1. ABOUTTHEINSTITUTE
Shri G. S. Institute of Technology and Science (SGSITS), Indore, was

established in 1952 as a Technical institute offering Licentiate and diploma
coursesinengineeringandwasknownasShriGovindramSeksariaKalaBhavan.
ThisInstitutecameintobeingasaresultofthekeendesireexpressedbythethen
PrimeMinisterPanditJawaharlalNehrutoagroupofleadingIndustrialistsofthe
town for establishment of a Technical Institute. An eminent Industrialist of the
town, Seth Shri Kudilalji Seksaria, responded by generously donating the initial
amount for starting the Institution in the name of his father late Seth Shri
Govindram Seksaria. In 1956, it was converted in to a Degree college with the
course in Civil Engineering and its name was changed to Shri G. S. Technological
Institute,Indore.Subsequently,withtheintroductionofM.Sc.coursesinApplied
Sciences,thenameoftheInstitutewaschangedtoitspresentnametoreflectthe
broadnewperspective.
SGSITS is recognized as a leading Institute in the state of Madhya Pradesh
and the Western Region consistently during its glorious journey of sixty years. It
has beenrankedamongtop3040instituteson Nationallevel(includingIITsand
NITs)byvarioussurveysconductedbyindependentbodies.Furtherlookingtoits
credentials,AllIndiacouncilforTechnicalEducation(AICTE)andUniversityGrants
Commission(UGC),NewDelhi,hasdeclaredtheInstituteasautonomousin1989.
Under the autonomous status, the Institute conducts its own examination and
recommendsthenamesofthestudentstotheuniversityfortheawardofdegree.
From the session 20002001 the Institute is affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi
Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (University of Technology of M.P.) Bhopal. Earlier it
was affiliated to Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore. Persistent efforts are
underwaytoachievetheDEEMEDUNIVERSITYstatusfortheInstitute.
Presently, the Institute offers Ten UG courses (Regular), four UG courses
(PartTime),PGprogrammeswith22Specializations,TwoPartTimePGcoursesin
variousdisciplinesundertheemergingareasofEngineering,Technology,Applied
Sciences,ComputerApplications,ManagementandPharmacy.Thepresentintake
is 690 in B.E. and 60 in B. Pharm. at UG level, and 430 at PG level with a total

strength of students exceeding 3300 at UG level and 1100 at PG level, including

PhD scholars. Every year approximately 10 students from different states of the
country are also nominated by the Govt. of India for admission to this Institute.
The sanctioned faculty strength is 206 which include 32 Professors, 27 Associate
Professors and 52 Assistant Professors. In addition, there are about 95 Assistant
ProfessoronContract.TheInstitutehaswellqualifiedfacultymemberswithmost
of Professors and Associate Professors have Ph. D. degree. The strength of
administrativeandothersupportingstaffisabout265.Thetotallandareaofthe
Instituteis35acreswhilethebuildingareais37,687squaremeters.
Teaching and related activities of the Institute are performed by various
Departments, Centers, and Cells of the Institute. The Departments are: Civil
Engineering and Applied Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical
Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Electronics and
Instrumentation Engineering, Industrial and Production Engineering, Computer
Engineering, Information Technology, BioMedical Engineering, Computer
Technology and Applications, Pharmacy, Applied Physics, Applied Chemistry and
Applied Mathematics and Computational Sciences. Various Centers and Cells
include Computer centre, Centre for Continuing Education Programme, Training
and Placement Cell, Central Workshop and Language Laboratory, and Institute
IndustryPartnershipCell.
Apart from spacious classrooms and well equipped laboratories, the
campusoftheInstituteencompasses4boyshostelswithacapacityofabout540
occupants,onegirlHostelwithacapacityof350students,onetransithostelwith
24suits,44facultyquarters.Institutehascentrallibrarywhichhasrichcollection
of books, reference library and a large number of online and print journals. In
additionInstitutealsohousesvariousamenitiessuchasPlayGround,Gymnasium
withmodernequipments,Indoorsportscomplex,GuestHouse,Branchoforiental
Bank of Commerce, office of Institution of Engineers Cooperative Stores,
Canteen, Ladies common Room, Dispensary, and Office of SGSITS Alumni
Association.
2. COURSESOFFEREDANDTHEIRELIGIBILITY
2.1 UG COURSES: BACHELOR OF ENGINEERING (B.E.) and BACHELOR OF

PHARMACY(B.PHARMA.)
The state government of M.P. has introduced PreEngineering and
Pharmacy Test (PEPT) since 1981 for candidates desirous to seek admission to
State Engineering Colleges. Those candidates who qualify in the examination are
offered admission through online distributive counseling, conducted by Director
Technical Education (DTE) M. P. Bhopal. The date of availability and cost of
application form, the last date of submission of the form, the examination fee,
the date of examination and other details are announced by VYAVSAYIK
PARIKSHAMANDAL(VYAPAM),Bhopalinleadingnewspapersofthestate(please
referVYAPAMwebsiteforthesame).
The Institute offers a four years (8 semesters) Bachelor of Engineering
programme in the following Branches: (i) Civil Engineering (CE) (ii) Electrical
Engineering (EE) (iii) Mechanical Engineering (ME) (iv) Electronics and
Telecommunication Engineering (E &TC) (v) Computer Science and Engineering
(CS) (vi) Industrial and Production Engineering (IP) (vii) Electronics and
InstrumentationEngineering(EI)(viii)InformationTechnology(IT)(ix)Biomedical
Engineering (BM). Institute also offers B. Pharma. four year degree course. The

