education and sports center was completed in fall 2008. The center
features two competitive gyms (Denver
Miller Gym and the David Holley Assembly
Hall) the David Damerall Fitness Center, a
dance studio, health classrooms, wrestling
room and staff offices. With support from
citizens and private donors through the

Kirkwood School District Foundation, a new

track and synthetic turf were installed in KHS
E.L. Lyons Memorial Stadium and ready for
school and community use in October 2010.
In spring 2012, the new track was dedicated
as the Alvin Miller Track in honor of the 1983
KHS graduate, who is regarded as the best
athlete in school history. In the fall of 2014,
renovations to the stadium bleachers will be
completed; the renovations include accessibility for the physically challenged, new
restrooms, concession and broadcast center.
In April, the trustees representing the Earl
E. and Myrtle E. Walker Foundation
announced a $10 million grant agreement to
provide funds to build a 25-yard stretch pool
on the campus of Kirkwood High School.
The Walker Natatorium will be a 12-month
facility, enabling the District to add water
safety curriculum to physical education, and
the KHS swim and dive and water polo teams
will have a place to train and compete on
campus. The Walker Natatorium is scheduled
to be completed in the fall of 2015.
KHS welcomes the incoming Class of
2018 to an exciting learning community of
committed students and staff. Go Pioneers!

Students in the Kirkwood School District

Benefit from Support of
Strong Community Partnerships

In April, trustees representing the Earl E. and Myrtle E. Walker Foundation made the announcement to KHS students that
the Walker Foundation established a $10 million grant to build a competitive pool on the campus of KHS. Pictured above are
Brian Humes and Nance (Walker) Frost, trustees of the Walker Foundation; KHS student athletes; District and high school
staff members; members of the KSD Board of Education; and representatives of the Kirkwood School District Foundation.

In April, the District announced a

$10 million grant agreement with
the Earl E. and Myrtle E. Walker
Foundation. The grant provides
funds to build a 25-yard stretch
pool on the campus of Kirkwood
High School. The Walker
Natatorium will be a 12-month
facility, enabling the District to
add water safety curriculum to
physical education, and the KHS
swim and dive and water polo
teams will have a place to train and
compete on campus. The skills
learned in The Walker Natatorium

will help students maintain a

healthy lifestyle for years to come.
A moveable bulkhead will be
installed so that swimming and
diving can occur simultaneously
and ensure all-deep water for water
polo. The depth of the pool will
be 4 feet to 12 feet six inches.
Construction will start this
summer, and should be completed
by the start of the 2015-16 school
year.
The Earl E. and Myrtle E. Walker
Foundation has continuously led

fundraising efforts to benefit

students of Kirkwood High School,
and this is another example of its
commitment to the children in
our community.
The Kirkwood School District
Foundation (KSDF) will join the
school community to establish
an endowment for The Walker
Natatorium in order to ensure the
facility is pristine for generations
of Pioneers. To get involved in
the fundraising efforts call the
KSDF office at 314.213.6123.

SCHOOL INFORMATION

School History:
In August 2010, the Kirkwood School District
partnered with the Webster Groves School
District to provide VISTA, a new student
program offered in the Hough Learning Center.
VISTA serves approximately 125 high school
students from Kirkwood and Webster Groves who
need assistance with credit recovery or obtaining a
diploma in an alternative setting. The VISTA
program replaces the Collaborative School program
that was previously offered through a partnership
with Kirkwood, Brentwood, Clayton and Ladue
school districts.
VISTA provides a productive, consistent, and

safe non-traditional community for high school

students. Given the unique needs of our
students, VISTA is relationship based
programming with individual learning
experiences that develop the potential of every
student.
Not all students attain full success at their
home schools. It is the Districts goal to provide
all students the academic and/or social and
emotional support they need in order to succeed.
The VISTA staff members take pride in knowing
every student on a personal level, valuing and
treating each one as an individual, and placing

each student at the center of all decisions.

Students are accepted into VISTA by a
referral process beginning at the students
home school. Referrals are made for a variety of
reasons that may include credit recovery,
individualized instruction, alternative setting,
social or emotional concerns, school to work
transition or diploma completion. Students
retain enrollment at their home school while
attending VISTA even though they may not
have courses on the home school campus. The
goal of VISTA is that students will return to their
home school as soon as possible.

