1. Introduction

The STM 150 is an ultra-fast switch intended for the transfer of one load from a redundant
inverters system to a second source of AC voltage or vice-versa

It is foreseen for current up to 150A in natural cooling and 180A in assisted cooling.

It allows the redundant inverters system to work on an ON LINE or OFF LINE mode.

It is provided with :

alphanumeric display allowing:

message display giving the system status (load position, system fault, inverter defect,
synchronism or asynchronism, overload,..) in several languages (selection by user).

value display of the voltage, the current, the power and the frequency

control push buttons.

an on/off switch to control the start and stop modules

a RJ45 connector to connect the bus RDI.

An alarm connector allowing the inverters control and information on the system to be remote
control given through free potential contact.
For detailed technical data please, refer to Chapter 6.
2. Description and operation

2.1 Operating mode

Entering in the configuration menu through the buttons on the front panel enables the operator to
choose between 2 operating modes

Mode 1 : Loads supplied permanently by the inverters with assistance (general power failure) or
temporary assistance (overload, short-circuit, module break-down) from the mains if necessary

Mode 2 : Loads supplied permanently by the mains with assistance (Non conformity of the
voltage or frequency mains out of range ) from the inverter system if necessary

2.1.1. ON-LINE CONFIGURATION

a. Operating principles

Fig. 1 shows the operating principle of a parallel inverter system assisted by a STM 150.
At the normal state, the loads are supplied by the inverters which the emergency system holds
synchronous by means of the SY (synchronisation) process located in the STM 150.

When a fault occurs on the AC power bus of the inverters, STM 150 detects it and an uninterrupted
commutation sequence is started thanks to the 2 thyristor pairs TH1 and TH2.
After 2 seconds, if the AC power bus of the inverters is back to normal, the loads are
reconnected without cut-off, to the inverter system.

2.1.2 OFF-LINE CONFIGURATION

a. Operating principles

Fig.1 shows the operating principle of this second configuration.

Normally, the loads are supplied by the auxiliary source. The inverters set in parallel are running in
a no-load mode and synchronised to the mains by means of a the SY process located in the STM
150.

STM 150 monitors permanently the MAINS and in case of any fault detected, an uninterrupted
commutation sequence is started thanks to the 2 thyristor pairs TH1 and TH2.

5 seconds after the AC mains returns to normal, the loads are reconnected, without cut-off to the
mains.

For detailed description of available controls, monitoring functions and operation please, refer to
Chapter 3.

2.2 Constructional features:

The static switch STM 150 is built into the form of a 19" rack, 3U height.

All power connections are frontal and shown in figure 2a

Located on the lateral right side are (see figure 2b):

- The output alarms and load position status through available on a screw terminals
- the terminal for a remote on/off control

The unit shown in figure 2a mainly contains 2 PCB:
- 1 STM main board
- 1 Control card

The control card has the following function:

digital control of the STM
to watch the limit Ton the rear heat sink
to monitor the unit and giving status on the display in case of failure
to control the synchronisation and the transfer management
to allow to the user to change himself some parameters using the "parametric menu" and the
"configuration menu"

Parameters adjustment can also be modified through menu push button in parametric mode. Please
refer the "parametric mode" section 4.2.
3.2 Starting and running sequence
As soon an AC voltage is connected to the mains terminal the auxiliary power supply starts. The
front switch on/off is used to start the inverters modules of the system
The choice between on line and off line mode will govern the following step.
In on line mode:
If the mains was present before to start the inverter, the load was supplied by the mains and
will be supplied (without voltage interruption) by the inverter after the previous starting operation
thanks to the transfer conduction from thyristor pair TH1 to TH2.
If the mains was not present, the load was not supplied and will be supply by the inverters
through the thyristor pair TH1 after the starting sequence.
In off line mode:
If the mains was present before to start the inverter, the load was supplied by the mains and
will remain supplied by the mains after the previous starting operation. The inverter runs and
remains in this standby state until the mains stays in the voltage conformity range.
If the mains was not present, the load was not supplied and will be supply by the inverter
through the thyristor pair TH2 after the starting sequence.

The default-displayed values are:

- output voltage Vout = 230 Volts
- position of the load Load on inverter bus (or load on mains)
The load position indicates the active way of the static switch (even the output voltage is 0)
By pressing the push button MENU, the user can display several data about the system or the
unit.

4.6 Payment protection

Normally, the payment protection is deactivated when the inverters leave the factory.
This protection is only activated for customers in chronic state of overdue payment.
The protection only can be deactivated introducing the apposite code the customer can get
from CE+T after payment (each inverter has its own code).
See the menu payment protection in parametric menu to deactivate the protection.
When the protection is deactivated it becomes quite invisible for the user.
When the protection is activated, the message limited working is displayed every 5
seconds.
After to run 90 days, the protection avoids to start the module the module becomes
unusable.
If the module run when the limit time is reached, it continues to run but gives alarms each
10 seconds with alarm relay and is definitively stopped after the first stop after that it is
impossible to restart the module without to deactivate the protection.

8. Troubleshooting guide
8.1 You switch ON the local switch and the system dont start

1) If the inverters displays are OFF please check the DC cable, DC input breaker and verify the
presence of a DC voltage at the input of module.

2) Modules can be started through 3 different modes:
- locally through the ON push button
- remotely through STM150 or remote ON/OFF contact
- through the controller SYS3000

OFF RDI REM IS
0% 100%

OFF RDI means that the module is off locally. Press the ON switch for seconds
(All RDI modules have to be locally on before to start with the STM switch.
OFF REM means that the module is OFF remotely either from STM if installed or from Remote
ON/OFF if installed. Check the ON/OFF switch on STM or check your remote ON/OFF contact
OFF IS means that the module is OFF through SYS3000 controller. Check the ON position in
the SYS3000 controller.

If the inverters dont start verify if the local ON push button of each inverter are switched ON :

With a STM 150 the system can only start switching on the local switch of the STM but only
after the local ON push button of each inverter is switched ON.

If the system dont start after the previous verification please contact your supplier.

8.2 Alarms and display status (Messages list)
The unit STM 150 can take a decision to transfer the load on the emergency source for internal or
external reason.
The errors list (see the part 4: USER INTERFACE) gives the various reasons to display alarms
messages. In case the user identifies an internal fault in the STM 150, the unit has to return in
factory for inspection: please contact your supplier.

8.3 Menu in Factory mode.
Factory mode is a helpful menu for our engineers when you are in contact with them to analyse a
specific problem on site
By giving those information to our R&D engineers they can help you and focus directly to your
problem.
To enter in Factory mode press the push button for at least 2 seconds
