Fijis foreign reserve remains at an alltime record of $1.8billion. Attorney-General Aiyaz SayedKhaiyum said this was a clear indication of the how good the country is doing. Mr Sayed-Khaiyum also said that Fiji had seen consistent economic growth just three times over its brief independent history. There are only three times in Fijis history when the economy has grown consistently over four years. One was after independence when Monasavu was being built, one was between 1992 and 1996 when a couple of the bigger hotels were being built and one is now. Under the Bainimarama Government, for the past four years, we have had sustained economic growth.

The Fiji Corrections Service has denied claims circulating on social media alleging that assaults by corrections officers led to the death of inmate, Viliame Tawake. In an official statement issued the corrections service stated that Mr Tawake had suffered from a short illness. Mr Tawake was in fact taken to the hospital on February 28 after suffering a short illness. He was released from the hospital on Saturday morning (March 1). (On) Saturday evening; he was escorted back to the hospital and was released on Sunday morning (March 2) after he was treated by the medical
authorities. On Sunday night, his illness recurred and became more severe and while arrangements were still being made for his transportation to the hospital, Mr Tawake passed away. Meanwhile, Mr Tawakes family is disputing reports on social media that he had severe injuries. Speaking to the media, Mr Tawakes wife, Maria Makarita, said they only saw swelling and blisters on the right side of his face and that he had also bitten his tongue. She said the family could not determine reports on social media that Mr Tawake suffered severe injuries because they were only allowed to see his body from his neck upwards in order to identify him. Ms Makarita said. (We didnt dress his body at the hospital because the nurse informed us that his body had become soft. It was wrapped in cloth with plastic and a masi (tapa cloth). Ms Makarita said what really upset her was the fact that the corrections service did not contact her to inform her that her husband had been ill and was taken to the hospital twice before his death. He died on Monday morning (March 3) and when the officers came to convey the news of his death they informed me that he had been ill and was taken to the hospital twice during the weekend. Why didnt they call me when he had been taken to the hospital? Ms Makarita said the family was still awaiting the post mortem examination result.

26 new homes have been opened as part of rehab relief efforts for Tropical Cyclone Evan which struck Fiji in December 2012. The newly opened homes in Sigatoka and Ba, brings the total number of homes opened this year to 259. Commissioner Western Commander Joeli Cawaki said the development reflects governments objective to return the lives of those affected to normalcy. Commander Cawaki said apart from providing new homes, government had provided other forms of assistance through various ministries including agriculture, fisheries, social welfare, women and poverty alleviation
programmes. These have been done to provide people with income generating projects so that Fijians are able to contribute positively to their families, the society and the nation as a whole as they tried to return their lives back to normalcy, he said. In Sigatoka, Provincial Administrator Nadroga/Navosa Peni Koro urged people to make use of the assistance in moving their families out of poverty. There is a need to move away from the hand out mentality and start helping yourselves. These homes are small way of thanking you owners on your continued contribution to the nation, Koro said.

The High Court in Suva after a retrial has reduced the jail term of a 27-yearold woman who was sentenced to life for drowning her two daughters in January, 2008. Ronika Devi who pleaded guilty to the charges of manslaughter and infanticide was handed a 2 years imprisonment suspended for 3 years by Judge Justice Janaka Bandara. Devi was accused of drowning her daughters; Tanisa Pratap (1 year and 9 months old) and an unnamed baby girl (20 days old) in the Rewa River after having a heated argument with her husband after he failed to return home with diapers.
The court accepted psychiatric evidence that Devi was severely depressed when she committed the acts. Justice Bandara ruled that Devi's deed was a serious insult to mothers who have high expectations for their childrens future and that the failure of her husband to return home with diapers is a lame excuse to take two lives of innocent girls. But he noted her willingness to plead guilty to the killings, that she is a first offender, is not likely to repeat the crime and that the length of time she had already spent in jail waiting for a conclusion to her case, were sufficient reasons to reduce her term.
Travellers heading to the Pacific Islands are being warned of a dengue fever outbreak. Fiji has reported more than 10,000 cases of the illness since October last year, including 12 deaths. Dengue fever has also emerged in French Polynesia, Vanuatu and New Caledonia. Auckland has seen 35 cases so far this year 24 of which came from Fiji. "Dengue fever can be a severe illness," says medical officer of health Dr Simon Baker. "Those who travel to the Pacific frequently are at risk of repeat infections with different strains of the dengue virus." Travellers planning to enter the Pacific region are being warned to exercise caution against mosquito bites. Dengue fever symptoms start with a high fever and severe headache, followed by nausea, vomiting and joint or muscle pain.
The bodies of two teenage cousins reported missing last Saturday were discovered in the Nadi River on Monday evening, leaving a family in heartache. The victims fathers are brothers and a search was mounted for them after they had gone swimming on Saturday afternoon and failed to reappear. One of the victims, 15-year-old Philip Abhishek, was a fourth form student of Mulomulo Secondary School and along with his 17-year-old cousin, was found in the Namotomoto area of the Nadi River. Philips tearful mother wept openly while describing her only son as relatives gathered in their Megunyeh,
The illness can last up to 10 days, but people can feel depressed and tired for weeks. As there is no vaccine, the only way to prevent dengue fever is to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes. Travellers should wear lightly coloured clothing that covers arms and legs, as well as a hat and shoes. They're also advised to wear insect repellent and stay in air-conditioned accommodation with door and window screens. Those who return from the islands feeling unwell should seek medical advice. Seventy- Seven (77) per cent of the sixty four new cases on people living with HIV in Fiji recorded last year fall in the age category of 20 years to 39 years. This has been revealed in the latest statistics released by the Ministry of Health. A total of 546 HIV positive cases were recorded in Fiji Since 1989 with heterosexual being the main mode of transmission followed by prenatal and homosexual spread at 5 per cent each with a transmission among bisexuals at 1 per cent. This increase has caused the Ministry of Health to encourage HIV tests to the public. This assists clinics to do a better follow up of patients and ensure they are on HIV treatment. Early detection of positive cases has reduced the number of patients suffering from any other related infections and even death. The ministry says that early detection also allows HIV/AIDS positive persons
the opportunity to utilize the available antiretroviral drug that contributes toward improving quality of life and prevents mother to child transmission of HIV for pregnant women. With HIV treatment being available for pregnant mothers it is possible for children to be born negative. Members of the public are reminded to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. This can be done by abstaining, engaging in safer sexual practices, having one sexual partner (being faithful) and refraining from sharing needles. The 2011 HIV/AIDS Amendment Decree protects the affected and infected HIV persons in Fiji. The HIV/AIDS Board, through the ministry, continues to raise awareness on HIV/AIDS and encourages members of the public to contact their nearest health facilities for more information or visit the HIV/STI clinics based in the three main divisions of Fiji.