School History:
The Nipher Middle School building was built in 1921
and officially opened in September 1922 as Kirkwood High
School, the communitys new high school. Before its
construction, secondary students attended school with
elementary-age children in one of the districts first
buildings, a four-room brick school built in 1869 at Adams
and Jefferson. A few years after KHS opened on Kirkwood
Road, a separate south building was built in 1929 to house
seventh and eighth grade students in a junior high school.
Following the tradition of naming public schools for
outstanding community citizens, the Board of Education
chose to the name the junior high school in honor of Dr.
Francis E. Nipher, who had been a distinguished educator
and professor at Washington University in St. Louis. The
north building housed Kirkwood High School until its
move in 1954 to its present location on Essex Ave.
During reorganization in 1976, Nipher Junior High

School became Nipher Middle School to house Grades 6

through 8 with Grade 9 moving to Kirkwood High School.
Renovations resulting from a 1993 tax/bond issue
included construction of a two-story addition in the front
of the building to house a new library/media center,
computer labs, classrooms, the main school and counselors
offices as well as technology and other building
improvements. In 2005, a two-part bond initiative funded
infrastructure improvements at the school.
In November 2010, the KSD community
overwhelmingly approved Proposition 1, a $33.5 million
bond issue to support the districts master facilities plan.
Prop 1 renovations at Nipher included the construction
of a three-story addition to house six state-of-the-art
science classrooms. The new science facility opened for
students in the 2012-13 school year. In the summer of
2013, front entrance renovations occurred to improve

building security.
The Nipher building is a designated historical landmark

with incredible parent and community involvement and
support, have created an exceptional learning community.
Our school is nationally recognized as a Blue Ribbon School
and a Missouri Gold Star School. NKMS has also been named
a Champions for Character award winner for incorporating
service learning throughout our school. Most recently, the
Missouri School-Wide Positive Behavior Support (SW-PBS)
program recognized NKMS as a Bronze Level Award winner.
This award was earned as a result of the many positive
behaviors and excellent character demonstrated by our

outstanding students.
In an effort to communicate effectively with our parent/

North Kirkwood Middle School has a school-wide focus
on literacy in all content areas by embedding effective
reading, writing, communication, problem finding/solving
and critical thinking skills and strategies in every class period.
It is our goal as a school to make sure students are not only
prepared to live in our world today, but that we help engrain
the skills they will need for a future we cannot yet imagine.
We are looking forward to our continued growth and
another fantastic school year!

School History:

North Kirkwood Middle School (NKMS) was built in 1957

as a junior high school for students in Grades 7, 8 and 9. In
1976, the District began a reorganization of school grade
levels and the junior high school became a middle school for
Grades 6 through 8 with Grade 9 students moving to
Kirkwood High School.
As a result of a tax/bond issue in 1993, a building addition
connecting the east and west buildings was completed in
1995 to house the new library/media center, seven classrooms
and three computer labs. In 2005, a two-part bond initiative
funded infrastructure improvement at NKMS.
In November 2010, the KSD community overwhelmingly
approved Proposition 1, a $33.5 million bond issue to support
the districts master facilities plan. Prop 1 improvements at
NKMS included construction of a new addition on the west

School History:

The state of Missouri recognized North Glendale as a

Gold Star School in 2014. North Glendale Elementary
School opened in the fall of 1938. Two years later the north
and south wings were added. In 1964, the south addition
was constructed and the gym was rebuilt, moving the
school office to its present location in the center of the
building. Renovations resulting from a tax/bond issue in
1993 included technology and building infrastructure
improvements. In 2005, a two-part bond initiative funded
infrastructure improvements at North Glendale. In spring
2008, the school dedicated a new outdoor learning pavilion
in honor of Tom Waltz, former principal who retired in 2006.
The pavilion was made possible through a grant submitted
by the city of Glendale, KSD and North Glendale PTO.
In November 2010, the KSD community overwhelmingly
approved Proposition 1, a $33.5 million bond issue to

support the Districts master facilities plan. Prop 1 is funding

improvements to North Glendale that include the
construction of a 30,000 sq. ft. three-story addition
consisting of classrooms, a gymnasium and a cafeteria as
well as site safety and traffic flow improvements. The cost of
the North Glendale improvements is approximately $6.3
million. Work on the project began in June 2010 and was
completed in the fall of 2012. North Glendale welcomed all
its kindergarten students to their home school in August
2012. In 2013, a new library was created in the old
gymnasium area, and the former library was converted into
approximately 2300 square foot of additional classroom
space.
The school often serves as a community focus for its
namesake city of Glendale. The school and the city have

combining resources to benefit children and instruction. In

2010, the Kirkwood School District, North Glendale PTO,

North Glendale School is proud to be a school where
teachers and support staff are dedicated to doing what is

and staff honor this school pledge daily: As a learner at
North Glendale I will be: cooperative, respectful, responsible,