2.1.1EligibilityforBE/BPharmaregularcoursesundervariouscategories
1. Minimum qualification for admission to the first year B.E. shall be the
qualifying Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination (10+2) scheme with
Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (also securing pass marks in these three
subjects individually) conducted by M.P. Board of Secondary Education or an
equivalentexaminationfromarecognizedBoard/University.
2. Candidates who have qualified the Diploma course in related branch of
engineering from M.P. Board of Technical Education, Bhopal or equivalent shall
also be eligible for admission to first semester of B.E. course through online off
campuscounselingconductedbyDTEBhopal.
3. NonResident Indian (N R I) candidates shall also be eligible for
admission to B.E. in accordance with directives of the Government of
Madhya Pradesh, provided they satisfy the criterion of clause 1
above.
4. The admissions to B.E. course shall be governed by the rules of the
technical education and training department government of Madhya Pradesh
Bhopal and/ or any other competent authority of the state government of
MadhyaPradesh.
2.1.2 Examination and online counseling process for B.E. / B. Pharma. courses
Online Offcampus Admission Procedure: In case the decision to conduct
online off campus counseling for a particular course is taken by the State
Government,thenthecompetentauthoritydeclaredbytheStateGovernmentfor
thispurpose,shallfinalizethedetailedprogrammeandshallmakeitavailableon
its website declaring its procedure, process of admission and deferent cut off
dates. Procedure of Online Off Campus Counseling will be followed as per the
regulation published in MP Government Gazette dated 31st July, 2009 (As
amended)forOnlineOffCampusCounseling.
2.1.3AdmissionagainstNonResidentIndianSeats
1. SGSITS have been approved by AICTE, New Delhi for 5% NRI Seats of total
intake capacity. Admission against these seats will be carried out as per the

regulation published in MP Government Gazette dated 19th May, 2011 for

admission against NRI seats "Admission (Reservation to nonresident Indian in
AICTEApprovedCourses)Regulations,2011."
2. Conversion of vacant non resident Indian seats: Vacant nonresident Indian
seats i.e. unfilled nonresident Indian seats shall be merged into the category of
M.P. domicile candidate seats by competent authority and these seats shall be
filled by competent authority as per the procedure for filling M P domicile
candidateseats.
2.1.4 Eligibility and counseling process for admission in second year

(lateralentry)forDiplomapassstudents
1. As per the guidelines prescribed by AICTE and State Government. The
candidatesshouldbeanIndiannational.Forbeingeligibletoseeklateralentryto:
A degree programme in Engineering at the second year (third
semester) level, a Candidate must have passed the Diploma
examination in appropriate branch of Engineering/Technology from
an Institution recognized by AICTE with minimum marks of 50 percent; OR must
have passed B.Sc. Degree examination from an university recognized by the
university grants commission with a minimum 50 percent marks at and have
passed12thexaminationwithmathematics.
2. A degree programme in Pharmacy at the second year (third
semester)level,acandidatemusthavepasseddiploma.
3. Maximum 20 percent seats over and above the sanctioned intake
(supernumerary) of previous academic year shall be available for
admission through lateral entry scheme. These seats shall be available for MP
domicilecandidatesonly.
4. Total available seats for lateral entry in each course shall be filled first by
Diploma holders. Candidates who have passed B.Sc. Examination shall be
considered on the seats remaining vacant after giving admission to the diploma
holder

2.1.5B.E.(PartTime)
The Institute also offers Four Year Part Time Degree Courses, B.E. (Part
Time), for providing opportunity to working diploma holders in Mechanical (30
seats), Electrical (30 seats), Industrial and Production (30 seats), Electronics and
TC(30seats)andCivilEngineering(30seats).
Eligibility: Minimum 50% aggregate marks for General Category applicants
and48%forSC/STandPhysicallyHandicappedapplicants.Applicantsarerequired
to produce NOC from the employer in the proscribed format available in the
applicationform.
Reservations as per state government norms apply. The classes for these
courses are held in evening (Timings are from 6.00pm to 9.20pm) and these
courses are selffinanced. The duration of the course is of eight semesters. The
admission to these courses is made in January / July every year. The admission
criterion,teachingandExaminationschemeandTuitionfeeforthecoursesarein
accordance with Government ordinance issued in November 1995, and the
amendmentsmadefromtimetotime.
Criteria:MeritlistispreparedbyconsideringDiplomaTheoryMarks(DTM)
of the Final Diploma Examination and No of years of experience (N) using the
followingformula:
MeritMarks=85*DTM+1.5*N.
Forexampleisacandidatehasobtained72%intheoryinDiplomaandhas
three years of experience. His score will be 85X0.72 + 1.5X3 = 61.2+ 4.5 = 65.7.
Merit list is prepared as per this score and admissions are offered in accordance
with the number of seats in individual course. 1.5 Maximum marks obtained
underexperienceis15.Formoredetailscontactinstituteparttimeoffice(3pmto
9pm).
2.2THEPOSTGRADUATEPROGRAMMES
2.2.1MASTEROFENGINEERING/TECHNOLOGY(M.E./M.Tech.)

EligibilityCriteriaforadmissionisasunder:
2.2.1.1EligibilityCriteria:
(i)B.E./B.Tech.orequivalentwithminimum55%aggregatemarksinappropriate
Branch of Engineering/Tech. as mentioned against each course/specialization in
Table4. Candidates belonging to SC/ST categories will get 10% relaxation in
qualifyingmarks.
(ii)ValidGATEScore(securing morethanorequaltominimumqualifyingmarks)
Admissionstothesecoursesinregularcategoryaregiveninfollowingsequence:
(A)GATEQualified
General Category/SC/ST/OBC Candidates with valid GATE Score are given
admissionsonthebasisofmeritpreparedwithValidGATEScore.
(B) Appeared in GATE but not qualified (securing less than minimum qualifying
marks but greater than zero), are also considered for admission on the basis of
meritlistpreparedwithValidGATEScore,howeverwithoutScholarshipandonly
ifseatsremainvacantafterthecounsellingofGATEqualifiedcandidatesofParaA
(C) If seats remain vacant even after the counselling of candidates of Para B,
NONGATECandidates(NOTappearedinGATEorhavingZeroGATEScore)arealso
considered for admission, without Scholarship. For NONGATE Candidates,
selection will be based on the merit of the written Test conducted by the
Institute/Departments.ForTestSchedulereferinstitutewebsite.
2.2.1.2Durationofcourses:TwoYearsforregularandThreeyearforPartTime
2.2.1.3 No. of seats available: Number of seats available in each course/

specialization are given in Table4. GATE qualified candidates shall be eligible to

get Scholarship@ Rs.8000/ Per Month, if approved by AICTE, New Delhi.

