Scaling tutorial
Step 1
Download and print N7 Prop Codex.pdf. Fill out the codex. Note: If you are reading this on paper, well done! It worked.

Step 2
Downloading either the N7 A4 Platform psd-file or the N7 Letter Platform psd-file, depending on your printers capacity. Note: This file is used to place your scaled parts into. You can save as the parts one by one to the extension of your
choice, PDF is advised.

Step 3
Download the required part of N7 Armour. Open both files in Adobe Photoshop CS4 or higher. Note: The parts are converged into a whole. To scale successfully, keep the part together until you are done scaling.

Step 4
Go to the file that has the part you wish to scale, if you look closely you will find; 4 red triangles; 2 black bars. Rulers from Photoshop itself. If not present, press CTRL + R or Command + R to show them. You can right click these rulers to set it to metric units or imperial units. Note: Metric system or sticks, stones and body parts.. I mean imperial system.

Step 5
Now that you have your bearings set, we can start adjusting the two black bars to match the measurements of you carefully filled out on the Sizing page. Use the rulers for this. Adjust the Height bar and the Width bar to your measurements and place both bars in the center of the canvas. To make things easier you can lock these layers. Note: As you might notice, these are large psd files and your computer might take some time to transform it all. Why
so large? I dont know your size, and the lines of the pattern will stay sharp until the end.

Step 6
Now select the entire armour part, make sure you have all layers. And start scaling it until the red triangles line up with the black bars. Congratulations, you have a custom scaled N7 Armour part. Note: It is imperative you have all layer selected. To make sure, you can right click a layer and select Select All
Linked Layers.

Step 7
While you have selected all layers of the template, right click the layers and press unlink layers. You now have all the layers separated.

Note: The layers should no longer be linked, you can move them around freely now. But dont scale them anyfurther

Step 8
Make sure you completed step 7, before you proceed. Right click all the layers again and press Rasterize Layers. You now have all the layers separated and broken down into pixels.

Note: This where the magic happens, the templates are now scaled and sharp as a papercut. But your computer
should have an easier time now.

Step 9
Now that the scaling and converting the vector objects to pixels is complete, you can start dragging individual layers from the template into the N7 Platform canvas. Some parts can fill multiple pages, and some pages van be filled by multiple parts. You can save as the parts one by one to the extension of your choice, PDF is advised.

Note: Try to place it all as economic as possible. Witch will save you time and waste less paper and ink

Patience! Discipline! This process will consume quite some time, specially on the more complex parts, like the back torso. Dont over do it, prevent mistakes, play some Mass Effect or something. Come back fresh.

Tips & Advice

Clean edges The secret to clean edges is quite simple. Always have the foam with the smoothest side facing you. So that the knife cant wiggle around on the relief side of the foam, dont forget to flip your patterns. Next up is a very sharp exact knife with a blade longer then the thickness of the foam. So you can cut through without having the hilt of the blade being in the way. Followed by the technique used to cut the foam. Dont try to cut the foam in one stroke, it will dull your blades and well.. you dont get clean edges. Rather cut the foam in multiple strokes. The first stroke is quite important, it will set the path for the other 4 or 5 strokes that follow. Also very important in this is a steady hand of course. Make sure your comfortable when your cutting. The result should be smooth and with just a few visible lines from the amount of strokes. Dremel the lines away with a soft sanding tip and run down the edges with your heatgun really quick. Got a tip for this build? So long story story short. Cut smooth side of the foam in 4 or 5 strokes, use a sharp knife, dremel a bit, quick heatgun blast on the edges. Send it to Narayas on the 405th forum or the Replica Prop Forum.
