**Introduction:
Chinese medicine refers to the treatment principles of [ben] and [biao] the
"roots" and "branches" of disease. The skillful physician learns to differentiate
between the deep seated causes and the peripheral manifestations of a disease. "To
treat a disease, find the root."
"First Do No Harm"
Rebalance the body with the least invasive treatments possible - dietary changes
and hydrotherapy to start. Simple treatments should be considered before surgeries
or expensive medicines. This also includes implementing treatments that nourish
and strengthen the body. For example, the Chinese often drink special teas and eat
certain foods at the change of each season to prepare the body for new
environmental conditions.
The healing process can often cause unresolved wounds from the past to resurface.
Such wounding may have occurred on the mental, emotional, or spiritual level.
Focusing on healing an aspect of the self can restimulate past hurts as well.
