Trans Basic Operation:
The 4L60 (700-R4) is a RWD 4
speed unit with TCC. Shift delay, shift
feel, and pressure control are all
controlled by the TV cable.
Upshift signal is supplied by output
shaft driven governor.
TCC is electrically controlled
through use of a solenoid.
Many models also have pressure
switches mounted on the valve body
that are used for TCC functions and
ECM feedback information.
There are many variations of electri-
cal control systems used over the
years of production for TCC func-
tions.
Originally named the 700-R4, it was
designated the 4L60 with the new ID
format.

beginning of the 1987 model production.