This staff also provides outreach services to our community early
education partners.
The dedicated staff is committed to providing a nurturing
and inclusive, yet challenging learning environment for young
children throughout the various programs offered at the center.
KECC is proud of the longevity of its highly qualified staff

members who engage in a minimum of 15 hours of professional

development annually. KECC has received recognition for being a
Positive Behavior Support award-winning school for eight
consecutive years. The center is a member of the St. Louis
Association for Education of Young Children (SLYAEC), the Child
Day Care Association, Missouri Board of Voluntary Accreditation
and a participant in the USDA Food Program. KECC also offers
tuition scholarships for families receiving Title XX funding.
The Parents as Teachers program offers information about
early childhood development and support for expectant parents
and parents of children from birth until kindergarten eligibility
age. PAT is free and voluntary and open to all parents in the
Kirkwood School District. In 2013-14, PAT provided services to
approximately 516 Kirkwood families.
The PAT program offers a variety of services designed to help
all children receive the best possible start in life. These programs
include home visits conducted by an early childhood specialist;
group connections on childhood topics such as discipline, toilet
teaching, sleep issues and sibling rivalry; community resources for
parents and children; and screenings for hearing, vision, health,
and overall development.

FAMILY EDUCATIONAL RIGHTS AND PRIVACY ACT (FERPA)

Annual Notification/Student Records
The protection of student rights has always been a
top priority of the Kirkwood School District. This
document is distributed annually to all parents and
students in order to comply with state and federal
requirements to notify the parents/guardians and eligible students of their rights with respect to the students educational records.
In general, a students educational record includes
any information maintained by the school district,
which contains information directly related to a student. A major exception would be a personal record
kept by a staff member if it is kept in the sole possession of the maker of the record and is not accessible or
revealed to any other person except a temporary substitute for the maker of the record.
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act
(FERPA) affords parents and students over 18 years of
age certain rights with respect to the students education records. These rights are:
1. The right to inspect and review the students
education records. Parents or eligible students should
submit to the school principal a written request that
identifies, as precisely as possible, the record(s) they
wish to inspect. The school official will make arrangements for access and notify the parent or eligible student of the time and place where the records may be
inspected.
2. The right to request the amendment of the
students education records that the parent or eligible
student believes are inaccurate or misleading. Parents
or eligible students may ask the school to amend a
record that they believe is inaccurate or misleading or
in violation of the students privacy. They should write
the principal or appropriate official, clearly identify the
part of the record they want to change and specify
why it is inaccurate or misleading. If the school
decides not to amend the record as requested by the
parent or eligible student, the school will notify the
parent or eligible student of the decision and advise
them of their right to a hearing regarding the request
for amendment.
3. The right to consent to disclosure of personally
identifiable information contained in the students
education records except to the extent that FERPA

authorizes disclosure without consent. One exception,

which permits disclosure without consent, is disclosure
to school officials with legitimate educational interests.
A school official is a person employed by the school as
an administrator, supervisor, instructor, or support staff
member; a person serving on the School Board; a
person or company with whom the school has contracted to perform a special task; or a parent or student serving on an official committee, such as a disciplinary or grievance committee, or assisting another
school official in performing his or her tasks. A school
official has a legitimate educational interest if the official needs to review an education record in order to
fulfill his or her professional responsibility. Upon
request, the school discloses education records without consent to officials of another student district in
which a student seeks or intends to enroll.
4. The right to file a complaint with the U.S.
Department of Education concerning alleged failures
by the school with the requirements of FERPA. The
name and address of the office that administers FERPA
is the Family Policy Compliance Office U.S. Department
of Education, 400 Maryland Avenue, SW, Washington,
DC 20202-4605.
5. Directory Information may be released by
school officials. This includes print and electronic
publications of the school district that, if disclosed,
would not be considered as determined by the
Kirkwood School District as harmful or an invasion of
privacy. This information may be released without
prior written consent to parent and student organizations for marketing purposes; such as for buzz books
produced in the fall, and to outside organizations
including, but not limited to, companies that manufacture class rings or publish yearbooks in the spring.
In addition two federal laws require local educational
agencies (LEAs) receiving assistance under the
Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965
(ESEA) to provide military recruiters, upon request,
with three directory information categories names
addresses and telephone listings unless parents have
advised the LEA that they do not want their students
information disclosed without their prior written consent. Such information is also considered a public