Pregnant mothers at the Colonial War memorial Hospital should soon see changes as the Ministry of Health promises to get in 200 more beds for the maternity units, delivery suites and operating theatres. This will be commissioned this year after close to $30million has been injected into efforts to improve facilities at the CWMH in Suva. This is part of Governments plan to upgrade infrastructure and enhance human resources. Health Minister, Dr Neil Sharma said the East Wing (CWM) was undergoing some modifications with plans to include 200 beds at the maternity units, delivery suites and operating theatres that would be commissioned this year. Our focus is nationwide with nursing stations, health centers, sub -divisional
hospitals receiving facelift, Dr Sharma said. He said the ministry had plans to reduce wastage and practice better procurement methods in the pharmaceutical areas. This is a complex issue with the global market changing, population movement in country, transportation in/ out of countries and changing patterns of prescribing, he said. Our efficiency levels are more robust, wastage markedly reduced and better procurement, storage and distribution are in place. The minister is confident that government investment in infrastructure will allow the ministry to focus on improving human skills, customer focus and ownership of new services and technology.
Fiji will compete in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in July, ending years of isolation following the 2006 military coup. The Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group made the decision late last week to partially ease Fiji's suspension from the Commonwealth ahead of national elections planned for September. Fiji was suspended from the Commonwealth in 2009 after it refused to go ahead with elections that year. The Fijian government says the
decision is recognition of the progress Fiji is making towards the introduction of its first genuine democracy. And it says it's looking forward to regaining full Commonwealth membership in due course. With the 2014 Commonwealth Games only four months away, Fiji Sports and National Olympic Committee chief executive Lorraine Marr says different sport bodies will decide if they have sufficient time to prepare.

Dr Brij Lal reminds schools of zerotolerance policy after school visits expose incidents The Ministry of Education has received an alarming number of cases related to corporal punishment. This was confirmed by the Permanent Secretary, Dr Brij Lal, during his visits to several schools in Taveuni. I am sorry to say there have been several being reported to my office is alarming and therefore let me remind you that Ministry has zero tolerance on corporal punishment, Dr Lal said. Teachers need to have empathy for students. They should love, care and give attention to the needs of every child who is special at school. Teachers were told that any reported case of corporal punishment would lead to suspension or termination of teaching licenses without police
investigation. The Government has made education more accessible for the Fijian children by providing free education grant incentives at primary and secondary level, therefore teachers need to understand the main reason for children being present in schools, Dr Lal said. Meanwhile, the ministry strongly advised reminded teachers about the importance of reading. Teachers need to make requests to head teachers to purchase reading books for the different grade levels at school with the school grant in place. Remove outdated books which do not encourage reading in the library. Children should be encouraged to read from an early age and as primary school teachers your role in promoting reading among children is crucial, he said.
The Dengue branch of the US Center for Disease Control is another agency that is responding to the Minister for Healths call for assistance to help Fiji in the recent Dengue outbreak. National adviser for Communicable Disease Dr Mike Kama said laboratory support is one form of assistance provided by the US Center for Disease Control to the Ministry. He said this laboratory support allows for a small number of patient serum samples and also some tissue samples from dengue fatal cases to be sent for reference testing to the United States. Dr Kama added that the objective of sending these tissue samples from fatal cases of suspected dengue fever is to determine whether the cause of death is in fact dengue fever. He said one of the reasons for patients serum samples for further testing is to determine whether the dengue strain
circulating in the country continues to be the Dengue Virus 3 strain or whether there is a competing Dengue Virus strain present. Kama said dengue testing on tissue samples is not routinely done in most laboratories in the world, therefore the Ministry of Health is fortunate that the Center for Disease Control can facilitate this for the Country. He added that the challenge at the moment is that the process of sending the samples across is taking a little longer as the freight services between Fiji and the US cannot fast-track their administrative process to facilitate quick sending of the samples. Meanwhile there have been 12 confirmed deaths due to dengue fever so far and one case is highly suspicious. Health Ministrys Dr Mike Kama said from October 30th last year to March 10th this year, 11,359 confirmed clinical cases have been recorded.
The Fijian government has extended the amnesty period for late birth registrations. The decision was made following a huge demand for the registration service in the Lau Group. Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said amnesty was granted after the government team which is currently conducting registrations in the Group requested for an extension. The demand for this service is so high in Lau that the team needs more time to finish their work and make sure no Fijian is left behind, he said. Sayed-Khaiyum said the response to governments amnesty has been very strong across the whole country, especially in rural and maritime communities.
Revitalising Fijis rice industry in the Northern Division will be a key objective behind regular meetings to be held between Government and the Rewa Rice Company in Dreketi. Government, through the Office of the Commissioner Northern, will now meet with the rice company in the North on a monthly basis as part of efforts to boost production. Acting Commissioner Northern Alipate Bolalevu said with a new rice mill expected to open soon in Dreketi, the focus now is to ensure consistent production. There were some constraints that were highlighted by the past task force and this included the budget allocated by the government, land preparations,
machineries and harvesting, Mr Bolalevu said. We have to contribute positively and be able to revitalize the rice production and also improve the mill production. He added that the new mill is expected to also secure employment for those living in nearby communities. Rewa Rice Mill manager, Ashrit Pratap said the biggest constraint the mill had was the age of the mill and its frequent breakdown. Mr Pratap said that the new mill should be up and running by the end of July. We are pleased that Government has allocated funding for the mills. We will ensure that we produce the best quality rice for market as well as local.

