Project Meeting
Summer Term 2013
How lovely it was for Maesgwyn School to play host to
our Comenius partners from Hasan Icyer Ilkogretim Oku-
lu, Turkey and IIS Savoia Benncasa, Italy. Sadly our part-
ners from Hadsten Skole, Denmark could not be with us
and they were greatly missed. This visit was a great op-
portunity for pupils and staff at Maesgwyn School to meet
representatives from our partner schools and get to know
them better. It also gave our partner schools the
opportunity to practice their English skills, at which they
were very impressive.

I hope our visitors had as nice a time in Wales as we did
in showing them around places of special interest to us.
In this newsletter you can see a snap-shot of the places
visited. All the articles have been written by the pupils
and I thank each and every one of them for making it such
an enjoyable read.

I would also like to thank all the pupils, parents and staff
for their hard-work in making this a successful visit.
I know a lot of extra hours have been put in by staff who
gave freely of their time in support of our project. It is
very much appreciated.

First Day at M
aesgwyn School, I was still excited, because we were going to
go to do school. W
e had breakfast. W
hen we
went to school, we played a lot of games. M

favourite was Treasure hunt. It was fun. W
e
had lunch the food very nice. I ate potato
chips and pizza. W
e had a school tour. W
e
played football and basketball. The students
very friendly. The weather here changes a lot.
It is rainy, sunny, rainy, sunny. W
e came
back to do hotel. W
e had dinner. W
e were
crowded. W
e came back to do room and
slept.

Our hotel is small. There is a
beautiful park. We dont have a wifi in
the hotel. I wish they had internet. The
hotel room is small. I`m staying with
Serdar and my Principal in the room.

The view of our room is very nice.
Everywhere is green. I had fun in the
park. The breakfast is different than
ours. I liked the potatoes. I liked the
food at dinner.

The beds are bunk beds. I slept on the
top. It was comfortable. There is a lift
in the hotel. It is an interesting lift.
You move the lift up and down with
your hands.

BIG PIT
Today was very interesting because we
had a lot of things to do. After breakfast we went to the school. W
e
waited for the bus. After 45 minutes we arrived to BIG PIT. Big pit
is a coal mine. W
e went to the underground (90 meters) that was very
fast. W
e were scared on the way.
There were tunnels in the Big Pit ,
small tunnels. The trip lasted for 50
minutes. Tunnels was 700 meters. It
was long. I hit my head on the roof. I
learned that kids were working in the
Big Pit I felt bad. W
e finished our tour
and get back to the school and now we
are in the computer room.

it
Today we went to Big Pit by school bus.
Big Pit is an old mine in Wales and when
it worked, it was the biggest in the UK.
The guide said that the life of miners was
very hard and difficult because they
worked in a small place in the dark. The
miners could die any day because in
mines there are a lot of gases. Before
going into the mine we had to wear a
helmet with a light. We saw the long and
narrow pit. In the pit we saw carbon, the
place where the horses lived and the
place where the miners worked. After
that we had an interactive tour; it talked
about techniques for building mines.
Then we had lunch with a good sand-
wich and an apple or a banana. Before
went into the school bus we went in the
gift shop where we bought nice things
(for example: some clothes or sweets or
typical things. After that we went to
school. We liked this trip in the mine
because it was particular and fun.

arrived at Cardiff. W

. It was a very big and gorgeous stadium

X-Factor elections. W
e went to Cardiff Castle. It was
very old and interesting. Then we went to a big AVM

(St Davids Center). W
e did som
e shopping. There
were a lot of cafes and shops around. It was so fun.

CARDIFF CASTLE AND CARDIFF
Cardiff castle was built thousand years ago. Cardiff castle is a big castle and we
walked all around the castle and we were tired. But still we were energetic enough to
play in the garden of the castle. We had lunch in the garden. It was sunny and hot ,
we were lucky because it is always raining here.
Cardiff is a big city. It looks like Izmir. It has big shopping malls , cafes and cinemas.
Some things are cheaper here and some things are more expensive than in Turkey.
We bought a football. It was cheaper here. I am having a great time here I wish we
could stay longer.

s. Then we went to play Bowl- ing. W

Exchange Visit
From Italy & Turkey To Wales

Saint Fagans
We went to saint
Fagans and we showed the Turkish
and the Italian Welsh life years ago.
We took them around the old hous-
es from years ago. We also bought
sweets from years ago and we went
round the old shops and the visitors
went to the shop to buy things. It
was a very nice day. The visitors
enjoyed looking around Saint Fa-
gans.