record which must be released upon demand to any

person who requests it, under the Missouri Sunshine
Law. If a parent, guardian, person acting as a students
parent in absence of a parent or guardian, or the student (if 18 or older), does not want the district to
release the information listed below, they must notify
the district in writing within 10 days of receiving this
notification of the information they do not want
released.
The following Directory Information may be
released without obtaining parental consent:
Students name, parents name, address, telephone number, electronic mail address, date and place
of birth, grade level, major field of study, enrollment
status, participation in officially recognized activities
and sports, photographs, weight and height of members of the athletic teams, dates of attendance,
degrees, honors, awards received, most recent previous school attended.
The district has determined that the Voluntary
Interdistrict Choice Corporation (VICC) and its officers,
employees and agents are school officials with legitimate educational interests because they act for and on
behalf of the district with respect to transfer students
and the transfer program, and because they seek to
advance the interest of both. A transfer students
attendance records and other educational records relevant to the students participation in the program or
to the program itself may accordingly be disclosed to
VICC without obtaining written consent from the parent/guardian or eligible student.
The Executive Director of Student Services has
district-wide responsibility for student educational
records and, as such, is the custodian of the records.
Anyone having questions regarding school policy
relating to student records is welcome to contact the
Executive Director of Student Services at:

SSD PUBLIC NOTICE

All responsible public agencies are required to
locate, evaluate, and identify children with disabilities
who are under the jurisdiction of the agency, regardless of the severity of the disability, including children
attending private schools, children who live outside
the district but are attending a private school within
the district, highly mobile children, such as migrant
and homeless children, children who are wards of the
state, and children who are suspected of having a disability and in need of special education even though
they are advancing from grade to grade. The Kirkwood
School District assures that it will provide a free,
appropriate public education (FAPE) to all eligible
children with disabilities between the ages of 3 and 5
under its jurisdiction. The Special School District of St.
Louis County (SSD) assures that it will provide a free,
appropriate public education (FAPE) to all eligible
children with disabilities between the ages of 5 and 21
under its jurisdiction. Disabilities include autism, deaf/
blindness, emotional disorders, hearing impairment
and deafness, intellectual disability, multiple disabili-

ties, orthopedic impairment, other health impairments, specific learning disabilities, speech or language impairment, traumatic brain injury, visual
impairment/blindness and young child with a developmental delay.
The Special School District of St. Louis County
(SSD) and the Kirkwood School District assure that
they will provide information and referral services
necessary to assist the State in the implementation of
early intervention services for infants and toddlers eligible for the Missouri First Steps program.
The Special School District of St. Louis County
(SSD) and the Kirkwood School District assure that
personally identifiable information collected, used, or
maintained by the agency for the purposes of identification, evaluation, placement or provision of FAPE of
children with disabilities may be inspected and/or
reviewed by their parents/guardians. Parents/guardians may request amendment to the educational
record if the parent/guardian believes the record is
inaccurate, misleading, or violates the privacy or other

rights of their child. Parents have the right to file complaints with the U.S. Department of Education or the
Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary
Education concerning alleged failures by the district to
meet the requirements of the Family Educational
Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
The Special School District of St. Louis County
(SSD) and the Kirkwood School District have developed a Local Compliance Plan for the implementation
of State Regulations for the Individuals with Disabilities
Education Act (IDEA). This plan contains the agencys
policies and procedures regarding storage, disclosure
to third parties, retention and destruction of personally identifiable information and the agencys assurances that services are provided in compliance with
the General Education Provision Act (GEPA). These
plans may be reviewed at the Special School District
of St. Louis County (SSD) or the Kirkwood Central
Office during regular school hours on days school is in
session. This notice will be provided in native languages
as appropriate.

SPECIAL EDUCATION PARENT ADVISORY COUNCIL

The Kirkwood Special Education Parent
Advisory Council (PAC) was developed to provide
professional and supportive connections among
parents and school staff who share an interest in
promoting the education of children with disabilities. Each school has several parents who

represent their school on the district-level PAC.

These parents also work with their schools to support families of students with special needs.
Kirkwoods district-level PAC meets several times
each year to share information and seek input
from parents on district planning for special edu-

cation and related supports for students. These

meetings are open to everyone and are listed on
the Special Programs Website and in the Parent
Handbook and Buzz Book each year.

VOLUNTEER & COMMUNITY MENTOR PROGRAMS

Kirkwood School District parents and community volunteers have long contributed to
making Kirkwood schools the best learning
environments for children by donating their
time and talents in a variety of ways. Volunteers
assist classroom teachers, work with individual
students, perform clerical duties, plant shrubs
and flowers, or help school nurses and librarians.
In addition to the committed volunteers
from each schools PTO, other adults impact
students lives through several mentor/role

model programs. Kirkwood Community

Mentors seeks adults in our community who will
serve as role models and provide positive supports to students at all grade levels. Helping
students establish positive goals and improve
their academic performance takes no more than
60 minutes of your time a week. For more information on how to become a Kirkwood
Community Mentor, please contact Nelson

OASIS (Older Adults Service Information
System) is a national organization that provides

financial support and resources to train tutors.