Japanese girl Sakurako Uehara remains in a serious condition in hospital, as she prepares for facial reconstruction treatment. The seven-year-old girl was savaged by four Staffordshire bull terrier-cross dogs two weeks ago at a Murupara property. Sakurako will have to undergo medical procedures three times a week for the "foreseeable future," doctors said. She was transferred to Middlemore Hospital, where she was now in a serious, but stable condition. A Middlemore spokeswoman said last week that Sakurako would need three medical procedures a week as part of reconstructions efforts. Plastic surgeon Zachary Moaveni said the attack was horrific and sustained, and that Sakurako would have been conscious throughout the attack and the medical process afterwards. "I don't think any of us were prepared for what we were going to see," he said. Sakurako had extensive injuries to her face and all her limbs. She had sustained more than 100 bites "any of which would make you wince," he said. He credited the retrieval team that first
responded to the attack with saving Sakurako's life. The medical team were now concentrating on cleaning, "debriding" the wounds and keeping her free from infection. He estimated she would be undergoing reconstruction efforts, probably until she reached adulthood. Intensivist Dr David Galler said Sakurako's wounds were "grossly contaminated". "She's got some risks, clearly, largely from infection," he said "She will be with us for some time." The injuries were complex as dog bites involved crushing injuries as well as the cuts.

A US student has been jailed for 18 months for hacking the online accounts of Miss Teen USA and more than 100 other women in several countries and threatening to publish nude photos of them. Jared James Abrahams surrendered in September to FBI agents probing socalled "sextortion" cases, in which he made demands in return for agreeing not to release the pictures. The investigation involved multiple victims in California, Canada, Moldova and Russia. The 20-year-old Abrahams, who hacked into as many as 150 online accounts and forced victims to engage in Skype sessions in which he convinced two teenagers to undress, made a plea deal with prosecutors in November. He pleaded guilty to four counts three of extortion and one of computer hacking - according to the US Attorney's office in Los Angeles. The most high-profile victim was Cassidy Wolf, who won the Miss Teen USA pageant in August. She and Abrahams graduated in 2012 from the same school in Temecula, about 150 kilometres south-east of Los Angeles. The plea agreement detailed how, starting last year and continuing until June, the computer science student hacked into computers, email and social media accounts. The pictures, sometimes nude in nature, were taken from webcams, said the plea deal, adding that Abrahams "extorted at least 12 young women in their late teens or early 20s in this

manner". Ms Wolf called investigators in March after receiving threatening emails containing nude photos of herself. The sender said he would distribute the pictures "all over the internet" unless she either sent him a personal video of herself, joined him on Skype for a fiveminute video chat during which she would have to do whatever he said, or sent him "good quality pics" of herself. "As digital devices, email accounts and social media accounts now contain the most intimate details of the public's daily lives, the impact of this type of hacking and extortion becomes more pronounced," prosecutors wrote. "In some cases, this type of criminal behaviour can be life-changing for the victims - especially for vulnerable victims who may feel it is impossible to rebuild their tarnished reputations." Abrahams was sentenced during a hearing in US District Court in Santa Ana at which he apologised to his victims and "acknowledged the violation and the severity of his conduct," defence lawyer Alan Eisner said. Mr Eisner said Abrahams' parents also spoke at the hearing, asking the judge to take into account their son's age and struggles with Asperger's syndrome. "Certain people are motivated by different things, and Jared's motivation we believe was not meant to be predatory or evil," Mr Eisner said. "We will acknowledge that that is the result, but his motivation was substantially to have social connections he was simply incapable of having.
Human body parts fell from the sky in the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah on Sunday, with police saying they could be the remains of someone trapped in an aircraft's undercarriage bay. "Police received a telephone call at 2:30am from a witness reporting the fall of human remains at an intersection in Mushrefa neighbourhood" in the Red Sea city, spokesman Nawaf bin Naser al-Bouq said in a statement. Initial indications were that the remains "fell from a plane's landing gear," said Mr Bouq, adding that investigations were ongoing. The report came after a Saudi Arabian Airlines jet made an emergency landing in the city of Medina in the west of the kingdom, injuring 29 people on Sunday. That aircraft had been travelling from Iran's second city of Mashhad with 315

people on board. A spokesman for the General Authority of Civil Aviation said there was no connection between the emergency landing in Medina and the Jeddah incident. In a desperate attempt to cross borders, some people at poorly monitored airports climb inside the bays housing aircraft landing gear. Most of them freeze to death once the aircraft reach cruising altitude, but some survive. In 2010, the head of Beirut's airport security resigned after the death of a man who managed to hide in the undercarriage bay of a Saudi-bound jet. The man's body was found by a maintenance worker who was inspecting the gear of the Saudi-owned Nas Air Airbus A-320 after it landed in Riyadh.

Nash said Flaherty had a "tough, tough job" during the recession and that he performed well, but that many people still haven't recovered from the recession. "There are other decisions that Jim Flaherty and the Conservative government took that certainly our party disagreed with in terms of cutting programs and services, changes to [Employment Insurance], bringing in austerity measures rather than continuing with some modest stimulus to help the economy fully recover," Nash said. "There are political and economic differences. Having said that, no one would doubt the sincerity and work ethic of Jim Flaherty." 'Hack and slash' Liberal Deputy Leader Ralph Goodale said it will be tough for the government to fill the hole created by Flaherty's departure from the finance role. "I think he'll also be criticized for that focus [on cutting spending] because it was to the exclusion of everything else and, quite frankly, you cannot hack and slash your way to prosperity. You also need to invest in the underpinnings of growth, like infrastructure, for example, and post-secondary education," Goodale said. "We will disagree about his policy accomplishments or failures, that's natural in political life. But on a day like this when he has stepped aside, I certainly want to wish him well."

