Personal Learning Plan Career Goals: To utilize my education in Social Work to better the lives and be an advocate for

children. Timetable: May 2014: Graduate with a B.S.W from Wayne State University. June 2014: Begin the Advanced Standing Masters of Social Work program through Wayne State University. May 2015: Graduate from Wayne State University with my Masters in Social Work. September 2015: Secure a position as a Social Worker in a professional setting. June 2016: Complete the Association of Social Work Boards Exam (ASWB). 2016-onwards: Utilize my experience in Social Work to obtain a career in order to better the lives of children.

Learning Plan:

1. Learning Goal: I want to learn how to most effectively use my learned skills in order to make a positive impact on childrens lives. 2. Rationale: I want to become a social worker that works for children, in multiple capacities. I wish to experience different placements and situations in order to strengthen my education and experience out in the field. I am presently enrolled in a field practicum experience at Bethany Christian Services, providing support to the Foster Care Adoption team. I wish to experience different placements due to the fact that I wish to be the most wellrounded Social Worker possible. I wish to be able to learn different techniques for reporting, evaluation, one on one interaction, etc. 3. Learning Objective Within five years of todays date, I will be able to: a) Apply the experiences obtained through my Masters education in a professional setting. b) Describe and discuss policy as it pertains to children, and how I must work in accordance to such policy when practicing Social Work. c) Manage a full caseload while upholding the Social Work Code of Ethics. 4. Action Plan

I plan to learn as much as possible during the rest of my placement at Bethany Christian Services and asking questions, in order to best be prepared for my masters placement. I then plan on using my experience to build a caseload while in my placement that both challenges me and strengthens my understanding of Social Work and its different applications. Further, I will complete all courses needed to graduate with my M.S.W, and will complete all assignments that fulfill the competencies defined in the student handbook. I plan to utilize the experiences and personal stories of individuals at my placement and in my classes, in order to build my knowledge base. In addition, I will continue to research professional literature, in order to be aware of new strategies when working with my desired client base. 5. Social Support I intend to share this plan with my supervisors, M.S.W instructors, and other social work students in my program. I will accept any constructive criticism, and advice that is provided by any of the aforementioned individuals. 6. Evaluation I will revisit my personal learning plan in five years time and evaluate how I have met my expectations and goals throughout the timeline established. In addition to my learning plan, I will use my portfolio as a base to build my experiences on. The document that will prove my success for my goals will be my M.S.W. degree, as well as the documentation stating that I have become a fully licensed Social Work after the completion of the ASWB.
