Huawei Technologies Proprietary 1-1 Chapter 1 1.1 I. II. Overview Brief Introduction Quidway AR 28-10/28-11 Routers are developed independently by Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Huawei Technologies) for the enterprise-level networks. Depending on the network size, Quidway AR 28-10/28-11 Routers can either be the core routers on the medium-and-small-sized enterprise networks, or the access routers for the network branches on some large-sized enterprise networks. Quidway AR 28-10/28-11 Routers adopt modular design and provide multiple MIMs (Multifunctional Interface Modules) and SICs (Smart Interface Cards). In addition, they provide three types of host: AC-powered host, DC-powered host and RPS-powered host. Therefore, Quidway AR 28-10/28-11 Routers are suitable for the application in the carrier-level networks, such as telecom management networks and billing networks. Quidway AR 28-10/28-11 Routers adopt high speed PowerPC microprocessor and the VRP (Versatile Routing Platform), a network operation system platform developed by Huawei Technologies. Besides the benefit of simple configuration, VRP provides rich network security features, and supports terminal access, SNA (Systems Network Architecture)/DLSw (Data-Link Switching), VoIP (Voice over IP), IP multicast, and abundant QoS (Quality of Service) features. Thereby, Quidway AR 28-10/28-11 Routers can operate together with other Quidway series routers and Ethernet switches to provide overall end-to-end network solutions for the medium-and-large-sized enterprises. Quidway AR 28-10/28-11 Router provides the following features: High-performance processor Quidway AR 28-10/28-11 Router uses high-performance processor to process all the integrated interface data integrated. All the performance indices, such as packet processing capacity, maximum traffic on interfaces, delay, frame drop rate, restoration period after the overloading of the system and system reset period, can meet users requirements. Multiple interface card/interface module options Quidway AR 28-10/28-11 Router provides 2 SIC slots, 1 MIM slot and dozens of SICs and MIMs. The available interfaces include synchronous/asynchronous serial interface, asynchronous serial interface, T1/cT1/PRI interface, E1/cE1/PRI interface, Installation Manual Quidway AR 28-10/28-11 Routers Chapter 1 Overview

BRI S/T and U interfaces, FCM (Fast Connect Modem) interface, 10/100Mbps Ethernet interface (including circuit interface and fiber interface), FXO/FXS/E&M interface, cE1/PRI voice interface, etc. The user can change or extend SICs or MIMs as needed. Thereby, the investment that has been made can be protected to the maximum degree. Supporting voice function The router supports multiple voice interface modules. The following interfaces are provided: cE1/PRI, cT1/PRI and FXS/FXO/E&M, which can be connected to telephone, FAX, and PBX. cE1/PRI or cT1/PRI interface can be connected to the E1or T1 interface of PBX, interworking with GK and directly provide VoIP access. Due to the adoption of high-speed CPU and DSP (Digital Signal Processor) technologies, the voice quality can satisfy users demands. If it is applied between the headquarters of an enterprise and its branches, the cost of long distance calls within the enterprise will be saved greatly. Supporting multiple channels of asynchronous serial interface access Connected to PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) via the asynchronous serial interface, the router can work as a small Internet access server. With an analog Modem interface card (options: SIC-1AM and SIC-2AM), the router can be directly connected to PSTN to serve as a small access server. Providing Ethernet access solution Through extending SICs and MIMs, Quidway AR 28-10/28-11 Router can provide multiple forms of Ethernet interfaces, such as fiber interface/circuit interface, 10Mbps or 10/100Mbps auto-sensing interface. Thereby, the networking capability of the router can be significantly improved. Data security Supports ID authentication protocols, including PAP (Password Authentication Protocol), CHAP (Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol), data RADIUS (Remote Authentication Dial in User Service), and VoIP RADIUS. Implements firewall to prevent invasions from external networks. Supports VPN (Virtual Private Network, including GRE, L2TP) and provides IPSec (IP Security) and IKE (Internet Key Exchange) technologies. Hence, the security of the user private network in the Internet environment can be guaranteed. Provides backup solutions based on the backup center technology.