ScholarshipshallbeprovidedonlyafteritisreceivedfromAICTE,NewDelhi.
2.2.1.4 Allocation/ Reservation of seats: 16%, 20% and 14% seats of sanctioned
intakeshallbereservedforthecandidatesbelongingtoSC,STandOBC(excluding
creamy layer) categories respectively as notified by the state government of

Civil Engineering with specialization in Structural Engineering and (ii) M. Tech. in
MicroElectronics and VLSI. The timings of these courses will be in the evening
from 5.30 to 9.30pm. Applicants should be B.E. /B. Tech. or equivalent with
minimum 55% aggregate marks in appropriate Branch of Engineering/Tech., as
mentionedagainsteachcourse/specializationinTable4.Candidatesbelongingto
SC/ST categories will get 10% relaxation in qualifying marks. Reservation as per
regularcourses,applytoparttimecoursealso.
For Part time courses the applicant should be working in some teaching,
research or industry for a minimum period of 2 years counted from 1

admission year and has to produce No Objection Certificate from his/her

2.2.5.1 Registration: Online registration and payment of registration fee Rs.

1250/ will be done through www.sgsits.ac.in. Fee for SC/ST category candidates

The Candidates will fill up the choice for Course/Branch in order of the
preference which shall not be changed during/after counseling. It is therefore
suggestedthatthechoiceshouldbegivencarefullyandlockedbeforepayment

2.2.5.2 Off campus Counseling: First round of Off Campus counseling will take
placeinphasesforCandidateswithvalidGATE/GPATScore.IncaseofequalGATE
scoreoftwoormorecandidatesrankwillbedecidedonthebasisofDateofBirth
(olderwillgetpreference).
1. Schedule of declaration of Merit and admission list will be available on
institutewebsite.
2. CoursewisemeritlistshallbeplacedonInstituteswebsitewww.sgsits.ac.in,
through which candidate will have an idea of his/her standing for probable
admission in a particular branch. Time as indicated in the schedule, will be
giventothecandidatesselectedindifferentlistsforadmission.
3. If candidates do not take admission and seats remain vacant, further phase
listsshallbedeclaredaspertheschedule
4. Candidate shall be required to deposit full one semester fee as given in
Section3.
5. Reserved Category seats will be converted to other Category as per rule
duringthecounselling,ifnocandidateisavailableinthatcategory.
6. Ifseatsremainvacantafterfirstroundofcounselling,Secondcounsellingwill
take place for the NONGATE/NONGPAT candidates. This shall be done on
commonmeritofwrittentestconductedattheInstitute.

7. If seats remain vacant after second counselling, Third counselling will be

college level counselling on common merit basis in the sequence of valid
GATE/GPATscoreanddegreepercentagemarksofqualifyingexamination.
2.2.6 Cancellation of Admission: If a candidate gets his/her admission cancelled
prior to 7 days before the last date of admission, then the amount paid by
candidate as admission fee will be refunded back after deducting 10% from the
depositedamount.Onlycautionmoneyshallberefundedinfulltothecandidates
whocanceladmissionafterthisperiod.
2.2.7AdmissionofSelectedCandidates:Listofcandidatesselectedforadmission
in first round of counseling along with the total merit list will be displayed on
Institutes website. The candidate will be required to deposit the fee and
completetheformalitiesforregistrationintheinstituteaspertheschedule.
2.2.7.1 If the candidate does not get registered within stipulated time,
his/heradmissionshallbeconsideredcancelledandtheeligiblecandidatesfrom
themeritlistwillbeofferedadmissionagainstvacantseatsaspertheschedule.
Such candidates from the next list, therefore, are required to report before
stipulated time on the scheduled dates, failing which their candidature will be
treatedascancelled.
2.2.7.2 At the time of admission, the Candidate shall give choice for

4.0 EVALUATIONMETHODOLOGY
Under academic autonomy the exams are conducted by the institute, however
the evaluation and result preparation is carried out as per the ordinances of the
affiliating Rajiv Randhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV). For detailed

Salientfeatures
1. ThestudiesandexaminationsofthesecoursesshallbeonthebasisofMarks
Cumcreditsystembutsemesterwiseandfinalevaluationshallbebygrading
system in accordance with the ordinance No. 30, Credit Based Grading
System.
2. The admissions to courses shall be governed by the rules of the technical
education and training department government of Madhya Pradesh Bhopal
and/ or any other competent authority of the state government of Madhya
Pradesh.
3. Examinations: There will be a full examination at the end of each semester
consisting of end semester of theory and practical. The duration of
examinationperiodwillbenormally20workingdays.
4.1PromotiontoHigherSemesterandYearinB.E./B.E.(PTDC)/B.Pharm
Acandidatewhohasbeenadmittedinthecoursewillbepromotedtothehigher
classinaccordancewiththefollowingrules:

4.1.1AcandidatewhohastakenadmissioninABGroupandhasappearedinthe
examinationofoddsemesterofaparticularyear,willautomaticallybepromoted
toevensemesterofthatyearirrespectiveoffailinginanynumberofsubjectsof
previoussemester.
4.1.2 A candidate who has taken admission in even semester under BA Group
and has appeared in the examination of even semester, will automatically be
promotedtonextapplicableoddsemesterirrespectiveoffailinginanynumberof
subjectsofprevioussemester.
Note:Thecandidatewhoseeksadmissioninoddsemesterofanacademicyearis
saidtobeinABgroup,while,acandidatewhoseeksadmissioninevensemester
ofanacademicyearissaidtobeinBAgroup.i.e.aCandidateofABGroupwill
take admission generally in July; whereas, candidate of BA Group will take
admissiongenerallyinJanuaryintherelevantacademicyear.
4.1.3FortheawardofdegreeminimumCumulativeGradePointAverage(CGPA)
requiredis5.0.
4.1.4TopassaparticularsubjectofthecoursetheminimumrequiredgradeisD.
However,thecandidateshouldalsoseparatelyscoreminimumofgradeDinend
semester examinations of theory and practical parts of the subject. For practical
examinations one external examiner from outside the institute shall always be
there.
4.1.5 A candidate who fails to score minimum of grade D in more than five
subjects (Theory and Practical of the same subject shall be treated as two
subjects)inaparticularyear,shallnotbeadmittedtothenexthigheryear.
4.1.6 Further, a candidate shall not be admitted in the fifth or higher semester
classesunlesshe/shehasfullypassedthefirstyearexaminationwithminimumof
CGPA of 5.0. Likewise a candidate shall not be admitted in seventh or higher
semester classes unless he/she has fully passed first and second year
examinationswithminimumCGPAof5.0.

4.1.7Ifacandidatehaspassedallthesubjectsofanapplicableyearbuthasfailed
to score a minimum CGPA of 5.0 as per the requirement of rule 4.1.3 and 4.1.5
above, such a candidate shall be permitted to improve requisite grade point by
reappearing in maximum of three theory /practical subjects, in the ensuing
examination (theory and practical of a subject shall be treated as separate
subjects.)
4.1.8 Other than the provision of rule 4.1.7 above, a candidate shall not be
permittedtoreappearinthatexamination,forimprovementofdivision/marksor
foranyotherpurpose.
4.2PromotiontoHigherSemesterandYearinM.E./M.Tech./MCA
Acandidatewhohasbeenadmittedinthecoursewillbepromotedtothehigher
classinaccordancewiththefollowingrules:

4.2.8 A candidate may provisionally continue to attend next higher year, even if,
the result of qualifying year / semester has not been declared. However,
subsequently if he/she is not able to clear qualifying semester examination, the
candidatecannotclaimanyrightonthebasisofhis/herprovisionaladmission.
4.3PromotiontoHigherSemesterandYearinM.Pharm.
AcandidatewhohasbeenadmittedintheM.Pharm.coursewillbepromotedin
accordancewiththefollowingrules:

4.4.AwardofCreditsandGrade(commontoallcourseasin4.14.3)
4.4.1 Each course, along with its weightage in terms of units and equivalent
credits, shall be recommended by the concerned Board of Studies and shall be
approved by the standing committee of Academic Council and the Executive
Council.Onlyapprovedcoursescanbeofferedduringanysemester.
4.4.2 A student shall be continuously evaluated for his / her academic

performanceinasubjectthroughtutorialwork,practical,homeassignment,mid
semester test, field work, seminars, quizzes, end semester examinations and
regularity, as proposed by respective Board of Studies and approved by standing
committeeofAcademicCouncilandExecutiveCounciloftheUniversity.
4.4.3 The distribution of weightage /marks for each component shall be decided
by the respective of Board of Studies and approved by standing committee of
Academic Council and Executive Council of the University subject to such
stipulationasgivenunder:

4.4.6 Each student, registered for a course, shall be awarded grade by the
concerned faculty / faculties for the specific subject/paper. The grades awarded
toastudentshalldependuponhiscontinuousevaluationthroughperformancein
various examinations, assignments, quizzes, laboratory work, class work, mid
semester test and regularity. The grades to be used and their numerical

4.4.8 The grade sheet at end of each even semester examination for students of
ABgroup(oddsemester,forstudentsofBAgroup)shallalsoshowCGPAtillend
of that semester. The final examination grade sheet at the end of final semester
examinationofthecourseshallalsoindicateCGPA,equivalentpercentagemarks
and the division awarded, according to the rule as given in para. 7.0 of this
ordinance.
4.4.9 A candidate appearing in seventh semester after eighth semester (BA

group) will not be issued Jany Grade Sheet or Provisional Certificate after eighth
semesteruntilhehaspassedallthesemesters.

4.5CondonationofDeficiencyinB.E./B.E.(PTDC)/B.PHARMA
4.5.1Deficiencyuptofivemarkscanbecondonedtothebestoftheadvantageof
thestudentforpassingtheexaminations.Thedeficiencycanbecondonedinnot
more than two subjects (theory and practical of the same subject shall be
consideredastwoseparatesubjects,forthepurposeofawardinggracemarks).
4.5.2 One grace mark will be given to the candidate who is failing/missing
distinction/missing first division by one mark, on behalf of the Vice Chancellor in
the examination. This benefit will not, however, be available to a candidate
gettingadvantageunderclause4.5.1.
4.6CondonationofDeficiency[M.E./M.Tech./MCA/M.Pharma]
4.6.1 One grace mark will be given to the candidate who is either failing in any
semesterormissingdistinction/firstdivisionbyonemark,onbehalfoftheVice

4.9MeritList
4.9.1Course&Branchwisefinalmeritlistoffirstten(10)candidatesintheorder

final semester on the basis of the integrated performance of all the years of the
course. The merit list shall include the first ten candidates securing at least first
divisionandpassingallsemestersinsingleattempts.

4.10Attendance
4.10.1 Candidates appearing as regular students for any semester examination

are required to attend 75 percent of the lectures delivered and the practical
classes held separately in each subject of the course of study, provided that a
short fall in attendance upto 10% and a further 5% can be condoned by the
principal of the college and ViceChancellor of the University, respectively for
satisfactoryreasons.
4.11MediumofInstructionandExamination
4.11.1 The medium of instruction and examination shall be English throughout

thecourseofstudy.
4.11.2 The subjects to be studied in different semesters shall be as per the

Schemes,approvedbyBoardofStudies.

