The sa!wood is grayish$white, usually with a yellowish astE the F heartwood @
is light !in& to light red when first e;!osed, ageing to !ale russet brown,
subGet to grey stain. It is lustrous and without harateristi odour or taste.

The timber seasons well if the logs are on<erted in a green state, though if
left long in the log, it is liable to de<elo! end s!litting and deoration. Bi&e
many other meliaeous timbers, it ontrats <ery onsiderably aross the
grain while drying out. The best method of dealing with the timber is to on<ert
the logs as soon after felling as !ossible and to o!en sta& the sawn material,
