BK-5 System Update Version 1.05



This system program updates your BK-5 to the latest version 1.05.

How to tell the version
Please check the version of the system working on your BK-5 before downloading
the archive file.
1. Press the [ MENU ] button.
2. Select GLOBAL and press the [ ENTER ] button.
3. Select UTILITY and press the [ ENTER ] button.
4. Scroll up to the end of the list to reach the Version Info Label.


* Do not perform the update if the product is already up-to-date.

[Functional Improvements]
Introduced the selection of FAVORITE TONES.
Introduced the QUICK RECALL OF PERFORMANCES.
Introduced the COPY and RENAME of PERFORMANCES.
Introduced the Harmonium 1, Harmonium 2, Harmonium 3 in the
PAD/ETHNIC tone families.
Introduce the RESET of KEY VALUE by pressing KEY button again
when KEY Pop UP is opened.
Improved One Touch Edit screen. The names of recalled Tones for
each part is now shown.
Improved Volume screen recalled by pressing [LWR] + [UP2]. The
Reverb, Chorus and Pan Pot is now changeable in that screen.
[Bug Fixes]
The following bugs were fixed.
Improved behaviour of OCTAVE POP UP.
Solved a bug into the Munich Rock style.
Solved a bug into Rhythm Composer.

BK-5 Sound interruption removed while changing Tone banks
[Bug Fixes]
The following bugs are fixed.
Rhythm Composer not working from Midi.
Fixed the following controllers: Chorus, Reverb, Sustain,
Expression, Panpot, Modul and Pitch bender.
Into rhythm composer count is now set to "1 measure" as
default value.
Fixed Wait Note Mode (not working after the first time).
Into rhythm composer track length is impossible to set to "0"
value.
The metronome function remains in ON exiting from the
rhythm composer mode.
Into rhythm composer Quantize now memorizes the current
selected value on previous rhythm track.
Chord recognition Pianist now also works through an external
keyboard connected via MIDI.
"Operation complete" message now appears into rhythm
composer after copy operation is completed.
The function Ending/Ritardando is added by double pressing
the ending button.
Fixed an issue in which the track disappears in the Rhythm
composer if you change CC00.
Saving of one touch at the second save shows the message to
create the area -> press yes -> "device full" appears. "Device
full" message removed.
Additional small bugs are solved into Rhythm Composer.


Items to prepare for the update

Following items are required to perform the update.
BK-5 itself
USB Flash Memory ( Roland's M-UF2G is recommended )
* The USB Flash Memory needs to be formatted on a BK-5.
A computer with a USB connector ( Windows, Mac )

Cautions with the update
Never apply this update data to any product other than the BK-5. This
update data may destroy the data or system program of other products.
Never power-off your BK-5 while the update is in progress!
If a power failure or similar accident occurs during the update process, the
BK-5 wont be able to start up in normal operating mode. This will require
servicing, so you will need to contact Roland service center near you if this
occurs.
We regret that we are unable to answer questions regarding the update
procedure using this system program. Please perform the update
responsibly, following the directions given in this document.

Update Procedure
1. Expand the downloaded file "bk5_sys_v105.zip". Four pdf files and a
bk5_sys_v105 folder will remain containing the following 6 update
files:
- PROGRAM.BIN
- release.txt
- rom.bin
- startup
- update
- waverom.bin
2. Connect the USB memory to a computer and delete all existing files and
folders from the memory.
3. Copy (drag and drop) all the files included in the update files folder into
the USB memorys root directory.
* Do not copy the bk5_sys_v105 folder but copy the 6 individual
update files themselves.
4. Disconnect the USB memory from your computer as follows.
[ Windows ]
Use the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows task tray to
un-mount the USB memory and then disconnect the USB memory
from your computer.


[ Mac ]
Drag the Drive icon of the USB memory into the trash in the dock
and then remove the USB memory from your computer.
5. After verifying that the BK-5s power is off, connect the USB memory into
the BK-5's USB MEMORY port.
6. While pressing and holding the [ WRITE ] button, power on the BK-5 .

7. Continue holding the [ WRITE ] button until the "Update Mode:" text
appears on the top line of the LCD of the BK-5.
8. Wait until the end of the update; the display will show "SUCCESS
".
Note: The update procedure takes about 20 minutes. During the
update, the LCD content may change a few times.
9. Turn off the BK-5.
10. Execute a Factory Reset following the procedures below.


Factory Reset
1. Press the [MENU] button.
2. Rotate the [CURSOR/VALUE] dial to select the Factory Reset entry,
then press the [ENTER/SELECT] button.
3. Rotate the [CURSOR/VALUE] dial to select YES, then press the
[ENTER/SELECT] button to load the factory settings.