5. SCHOLARSHIPS
Institute facilitates scholarships mentioned below to the students (Table

15).Thesescholarshipsaresanctionedbyvarioussponsoringagenciesassociated
toGovt.ofIndia,M.P.Governmentandprivateagencies.Studentsareadvisedto
takeadvantageofthese,byapplyingintimewhenapplicationsareinvitedforthe

(a) whose parents income is upto 2.0 Lakhs as entitled for 100% fee
concession. As per norms government norms some see such as
caution money, institute development fees and university misc. fees

Mess Facilities: Good quality food is available in respective hostel messhalls. A

Team of mess workers with a contractor is appointed in each hostel mess. The
menu and mess management is taken care by Students Mess Committee in
respectivehostels.Allhostelmessesareequippedwithwatercoolersfordrinking
water.Moreover,drinkingwater(processedthroughcentralizedaquaguardwater
purifier)isavailableatallfloorsofthehostels.
RecreationalActivities:Theseactivitieshelpthestudentsofthehostelstosatisfy
their social needs in maintaining the harmony and cohesiveness among them.
Various facilities are available in each hostel; such as (a) Carom Boards (b) Chess

connection. In addition to all these facilities inside the respective hostels, the

Hostel Allotment Procedure (boys): The candidates seeking admission to First
YearHostel, i.e.Sir M.Visvesvarayahostel,are requiredtosubmit the duly filled
applicationformalongwiththephotocopyofPEPTMarksheetandchallancopyof
registration in the Institute. The allotment is made on respective seats (all

categories) for all branches of engineering and pharmacy. After the session, the
eligible students are shifted to Second Year Hostel i.e. Shree H. Bhabha hostel,
where these students are required to submit duly filled application form
alongwith the photocopy of previous year marksheet and the challan copy of
registration. Similar procedure is followed for allotment in Third year and Final
yearhostels.SimilarprocedureisfollowedforallotmentinShriJCBoseHostelto
PGstudents.
HostelAllotmentProcedure(girls):ThegirlcandidatesseekingadmissiontoFirst
Year Hostel, i.e. Smt. Sarojini Naidu Girls Hostel, are required to submit the duly
filled application form alongwith the photocopy of PEPT Marksheet and challan
copyofregistrationintheInstitute.Theallotmentismadeonrespectiveseats(all
categories)forallbranchesofengineeringandpharmacy.
HostelRules:FollowingruleswillgoverntheadmissiontotheHostel
(i) AllthehostellerswillbestrictlyunderthecontrolofHostelWardens.
(ii) Failure to pay Hostel fee in time will make the student liable for expulsion
fromtheHostel.
(iii) All admissions are for a complete semester (6months), Boarders are liable
to pay all charges for the full semester irrespective of their date of
admissions.
(iv) EachHostelhasitsownkitchenanddiningroom.HostelMessesarerunon
cooperative contract basis. The Institute will not be responsible for
managementoftheirmessing.Studentresidinginhostelhastotakefoodin
hostel mess otherwise a maintenance charge has to paid every month as
perrule.
(v) Useofelectricheatersodelectricstovesor/andanyotherelectricgadgets
in the hostel is strictly forbidden. In the room, cooking of foods is strictly
prohibited.Hostellersviolatingthisruleortemperingwithelectricfusesor
other electric fitting in the Hostel will be liable to punishment leading to
cancellationoftheiradmissiontothehostel.

(vi) TheHostelwillremainclosedduringtheintersemesterbreaks.
(vii) Hostellers are advised not to keep any valuable and large amount of cash
withthemTheInstitutedoesnotholdanyresponsibilityfor losingortheft

(viii) Studentarenotpermittedtoleavethehostelafter10pmorasSpecifiedby
HostelAuthorities.
(ix) Admission is granted for one semester at a time. Normally student may
continueasresidenttillthecompletionofthecourse,subjecttopassingin
theclassadmittedandsatisfactoryprogressaswellasgoodconduct.
(x) Separate electricity charges has to be paid for Personal Computer use as
perrule.
(xi) 20% and 15% of the total seats in the Hostel are reserved for students
belongsbelongingtonumberoftoScheduledTribesandscheduledCastes
respectively. If the sufficient number of students belonging to scheduled
caste and scheduled tribes are not available, their reserved seats will be
allottedtootherstudentsafterlastdateforsubmission.
(xii)Thewardenshavefullrighttoremovethestudentsfromthehosteliffound
involvedinanyobjectionableactivitiesorviolatingthehostelenvironment.
(xiii) PG students are allotted the room for their tenure only. No extension in
permittedforanyreason.

7.1GeneralRules,CodeofConduct
1. Students who do not join semester in time are liable to be refused the
admissioninthecurrentsemester.Incaseofdelayinjoiningduetoillness

or other unavoidable cause, a communication must be made to the

Directorintime.
2. Regular and punctual attendance in theory, practical, field work and class
test etc is required for every regular student in order to be eligible to
appear at the examination. In the case of persistent negligence of work,
repeated failures at examination or unreasonable delay in presenting
oneselfforsuchexamination astudent maybe requiredto withdrawfrom
theinstitute.
3. When a student is absent due to illness or any other genuine cause, a
writtenapplicationmustatoncebesenttotheDirector.
4. Allfee&privilegeswillbeforfeitedifastudentisdismissedforbadconduct
oranyothersuchreasons.
5. Student is required to replace repair an apparatus or other property
destroyedordamagedduetotheirfault.
6. The Director reserves the rights to remove the name of any student from
the roll due to failure to pay college in time (a) Failure to come up to
prescribedstandard(b)Unsatisfactoryconduct.
7. Any student will be liable for disciplinary action up to rustication for
behaving is a manner subversive to discipline or for any grave misconduct
like taking part in any kind of hooliganism either inside or outside the
instituteand/orhostelpremises.Intimidationtoanyonebelongingtothe
institute, unauthorized absence from attending classes taking part
in any unacademic and antisocial activity, any act of similar nature and
convictionincourtoflawforcriminaloffences.
8. TheDirectorreservestherighttorefuse admission/registrationtohis own
discretion to any student at the beginning of any academic semester, for
reason of his/her behaving in a manner subversive to discipline or for any
grave misconduct and whose behavior/activity in
the opinion of the Director may not be considered as conducive to the
maintenanceofdisciplineintheinstitute.

