NUTRIENT BROTH

INTENDED USE

Nutrient Broth is a general usage medium for a large variety of microorganisms without particular
nutritional requirements. Its formula complies with the directives of the French J .O. of August 8, 1972
for the detection of the intrinsic inhibitory capacity of cosmetic products.

PRINCIPLES

- Nutrient Broth is composed of a mixture of Tryptone and meat extract, which aids microbial growth.
- Sodium chloride is included to maintain osmotic equilibrium.

PREPARATION

- Dissolve 20.0 g of dehydrated medium (BK003) in 1 liter of distilled or deionized water.
- Stir slowly until complete dissolution.
- Dispense in tubes or flasks.
- Sterilize in an autoclave at 121C for 15 minutes.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

- Inoculate the medium with purified cultures or with other type of mixed microflora inocula.
- Incubate at the required optimal temperature, aerobically or in a CO
2
-enriched atmosphere,
depending on the nature of the bacteria to be cultured.

RESULTS

Growth is shown by turbidity resulting from microbial multiplication.