Government is delivering on its Mental Health Action Plan to improve care for patients with severe addiction and mental health needs by launching an Assertive Outreach Team in Vancouver and opening a new Acute Behavioural Stabilization Unit at St. Paul's Hospital. "In the past, we have seen patients with severe mental illness and addiction cycle through our health-care and justice system," said Health Minister Terry Lake. "The Vancouver team is the first of its kind in B.C. and, combined with the expansion of services at St. Paul's Hospital, we will be able to provide more complete and supportive care to this vulnerable patient group." The Assertive Outreach Team includes a nurse, social worker, psychiatrist, physician and Vancouver Police Department staff. Members of the team work together to support patients who suffer from severe addictions and mental health issues and transition them from local emergency departments in Vancouver to appropriate community services. "We recognized that individuals with severe mental health and addiction challenges have difficulty connecting to community supports after their medical needs have been met," said Anne McNabb, Vancouver Coastal Health's director of mental health and addiction, inner city. "This team takes a rapid, hands-on approach to ensure patients are completing the transition from acute care to community care." The Assertive Outreach Team is a collaboration between Vancouver
Coastal Health, the Vancouver Police Department, Providence Health Care and Mental Health Emergency Services. The $1.2-million program is expected to substantially increase Vancouver Coastal Health's capacity to serve clients who are not currently engaged with traditional mental health and addiction services. "Our ultimate goal would be to guarantee the safety and well-being of every person we encounter who is suffering from mental illness," said VPD Inspector Ralph Pauw. "Assertive Outreach Teams in our communities bring us a step closer to that goal." The Assertive Outreach Team will help support patients transitioning from the new Acute Behavioural Stabilization Unit at St. Paul's. This new unit is
open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and provides nine dedicated emergency psychiatric beds located in a separate area of St. Paul's emergency department. A first of its kind for Vancouver, the unit offers short stay admissions (up to 48 hours) and was renovated to increase the capacity of St. Paul's emergency department to treat this complex patient population. "St. Paul's Hospital has seen a 63% increase in the number of patients it treats with mental illness and addictions issues since 2009," said Dr. Anna Nazif, medical director emergency psychiatry, St. Paul's Hospital. "This area provides us with an opportunity to further improve the care we provide to patients."
The unit is staffed with an interdisciplinary team of emergency physicians, emergency nurses, psychiatrists, registered psychiatric nurses, psychiatric assessment nurses and social workers, and receives input from addictions consultants. Staffing levels have been increased to include a clinical nurse leader/educator, an emergency room nurse and a social worker. "Addressing the interplay that often exists between severe addiction and mental illness is an important step to ensure we can provide appropriate care to this vulnerable population," said Dianne Doyle, president and CEO of Providence Health Care. "As the primary hospital serving Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, St. Paul's Hospital is committed to further enhancing our care to patients who have mental illness and the complexity of co-occurring illnesses such as addiction." These two supports are part of the strategies being developed in response to the report, Improving Health Services for Individuals with Severe Addiction and Mental Illness. The Ministry of Health is making available a total of $20 million for regional health authorities to invest in more local programs and supports to improve care for this high needs population. In November 2013, the Ministry of Health created a mental health action plan to reduce barriers and service gaps, and support evidencebased solutions for patients with severe addictions and mental illness.

Next: What you should say instead of "Hurry up!" "Hurry Up!" Who in this world of back-to-back appointments, overbooked schedules, sleep deficits, and traffic snarls hasn't uttered these immortal words? Certainly every parent whose toddler can't find his shoes or blankie or who's blissfully oblivious of anything but putting on his socks "all by self!" has. Consider, though, your tone of voice when you implore a child to hurry, and how often you say it. If you're starting to whine, screech, or sigh every day, with your hands on your hips and your toes tapping, beware. There's a tendency when we're rushed to make our kids feel guilty for making us rush. The guilt may make them feel bad, but it doesn't motivate them to move faster. It got so hectic at my house in the mornings, I hated that the last image my kids had of me was being angry. So I made a pact with myself. No matter what, I wouldn't yell or roll my eyes even if someone spilled their Cheerios or asked me to find something just as we were heading out. Rather than hectoring ("I told you to turn off that TV five minutes ago!"), he looks for calm ways to speed things along (he turns off the set himself). Next: Why "Great job!" isn't the
best praise "Great Job!" or "Good Girl!" What could possibly be wrong with praise? Positive reinforcement, after all, is one of the most effective tools a parent has. The trouble comes in when the praise is vague and indiscriminate. Tossing out "Great job!" for every little thing your child does -- from finishing his milk to drawing a picture -- becomes meaningless. Kids tune it out. They can also tell the difference between praise for doing something rote or simple and praise for a real effort. To get out of the habit of such effusiveness: Praise only those accomplishments that require real effort. Finishing a glass of milk doesn't cut it. Neither does drawing a picture, if your child is the kind who makes dozens of them every day. Be specific. Instead of "Beautiful job," say, "What bright, happy colors you picked for the dog's spots." Or "I see you drew a picture of the story that we read this morning." Praise the behavior rather than the child: "You were so quiet with your puzzle while I was finishing that paperwork, just like I asked." How much nicer if I'd said that to my daughters instead of transforming into a spewing volcano. Luckily, I'm sure to get another opportunity tomorrow.