9. Every student should check the percentage of attendance from time to

time and the parents/guardians also should keep a watch in regard to the
percentage of attendance of their sons/daughters/wards and progress in
studies. According to present ordinance every student
mustattendatleast75%oflectures,laboratoryclassesandmustcomplete
class work, term work & sessional work for being eligible to appear at the
examination. The institute does not undertake the responsibility to
intimatetheshortageofattendanceofanystudentunlessaskedfor.
7.2AntiRaggingInformation
Thelegaldefinitionofraggingisasfollows:
Ragging means the doing of any act which causes, or is likely to cause any
physical, psychological or physiological harm of apprehension or shame or
Embarrassmenttoastudentandincludes,
1. Teasing or abusing of playing practical joke on or causing hurt to any
student.
2. Askinganystudenttodoanyact,orperformanything,whichhe/shewould

1. Any conduct by any student or students whether by words spoken or

psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in any fresher

course do and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of

6. Any act of financial extortion or forceful expenditure burden put on a

7. Any act of physical abuse including all variants of it: sexual abuse,
homosexual assaults, stripping, forcing obscene and lewd acts, gestures,

also include deriving perverted pleasure, vicarious or sadistic thrill from

8.1CIVILENGINEERING&APPLIEDMECHANICSDEPARTMENT
ThisisthefirstdepartmentofSGSITSestablishedin1952.TheDepartmentisfully
equipped with modern facilities. The major strength of the Department its
participation in multidimensional activities like Testing, Consultancy, and
Organizing state of art Seminars, Workshops, Short Term Courses etc. The
Departmentishavingfacultystrengthof15staffmemberswith10ofthemhaving
Ph.D.ThisDepartmentisequippedwith16LaboratoriesandComputerCenterfor
Research and Development, teaching, training and consultancy. The department
has been identified as a Resource Center for earthquake studies by National
Programme for Earthquake Engineering Education, Govt. of India. A grant of INR
15 lacs was sanctioned for the setup of a lab in earthquake engineering under
NPEEE project of MHA. The Department is also a QIP Center for Ph. D.
Programme.

Faculty members of the department have been awarded various prestigious

8.1.1M.E.(Civil)SpecializationinStructuralEngineering
Structural Engineering is the oldest and most important specialization of civil
Engineering. The raw Civil Engineering bachelors are moulded into qualified
experts of Structural Engineering best suited to cater to the needs of industry,
teaching and research. Along with the subjects like Concrete Technology,
Foundation Engg., Numerical Methods, etc. common to all P.G. specializations,
the candidates study the hardcore Structural Engg. Subjects like Earthquake
Resistant Design of Structures, Finite Element Method, Advanced Structural
Analysis, Advanced Concrete Design, Advanced Steel Design, Theory of Plates &
Shells,etc.TheyalsostudysomesubjectslikeTheoryofPlasticityandMechanics
of Fiber Reinforced Composites, etc. The candidates with most updated
knowledge in the latest applications obviously find their employment in state &
central Govt, Organisations like city Dev. Authorities, Housing Boards, Bridge
Corporations, Railways etc. along with public sector and private ltd. companies
like H.C.C., L&T(ECC), HSCL, HPCL, NHPC, etc. They also have good

Increasingscarcityofwaterinallsectorsduetocontinuouslygrowingpopulation
has been playing considerable emphasis on Water Resources Development and
optimum utilization of available resources. The Flood Drought situation in the

country also calls for management of Water Resources in critical extreme

situation.Thecomingdecadesshallberequiringspecializedexpertsintheareaof
Water Resources Engineering & Management to solve the above mentioned
problems and to plan & execute the newly launched project of Interlinking of
RiversbyGovernmentofIndia.ThisP.GCourseFocusesonResourcesEvaluation
andManagementandnotonconventionalFluidMechanics.Itimpartstrainingto
the professionals in the area of Deterministic and Stochastic Hydrology, Water
Resources Systems Engg., Water Management, Ground Water Resources
assessment and Recharging, Design of Hydraulic Structures etc. The students
completing this course will be able to develop expertise in Evaluation and
Assessment of available Surface & Ground Water Resources, Decision Making
underUncertainty,OptimumUseofWater,ReservoirOperation,OnFarmWater
Management, Computer Aided Analysis &Design, Probability Theory and
Statistical modeling. The candidates after obtaining the degree will have the
opportunities of jobs in various Govt. Departments, Govt. of India Undertakings,

8.1.3M.Tech.EnvironmentalEngineering
The increasing pollution in all sectors such as Water, Air, Noise is resulting in
Environmental Degradation and is providing alarms for the sustenance of
comfortable life on the surface of the earth. Scientists, Technologists, Engineers
are required to be alert to face these challenges of future. These aspects
emphasize on development of trained experts in the field of Environmental
ManagementandPollutionControl.M.Tech.courseinEnvironmentalEngg.isan
interdisciplinary one, open to graduates in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical
andAgriculturalEngineeringanditprovidesplatformtoacquireknowledgeinall
theabovementionedareas.ItimpartstraininginAirandWaterPollutionControl,
Sanitary Chemistry and Microbiology, Environmental Hygiene, Industrial Waste
Treatment,Environmentallaws,Legislation,ImpactAssessment,apartfromstudy
water and Sewage Treatment Plants. The candidates completing the course can

With the launching of Prime Minister Road Plan since last 12 years the Road
SectorhadgotasuddenboostandalargenumberofRoadsarebeingremoulded
and constructed to develop a strong Road Transportation Network. A large
number of companies have been involved in Road Construction Projects and
having a very high demand of trained personnel in the area of Transportation
Engineering. The M. E. course offered by the Department provides training to
students in all the related areas of Transportation Engineering such as Highway
geometrics,urbanandruraltransportationplanning,systemanalysis,Designand
construction of flexible and rigid pavements in addition to basic subjects of
concrete technology and geotechnical Engg. The candidates completing this
courseshallbeabletohandlealltasksofplanning,designingandconstructionof
roadprojectandcanbeofferedbyvariousgovernmentandprivateorganizations
dealinginroadsector.

