lesson is the start of the preschool age lessons, going to the Reminders preschool on Thursday needing to have a background knowledge on what a preschool age child is capable of. Learning about the developmental milestones that preschool age children move through, physical, social emotional and cognitively. We are also exploring the different social patterns that children experience with play. I want the students to be aware of what a child needs to have mastered before starting kindergarten and understand the importance of reading to children and making books relevant to life situations.

What the developmental milestones for preschool age kids are Know what kindergarten readiness looks like Students will be able to: Identify the common types of social patterns and types of play preschool age children engage in. Understand the four developmental milestones and be able to give examples of each for preschool children. Identify what key factors are for a child to be developmentally ready for kindergarten. Give two or more reasons why reading to children is essential for development. Last week we discussed developmental appropriate toys and developmentally what toddlers and infants are capable of and developmentally starting to do. Going off that set we are going to analyze developmentally what preschool age kids are competent of doing. We are going to observe the preschool children on Thursday and want the students have an idea what preschool children are like and developmentally capable of doing. Main points I want the students to take away from this lesson is that play is important for development of children. What the types of social patterns are for preschool age kids, and how they chose to play. Knowing important developmental milestones for the preschool kids to grow and become school age children. Then having an understanding for what some actual requirements are for kids to start kindergarten. Using objects, props, and tools around the room I want you to Role Play this different Social Pattern that children demonstrate. Be creative Social Patterns 1. UNOCCUPIED BEHAVIOR: The child is not involved in any particular activity. He/she just observes what seems interesting at the time. When nothing of interest is happening, he/she will walk around, look around, or play with his/her fingers, hair, etc. The child often appears to be day dreaming.

2. ONLOOKER BEHAVIOR: This behavior involves watching other children play. The child may talk to the children whoa re playing but does not become actively involved. The onlooker wants to be close enough to interact with the children who are playing whereas the unoccupied childs interest keeps shifting to anything that interests him/her at the moment. (TODDLERS)

3. SOLITARY PLAY: This type of play involves a child playing alone. He/she has no interest in anyone else or that they are doing. The toys he/she plays with are different from those the other children are playing with. He/she is totally involved in a personal activity. (INFANTS)

4. PARALLEL PLAY: This type of play involves a child playing beside other children. There is no actual interaction, but the toys are similar. The child is playing beside the other children rather than with them. (2-3 YEARS)

5. ASSOCIATIVE PLAY: This type of play involves a child playing with other children. The children share toys and interact with one another. Children are involved in similar but not identical activity. There is no specific organization of activities. Each child does what he/she wishes but is a part of a large group. (3 YEAR SCHOOL AGE)

6. COOPERATIVE PLAY: This type of play involves organization. The child is a part of a group that has a specific purpose in mind such as making an art project or playing a game. There are usually leaders and followers in this type of play.