Eating foods that contain vitamin C may reduce your risk of the most common type of hemorrhagic stroke, says a study. Vitamin C is found in fruits and vegetables such as oranges, papaya, peppers, broccoli and strawberries. Hemorrhagic stroke is less common than ischemic stroke, but is more often deadly. The study involved 65 people who had experienced an intra-cerebral hemorrhagic stroke, or a blood vessel rupture inside the brain. They were compared to 65 healthy people. Participants were tested for the levels of vitamin C in their blood. Forty-one percent of cases had normal levels of vitamin C, 45 percent showed depleted levels of vitamin C and 14 percent were
considered deficient of the vitamin. On average, the people who had a stroke had depleted levels of vitamin C, while those who had not had a stroke had normal levels of the vitamin. 'Our results show that vitamin C deficiency should be considered a risk factor for this severe type of stroke, as were high blood pressure, drinking alcohol and being overweight in our study,' said study author Stphane Vannier with Pontchaillou University Hospital in Rennes, France. Vannier added that vitamin C appeared to have other benefits like creating collagen, a protein found in bones, skin and tissues. Vitamin C deficiency has also been linked to heart disease.
As one grows older, one is less likely to yawn when others do, a recent study has found According to scientists, contagious yawning is linked more closely to a person's age than their ability to empathise, as previously thought. It also showed a stronger link to age than tiredness or energy levels, a report said. Researchers are now looking at whether the ability to catch yawns from other people is inherited, with the hope of helping treat mental health disorders. Autism and schizophrenia sufferers are reportedly less able to catch yawns, researchers said, so understanding the genes that might code for contagious yawning could illuminate new pathways for treatment. "This is the first study to look at a whole bunch of factors. It is the largest study, in terms of the number of people involved, to date," she said, adding that she did not know why contagious yawning decreased with age. She added that although age was the most important predictor of contagious yawning, only 8 percent of the variation in whether or not a participant yawned was explained by their age. "The vast
majority of variation in the contagious yawning response was just not explained." The study used questionnaires to test the participants' empathy, levels of tiredness and sleep patterns. During the study, 328 participants were shown a three-minute video showing other people yawning. Each subject had to click a button every time they yawned. Overall, 68 percent of the participants yawned. Of those, 82 percent of people aged under 25 yawned, compared with 60 percent of people aged between 25 and 49, and 41 percent of people aged over 50. The professor of psychology at the University of Maryland, said the study was "unique" as it marked the first time a link between ageing and contagious yawning had been shown. He said the study would "help to get down to the neurological nitty-gritty of contagious behaviours" and mental health disorders such as autism and schizophrenia. The findings could also help to understand why laughing and coughing were so contagious.

How To Cope With Fatigue After A Stroke New research suggests that dreams of everyday lives.
returning to everyday life as it was before the stroke may contribute to the patients' experiences of fatigue and that it may be a help to establish new routines instead of trying to regain old ones. "Having a stroke can be a devastating experience, and those affected by one often feel that their lives are turned upside down. For many patients, life after a stroke is therefore about reestablishing life as it was before the stroke. But this is very rarely possible and thus a source of frustration for stroke patients," ethnologist Michael Andersen from University of Copenhagen, said. Andersen's PhD thesis was carried out in collaboration with a Danish hospital, where doctors found it hard to find a correlation between the size or the impact of the stroke and the individual experiences of fatigue. He located other potential reasons for the fatigue than the patients' brains - their

If you take care of your oral hygiene and avoid pungent foods, but still have bad breath, there is a possibility that you usually remain stressed. When we're stressed, our sympathetic nervous system kicks in. And one consequence of that is that it cuts the production of saliva. As a result, the mouth becomes dry. Anything that dries the mouth makes bad breath worse. The gases released by bacteria are usually contained by saliva and swallowed. But if you have a dry mouth -- known as xerostomia -- the saliva evaporates so the gases are released. Furthermore, the bacteria can stick to the mouth more, making things worse. There are particular types of bacteria found on the tongue that can also contribute to bad breath. You may assume a mouthwash will freshen breath, but some that contain alcohol can actually do the reverse. Sleeping with your mouth open, smoking,
When interviewing the patients Andersen noticed that they no longer related their fatigue to the same objects or actions as they did pre-stroke. "In our everyday lives we link fatigue with specific objects or actions which we hardly even notice; it can be a bed or making a cup of tea in the evening. After a stroke, many patients feel constantly fatigued without being able to locate it," Andersen said. According to him, locating fatigue in other objects and actions than before can be a successful approach when trying to restore an everyday life - not the same as before, but a completely new one. Andersen suggests that stroke patients might learn to cope with their fatigue if they - in collaboration with their own doctor - learned to think of fatigue in relation to specific objects or actions. This could frame the patients' fatigue so it does not become a phenomenon defining their lives.
Tips To Maintain Healthy Joints While Running Managing joint pain is extremely * Strengthen muscles and increase
important but difficult for any runner. So it is essential to keep a check on your body while jogging. A fitness expert shares his tips in managing joint pain to help prevent sporting injuries and maintain healthy strong joints. * Maintain healthy weight: This can be beneficial on joints. One study claimed that losing about a pound of weight delivers almost a four pound reduction in knee joint load for each step. * Warm up/cool down: Invest time to ensure the body is prepared for exercise by undertaking warm-up activities at the start of your session. The cooldown phase will help you to gradually reduce the intensity of activity and soreness in the joints and muscles.
flexibility: Flexibility injury can occur when a joint is taken outside of its comfortable range of motion. A good test of strength and flexibility is the wall squat. Stand facing a wall, with your feet just wider than hip-width and your hands on your temples. Try to squat down so your thighs are parallel to the floor, without your knees or any other part of your body touching the wall on the way up or down. Aim to complete five squats standing just an inch away from the wall. * Allow time for recovery: Knee injury can increase the chances of developing and aggravating osteoarthritis in many people. Should injury occur, allow enough time for full recovery and seek professional advice if symptoms persist.
drinking coffee and exercising without hydrating properly also dry out the mouth. Sjogren's syndrome, an auto-immune condition where the body attacks the tear and salivary glands, reducing the production of fluid, can also lead to bad breath brought on by a dry mouth. Another cause of bad breath is salivary stones blocking the salivary glands. These form when food debris reacts with chemicals in the saliva. This crystallises into a stone that can block the salivary ducts, stopping saliva flow and causing dryness and bad breath. Bad breath may also occur if you stick to a low-carb diet. In the absence of carbohydrates for energy, the liver breaks down fat instead. This produces chemicals called ketones, which have a distinct metallic smell. This can also happen in people with uncontrolled diabetes because the liver can't break down sugar, so breaks down fat instead.