8.2MECHANICALENGINEERINGDEPARTMENT
Mechanical Engineering Department is one of the prime and oldest department
of the Institute with 18 learned staff members on the roll. Over the years, a
numberofwellequippedlaboratorieshavebeendeveloped.TheDepartmenthas
excellent experiment facilities in Vibrations & Noise Control laboratory, Material
Science Laboratory, Material Testing laboratory, Automobile and I C Engine
Laboratory, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Laboratory, Heat and Mass
TransferLaboratory,TheoryofMachinesLaboratory,FluidMechanicslaboratory,
Recently Computer Aided Design and Graphics Laboratory has been developed
with latest CAD/CAM software. Majority of the teaching faculty has either
acquired Ph.D. qualifications in their respective areas or are in the process of
completing the same. Many of the staff members have been associated to the
institutesofhigherlearningsuchasI.I.T.s,I.I.Sc.Bangalore,NITsetc.Department
has also conducted many Seminars, Conferences & Short Term Courses in last

8.2.1M.E.inTribologyandMaintenanceEngineering
TribologyandMaintenanceEngineeringisanupfrontareaintechnology.TheM.E.
course covers the basic subjects like Boundary Layers, Theory and Vibration and
Noise Control in Bearings. Beyond this it also covers the specialized subjects like
applied Tribology, Analysis Selection and Design of Bearing, Diagonostic
Maintenance,FailureAnalysisandRepair,MaintenancePlanningetc.Thecourse
is aimed at producing high quality professionals in the area of Maintenance
Engineering to meet the demand of the industry. The course structure is
dynamically linked to the needs of the industry and is in line with the front line
technology adapted by the industry. The post graduate students cater to the
needsofchemical,fertilizer,mining,automobile,textileandothersimilartypeof
industries which are maintenance intensive. Besides this the pass out students
also seek career in advanced research areas. Some of the sponsored candidates
admitted are from engineering teaching institutes, who come for higher
qualification and on completion of the course go back to their parent institute.

8.2.2M.E.inCAD/CAM/CAE
Department has also started ME in CAD/CAM/CAE from the session 2012. The
objectiveofthisprogramistocreatehighlyqualifiedprofessionalsinthefieldof
CAD/CAM/CAE to meet the challenges of Industries. Collaboration with IITs and
Industry is planned to meet this challenges. The department has developed a
separate PG lab for this course with high tech Rapid Prototyping and Reverse
Engineering Facilities along with state of art CAD/CAM/CAE softwares. The
courses taught in the first semester will be Computer Aided Design, Computer
Aided Manufacturing, Finite Element Analysis, Advance Machine Design, and
Advance Material Science. In the Second Semester the courses taught would be
Mechatronics and Industrial Automation, Optimization in Engineering Design,
Rapid Prototyping and Rapid Tooling, along with elective subjects such as
Computational Fluid Dynamics, Computer Aided Thermal Design, Product Design
andDevelopmentetc.
8.3ELECTRICALENGINEERINGDEPARTMENT
Electrical Engineering Department, established in 1957 has well developed

infrastructure and welltrained faculty and nonteaching staff. First postgraduate
course in Electrical Engineering started in 1962. At present the department
supportsB.E,M.E.Electricalwithspecializationin(1)PowerElectronics(2)Digital
Techniques and Instrumentation and PhD programs in Electrical Engineering.
Majorityoftheprojectsarebasedonthepracticalproblemsoftheindustries.The
Department has laboratories pertinent to these specializations, such as Power
Electronics Lab., Drivers Lab., Control Systems and Instrumentation Lab, VLSI
Design Lab., Microprocessor Lab., Digital and Analog Electronics Lab., DSP Lab,
PowerSystemandHighVoltageLab,MachineLab.Alargenumberofpapersare
published every year in various Journals and conferences as an outcome of P.G
projects. The PG course are supported by Electrical Engineering, Electronics &
TelecommunicationEngg.andElectronics&InstrumentationEngg.departments.

Most advances in the field of Electrical Engineering have been possible due to
Power Electronics, be it in manufacturing or Power system, transportation or
energy conservation. The department is a pioneer institute to start teaching or
PowerElectronicsinMadhyaPradeshandhashighlyqualifiedfacultyinthisfield.
In addition the course is also supported by good number of Software and
Equipments.

8.3.2M.E.SpecialisinginDigitalTechniquesandInstrumentation
The PG Course in Digital Techniques and Instrumentation is dedicated to
automation which combines Digital Electronics and Control. This course deals
with Microcontrollers, DSP, Advanced Processors, Reliability, VLSI, Sensors and
Instrumentation. The course is supported by highly qualified faculty and
equipmentsalongwithsimulationsoftware.

8.4ELECTRONICSANDTELECOMMUNICATIONENGINEERING
DEPARTMENT
The Department was established in 1972 and its first UG batch passed out in
1974. In the view of the large teledensity and in the field of mobile
communication in the country and expansion of computer networks, the
department started M.E. (Electronics & Telecom Engineering) program in 2003
whichhasspecialemphasisinTelecommunicationtechnology.Thedepartmentis
equipped with the state of art equipments and has developed laboratories in
related fields. The department has close interaction with IIT Mumbai in distance
education program and CISCO regional academy. The department has well
established computing facilities with intranet/internet connectivity. The
DepartmenthasactivelyparticipatedinIMPACTprojectsupportedbyworldbank,
swiss dev. corporation (SDC) and Department of Electronics (now named as
ministry of information Technology) Government of India, aimed at enhancing
educational facilities to provide quality manpower. The department has
participated in TEQIP Phase I and also participating in TEQIP Phase II. The
departmentisQIP/PhDcenterofMHRD,Govt.ofIndia.