"You Dont Have The Talent": Rishi Kapoor Blasts Nawazuddin Siddiqui
A war of words has erupted between two unlikely candidates: Rishi Kapoor and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Both are talented actors, belong to different generations and are poles apart as far as film choices, lineage and career go but that hasnt stopped them from taking potshots at each other, though from the chain of events, it appears Nawazuddin is not willing to take on Rishi who shows no signs of stopping. So how did it all begin? Apparently, Nawazuddins take on clichd romantic and formulaic films and running around trees has had Rishi hopping mad. Rishi, who does not like negative remarks on his profession, apparently said: I have read that some actor named Nawazuddin said that romantic heroes just run around trees! It is difficult to bloody sing songs and romance the heroine. How could he say such a thing? Nawazs reply: What I meant was that when you do the same thing over and over again, for 30 to 40 years, it becomes easy to follow the same format. Ek hi tarah ka romance... it is all so clichd. Well guess what? Rishi wasnt about to let up on this one! He blasted, You (Nawazuddin) havent done it (running around trees) in your life; neither will you get a chance to do it. And you arent capable of doing it either. You dont have the image; you dont have the talent. And Nawaz shot back, He cant say that, I will improve myself. If I had to romance in a film, I will do it differently, whether it works or not. I respect Rishi Kapoor, I am his big fan. If he feels I am an average actor, it is a compliment. Actually, I am below average. He is extremely talented, and I am still trying to be an actor. What next Rishi?

Since the release is just around the corner Ekta has been promoting the film with the former adult actor and is leaving no stone unturned. sex happens in the mind of the person who objectifies. Your mind is dirty when you objectify a woman. A man when he removes his shirt is called a Casanova. When a woman wears something revealing, she is called a Slut. In your house you check her out, in public you ridicule her. For me, Sunny is Silk (The Dirty Picture) in some way. She is a woman who is comfortable with her sexuality. I am honoured working with Sunny. The boys may like some other scenes from the film, but for me, as an actor, she has done such a good job that in the end she takes the film with her and I felt happy for her.

Kirron Kher Termed As An Outsider In Chandigarh, Welcomed With Eggs And Black Flags
Little did Bollywoods favourite Punjabi mom expect that she would receive such a cold welcome in Chandigarh Kirron Khers recent visit to Chandigarh proved to be a disaster. The actor is contesting the Lok Sabha elections this year on behalf of the Bharatiya Janat Party (BJP). Not only was her car pelted with eggs, but there was a section of her own party members labeling her outsider and showing black flags in protest against her nomination from Chandigarh to contest polls. Kirron was accompanied by husband Anupam Kher, who seemed not just happy but extremely supportive about his wifes political aspirations. Ms Kher beat former Union Minister Harmohan Dhawan, Satya Pal Jain, and Chandigarh BJP president Sanjay Tandon to be named as BJPs candidate from Chandigarh. Kirron herself downplayed the whole drama around her visit and rubbished the outsider claims, she said, I am a daughter of Chandigarh. I was born and brought up here. I have lived here. Those opposing me are also from the BJP family. We will pacify them. Kirrons husband actor Anupam Kher seemed positive about his wifes political innings, he said in a recent interview, I am not associated with any political party. I have only campaigned once that was 25 years ago. But I have known Kirron since 1974. For many years she was my friend and she has been my wife for 28 years. If I campaign for anybody that would only be Kirron and I will definitely go. Apart from her own party workers, Kirron will be facing stiff opposition in Chandigarh from Aam Admi Party (AAP) representative and Bollywoods another dimpled beauty Gul Panag, who will also contest elections from Chandigarh this year. Interestingly both these dimpled beauties have had a connection in the past, Gul was dating Kirrons son Sikander Kher for sometime before they parted ways. This election certainly doesnt lack the filmi tadka or masala. There seems to be enough action and drama, however only time will which of these two B-towns dimpled actors will finally emerge a winner in the Lok Sabha polls.
The latest Bollywood buzz is that actress Katrina Kaif has bagged the lead role in, Raees starring SRK. A few days ago, the movie was in the news when Nawazuddin Siddiqui replaced Farhan Akhtar in the film. According to media reports, it seems that Katrina has apparently been offered the film. A source was quoted in the media as saying, Katrina is in talks to play the lead role. They have been discussing it for a while now, but latest developments suggest that she has given them a goahead. This will be her second film with Shah Rukh Khan after Jab Tak Hai Jaan. Post Bang Bang, Katrina will be working on Jagga Jasoos opposite Ranbir Kapoor, but it looks like this film will be pushed ahead. Besides these two films, she doesnt have too much on her plate as of now, so a lead role in Raees is just right for her, another source reportedly added. But reportedly Katrina has denied being offered the film. And reports said the director of the movie, Rahul Dholakia, was not unavailable for a comment. After a successful career as a model, Katrina made her acting debut in 2003, with a role in Kaizad Gustads
box office hit Boom. But after this, Katrina was almost written off. Later, she was seen in a Telugu film a hit romantic comedy Malliswari in 2004. The Bollywood star got her commercial success with such romantic comedies as Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya? and Namastey London and the latter earned her critical acclaim for her performance in the movie. Katrina then appeared in a series of roles in movies that were box-office hits, although she was criticized for having to do very little in male-centric films such as Partner in 2007, Welcome in 2007 and Singh Is Kinng in 2008. The terrorism drama film New York in 2009 marked a turning point in her acting career, which earned her praise as well as a Filmfare Award for Best Actress nomination. Her more prominent roles in hit films are in Raajneeti in 2010, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara in 2011 and Mere Brother Ki Dulhan also in 2011 and Ek Tha Tiger in 2012. She also appeared in the action thriller Dhoom 3 in 2013, which is one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films of all time. Besides acting in films, Katrina also supports charitable organisations, and performs for stage shows.

This food is so good Saajan tries to conceal his blessing and a very strange bond develops that must be seen to be believed. 4. Use a Cosmetic Clay Mask to Soak Up the Oils You do not have to have a special $50 jar of facial mask clay for this. You do not have to put essential oil into your mask (if you dont want to, but you can). All you need is cosmetic clay and water (or apple cider vinegar, which is how I like to do it). Where do you get cosmetic clay? Mountain Rose Herbs carries a variety of it at very reasonable prices (bentonite, french green, rhassoul, and fullers earth). But if you have a local herb shop, the chances are, theyll have some there, too. How to make a blackhead-busting mask with clay:
Again, you can add goodies like rosewater or a drop or two of essential oils to your clay, but this is not necessary for removing blackheads. So the basics are: Combine 1 Tbsp clay with 1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar (or pure water) and stir until you have a paste without lumps in it. Spread over your whole clean face, or just the areas where you have blackheads. Allow this to dry for 1520 minutes. Take a warm, wet washcloth and press it to the mask for a few seconds, and then slowly and gently wipe off. 5. If All Else Fails, Take a Clean Toothbrush to the Area Do not use this method unless all else fails.
This is absolutely the most extreme measure you should go to in clearing your blackheads (with squishing and squeezing being THE most extreme measure there is). Use a dedicated toothbrush only for blackhead cleaning. Do NOT use your mouth toothbrush ever. In
between scrubbing blackheads, dunk your toothbrush in a glass of hydrogen peroxide to keep it clean. How to do this: Using a soft bristled brush (NOTHING FIRMER), pour a small amount of lemon juice on the toothbrush, along with a drop or two of oily-skin friendly oil like jojoba, tamanu, or neem. VERY gently scrub your blackhead areas with the head of your toothbrush. You can rinse with water and reapply with lemon and oil if you feel like you need to. Just do this gently. In circular motions. And dont go crazy. Also, dont do this more than once a week. Dont do it around your eyes. And do NOT do this on any open sores, scratches, or cuts. Ever. Promise? If you avoid anywhere delicate, it should be just fine. I just wanted to be overly dramatic, so you understand that you shouldnt brush your whole face with lemon juice and a toothbrush. An Ounce of Prevention pound of cure and all that. Here are a few ways you can prevent blackheads before they happen. Maybe not always and forever, but most of the time. (I have noticed approximately 3 blackheads on my nose in the last three months, down from seeing them almost every day two years ago, if that makes you feel better.) Ways to prevent blackheads: Dont wash your face with harsh cleansers. This makes your skin overreact and produce more oil, which means your blackheads will be back much faster. DO wash your face twice a day with natural sources. (Say, the no-nonsense daily scrub in the morning and the honey wash with baking soda in the evening.) Wear makeup as little as possible. Wash your pillowcase on a weekly basis (to clean off any dead skin cells and oils your face leaves behind on it). Use an astringent like witch hazel or apple cider vinegar after you wash your face and before you moisturize (this will help get rid of any residual gunkiness and tighten the pores a bit). Once every two weeks, use a facial steam to help open your pores and let them unclog. Consider using the oil cleansing method to wash your face (pop over and read this thread in the Crunchy Community to see why). Make a homemade peel-off mask with gelatin and tomato juice. Blot your face with tissue paper throughout the day to soak up oil before it can accumulate.
Relationships
When a woman hears the words "I want a divorce," the turmoil of the separation can propel her to make some horrible mistakes that can cause a lot of trouble later. A divorce attorney has revealed the 6 biggest mistakes that women make in a divorce. 1. Women should not panic and should go online and find out everything that they need to know. They should meet a lawyer or more than one lawyer and find out what their rights are. Women should remember that they are not going to get kicked out of their home immediately just because their husband is not paying their rent or mortgage anymore and should not get intimidated into agreeing to a settlement before they are ready to. 2. They should not just go for a free consultation and its better if they can avoid it, as they will get better legal advice if they pay for it. 3.Women should not borrow money from family, as they should save those resources for another time. Instead, they should see if they can borrow against their home or get a credit card. If they are financially dependent on their husband, then he is responsible for paying for at least part of their representation. 4. Females should not allow their former spouse to intimidate them, as when their husband tells them that their lawyer just wants to make money, that's an intimidation tactic. Their husband may know how to scare them, but he doesn't know how to scare their lawyer. 5. Women should not commit adultery even if their husband has been carrying on an affair, as starting one of their own will only add emotional heat to their divorce. Many times when wives feel lonely, but husbands get angry, and make everything difficult. 6. They should not demand money before they have made up a budget, as it is important to make one so that all their needs are addressed.
Surely your guy is great, but there are certain things that he does that get you angry. Here is a list of the annoying things he does and how you can deal with it He texts during your date Surely when you see him texting to someone or taking a business call when he's just supposed to be with you can surely get you annoyed. But relationship experts say that this behaviour does not indicate him to be rude. And you don't have to get upset with this behaviour. You can always tell him politely that you thought he'd be spending time with you and not worry about his work when he's out with you. He says, 'I don't care' when you ask for his opinion When guys have no clue about what you want, they go mute. So if you ask their opinion about something they don't know about - they resort to 'I don't care'. Make sure that you let him know of your interests. In case he is bored and does not wish to respond - tell him that his opinion is of great importance to you. He mostly stays quiet when he comes home from work He's usually tired chasing deadlines during work. When he's back from work, make sure you give him some time to spend on his own. If you immediately start bothering him with going out for dinner or talking to him - chances are he might get irritated with you. Being alone for sometime will give him some time to liven up his spirits and recharge his mood before he gets talking to you. He gets irritated with you when you take more time to get ready This is very common. Guys usually take less time to get ready and once they are ready, they get bored waiting for you to get done. Make sure he has something constructive to do once he's ready. Ask him to call up and check whether the reservation at the restaurant is done or ask him to take the dog for a walk while you get ready in the meantime.