8.5ELECTRONICSANDINSTRUMENTATIONENGG.DEPARTMENT
This department came out as an offspring of Electronics Engineering due to

enormousdevelopmentinthefieldofElectronicsanddemandofInstrumentation
Engineering at national and international levels. M. Tech. course in
Microelectronics and VLSI Design started in 2002 due to the requirement of
trainedmanpowerinthefieldofVLSI.Fromtheyear2012PartTimecourseinthis
Specialization also started to help the industry persons to upgrade themselves.
Laboratories are equipped with modern sophisticated instruments procured
undertheWorldBankprojectTEQIP.

Thefacultyofthedepartmentiswellqualifiedtoacceptthenewchallengesinthe
Electronic and Instrumentation field. Recently three candidates are awarded
Ph.D. degree with department as a research center. A Special Manpower
DevelopmentProgram(SMDPII)isrunninginthedepartmentfundedbyMinistry
of Information and Communication Technology, Government of India. A SMDP
VLSI Lab has been set up under this project in the department having EDA tools
like Cadence, Synopsis, Mentor Graphics, Tanner, Xilinx etc. Under India chip
program of SMDP project, a two stage CMOS opamp was designed, fabricated
and tested. New ventures for research and product development in area of
BiomedicalandOpticalengineeringarealsobeingsetup.Facultiesofdepartment
havetakentrainingfromIITs,IIScintheareaofVLSI.Studentsofdepartmentare
performing well in different competitive exams in addition to good performance
incampusplacement.

8.6COMPUTERENGINEERINGDEPARTMENT
The Department of Computer Engineering was established in 1983, the first one
in the state of Madhya Pradesh and Central India. The department runs the UG
and PG programmes in Computer Engineering, both of the programs are
accredited by the NBA, AICTE. The department has established the Center for
Distance Engineering Education programme (CDEEP) in collaboration with IIT
Bombay in 2001. Through this programme, the department also offers video
broadcastlecturesbyeminentteachersofIITBombayforPGstudentsfromtime
to time. Several specialized courses have been included in the PG program to
focus prospective subject areas like Soft Computing, Network & Information
Security,ServiceOrientedArchitecture,Embeddedsystems,DataMining,Mobile
Computing etc. The projects carried out by the PG students have been receiving
applause from the industries and thus fetching good placement opportunities.
The department is proud of its PG students as many of the exstudents of the
department are now serving at prominent positions in reputed R & D
organizations and leading industries. Recently the department has been
recognized as a QIP center for Ph. D. programme in Computer Engineering. The
Department will be receiving a fund to the tune of Rs. 1 Crore in next 45 years

department. The Department is equipped with learned faculty and modern
facilities. The Department has set dimensions in research. In addition to winning

are popular in many engineering curricula of the country. Conducting ISTE
sponsored Winter/Summer school and workshop and training programme for
executives is a regular feature of the dept. The department has as exclusive

CIM is revolution in making. Gone are the days when designing was manual and
manufacturing was labour intensive. Today Computer Aided Design workstations

(ERP) for managing resources and Product Life Cycle Engineering and

Biomedical Engineering deals with the application of electronic, pneumatic and

mechanical instruments that are used in medical science applications. The
bachelors course on Biomedical Engineering in this Institute has started in the

theoryofsignalprocessingappliedtomedicalsciencesuchas,imageprocessing,
digital signal processing, network analysis, etc. is also a part of academic
curriculum in this course. This course also imparts training to the students for
overall design, maintenance and installation of medical instruments in a hospital
or a medical R&D centre. This course aims to strengthen the manpower in the
area of Biomedical Engineering. Thus, this forms a bridge between Engineering
and Medical streams for research & development as well as applications in the

8.11PHARMACYDEPARTMENT
The department of pharmacy (Formerly state college of pharmacy) is considered

to be one of the best pharmacy schools of central India imparting need based
undergraduate and postgraduate pharmaceutical education. Equipped with
sophisticated research instruments and lab equipments, well qualified and
experiencedfaculty andwith agood library,computingand labfacilities itoffers
four year B. Pharma. Degree and Two year M. Pharm. Degree in industrial
Pharmacy and Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry Specialization

contents and research projects. The major areas of current research activities

This course is fully dedicated to the academic needs of pharmaceutical Industry.
Knowledge of all important pharmaceutical fields is duly covered in the
curriculum.Thestudentsaretrainedinallimportantareaslikequalityassurance,
drug regulatory affairs, pharmaceutical packaging, formulation development,
process development and industrial management through practicals seminars,
and industrial projects. The Labs are equipped with all advance equipments and
facilities needed for carrying out research experiments. Participation of senior
experts from pharmacy industries in the course coverage and examination
evaluation is a routine practice. The major areas of current research interest are
novel drug delivery system, formulation development, stability and solubility
enhancementofnewmaterialsforpharmaceutical

8.12APPLIEDPHYSICSDEPARTMENT
The department has been offering M. Sc. (Applied physics) since 1969 and M.
Tech. (Optoelectronics) with specialization in Optical Communication since 1995.
The laboratories in area of lasers, fiber optics, non linear optics, optical
communication and nanotechnology are among the best in the country offering
M.Tech programmes. Experimental R&D labs have been developed for PhD
programme. The department has been running a number of collaborative
programmers at national level with C.A.T., Indore, B.A.R.C., Mumbai, D.A.V.V.,
Indore and BIRLA Institute of technology, Mesra (Ranchi). The international
collaborationwiththeinstituteofphysics,HumboldtUniversity,Berlin(Germany)
has been sponsored by DST , Govt. of India and DAAD, Germany, since 2003.
Several research projects funded by DST, DAE, CSIR, AICTE, UGC, NPMASS,
MPCOST, ICMR and DBT with a large number of full time research fellows are
either completed or being conducted successfully in the department. In the last
six years (20062011), 15 Ph.D. theses have been submitted in the area of Non
linear optics and laser physics, semiconductor Nanostructures and bulk. At
present six (06) students are pursuing their PhD from the department. The

Central Library was established in 1955 with a small collection of 429 books.
Currently it earns the status of the biggest college library in Madhya Pradesh in