"Slow Down, Kids Playing" Signs To Help Keep Children Safe During Spring Break
As spring break is here and drivers are reminded to pay close attention to their surroundings when driving through areas where kids are likely to be present. To help parents and other B.C. residents prepare for the increase in the presence of kids outdoors, BCAA is offering free Slow Down, Kids Playing signs that can be displayed on residential properties in order to help make roads safer for children across the province. According to the BC Coroners Service, over 2,400 child pedestrians are seriously injured and approximately 30 are killed each year in Canada. Kids between 5 and 14 are at the greatest risk for pedestrian-related injuries and fatalities. As the weather warms up, more and more children venture outside to play in their front yards, on their streets and in neighbourhood playgrounds. The Slow Down, Kids Playing signs are a way of reminding drivers to pay close attention when driving through residential areas and near playgrounds and to expect the unexpected. In its efforts to improve road safety efforts, BCAA has identified two key areas of risk for child pedestrians: driver behavior such as speeding, making U-turns, stopping in nostopping zones, and rolling through or backing up into crosswalks and pedestrian distraction, which include the use of cell phones and other personal electronic devices. A study reports that children who talk on cell phones while crossing the street are up to one-third more likely to be hit or nearly hit by a car. Research from the Public Health Agency of Canada also indicates that up to 10 per cent of injuries to pedestrians under the age of 24 were the result of them running into the street without looking for example, because they were running
after a ball. BCAA recommends that drivers, along with parents and guardians take the following precautions to ensure the safety of our kids during spring break and as we move into warmer weather. Tips for drivers: Slow down and watch out for kids in or near school and residential areas, intersections and crosswalks, and be prepared to stop. Look for clues such as "Slow Down, Kids Playing" signs, School Zone signs, patrollers, bicycles, and playgrounds. Expect the unexpected such as kids darting out from between parked cars. Always check for pedestrians when youre backing up, and be aware that kids could be present on any side of the vehicle. Follow the rules of the road yield to pedestrians and do not make U-turns, roll through stop signs or stop in no-stopping zones. Tips for parents/guardians: Teach your kids to find a safe place to cross the road such as patrolled or marked crosswalks. Make sure they look both ways and make eye contact with drivers before they cross the street. Make it a rule for kids to stay off their cell phones or electronic devices while crossing the street make sure they focus on the road and surrounding environment. Teach your kids to look out for parked cars as cars may pull out or start moving when they don't expect it. Make sure your kids wear bright or reflective clothing so they can be seen in the dark or in poor weather. If they ride a bike, make sure they always wear a helmet and clothing with reflective strips. Equip their bike with lights, reflectors and a bell.

Football fans that get in early to purchase venue packs for next years FIFA U-20 World Cup will be rewarded with a chance to witness the spotlight shine on footballs future superstars from less than $20 per match. Ticket prices for FIFAs second largest mens global tournament were unveiled Monday at the conclusion of a 10 day venue visit by FIFAs inspection team. Tickets for the biggest global football festival ever staged in Australasia, will go on sale to the New Zealand football community on April 28, 2014, exactly nine months before the Official Draw will be broadcast live across the globe. Key highlights of the ticket announcement are: - Venue Packs to include all Group Matches and Round of 16 knock out in each stadium - Fans purchasing venue packs get a minimum of 20% off ticket price while stocks last and first access to finals tickets - Adult Venue Packs in each stadium average only $90, children only $30 in 2014. - Football clubs to get cash back on all venue pack purchases - Groups 8+ to claim an even bigger discount - Individual tickets to go on sale after Official Draw in 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup New Zealand 2015 CEO, Dave Beeche, explained that New Zealands football family, which makes up the largest sports participation base in the country, would be the first to access tickets for this landmark event. Our main ambition for this tournament is to fill the stadiums with people, noise, colour and passion in celebration of the worlds biggest global game coming to these shores. We wanted to ensure that price would not be a barrier for kiwis to say I was there when the next global
footballing superstar was discovered. One of the ways to do this was to reduce the price for fans to see as many games at their venue as possible, with venue packs including all group matches and the round of 16 knock out games across the seven venues. Beeche said that the Local Organising Committee had surveyed fans across the country in order to get the ticket pricing right. Within the football community this tournament is seen as the must-see event in 2015, they realise that this may be their only opportunity to see the next Messi or Maradona live in their backyard. We want to reward that commitment by providing a 20% discount on venue packs in 2014. Kiwi football clubs will also benefit with a 5% cash back rebate on all venue packs sold this year,
FIFAs Marion Mayer-Vorfelder, Head of the FIFA U-20 World Cup who will over-see her fifth edition of this tournament in New Zealand, reiterated Beeches comments: New Zealanders will be overwhelmed by the standard and quality of football played in this tournament, it really is the launch pad of our next international footballing superstars and we would urge all sports fans not to miss out on seeing these players in action. The announcement of ticket pricing came at the end of a 10 day tour of New Zealand by a FIFA inspection team, who have been looking at the seven host city stadiums, training venues and hotels to assess their readiness to host the worlds best young footballers. Mayer-Vorfelder said her team had been hugely impressed with facilities across New Zealand as well as the
commitment and enthusiasm shown by the Host Cities and Football Federations. The key to the success of hosting such a globally significant tournament is collaboration with partners. Having met the team responsible for staging this festival of football, we feel hugely confident that the event is in very safe hands in New Zealand. I was fortunate enough to see Lionel Messi play at this tournament only in 2005, and it is this caliber of player which fans in New Zealand will get to see live in 2015. Already I can feel the anticipation building across the country. The FIFA U-20 Trophy was also on display for the ticket announcement in Auckland. New Zealanders will get a chance to see the Trophy as it travels throughout the country from May 5May 30, 2014, concluding exactly one year before the tournament kicks off. The FIFA U-20 World Cup New Zealand 2015 starts on May 30, 2015 and concludes on June 20, 2015. Matches will be played across seven Host Cities Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, Hamilton, New Plymouth, Wellington and Whangarei, Christchurch and Auckland will host the two semi-finals, with the showcase final hosted by Aucklands North Harbour stadium. The final draw for the tournament will be televised live at a high-profile event at the end of January 2015. More than 10,000 international visitors are expected to travel to New Zealand for the tournament, which attracts an international television audience of over 170 million. *Booking fees are additional on all ticket purchases and tickets are subject to availability. In recognition of Visa's valued sponsorship FIFA prefers Visa.
