Mechanism of Action Reduces fever by direct action on hypothalamus heat-regulating center with consequent peripheral vasodilation, sweating, and dissipation of heat. IT has little effect on platelet aggregation, does not affect bleeding time, and generally produces no gastric bleeding.

After the administration of drug Monitor response to drug. Usual lag of 12 wk precedes response to lithium therapy. Keep physician informed of progress. Lab test: Periodic lithium levels (draw blood sample prior to next dose or 812 h after last dose); periodic thyroid function tests. Monitor for S&S of lithium toxicity (e.g., vomiting, diarrhea, lack of coordination, drowsiness, muscular weakness, slurred speech when level is 1.5 2.0 mEq/L; ataxia, blurred vision, giddiness, tinnitus, muscle twitching, coarse tremors, polyuria when >2.0 mEq/L). Withhold one dose and call physician. Drug should not be stopped abruptly. Monitor older adults carefully to prevent toxicity, which may occur at serum levels ordinarily tolerated by other patients. Be alert to and report symptoms of hypothyroidism. Weigh patient daily; check ankles, tibiae, and wrists for edema. Report changes in I&O ratio, sudden weight gain, or edema. Report early signs of extrapyramidal reactions promptly to physician.
Mechanism of Action An antisecretory compound that is a gastric acid pump inhibitor. Suppresses gastric acid secretion by inhibiting the H+, K+-ATPase enzyme system [the acid (proton H+) pump] in the parietal cells.

Proton pump inhibitors are usually prescribed to patients with ulcer. In the case of a typhoid fever patient, the acidity of the stomach serves as conducive environment for the cysts of salmonella typhi to hatch faster. In the case our patient, omeprazole is used to inhibit the gastric secretion thereby delaying the hatching of the cyts and slowing down the pathogenesis of the disease.

An antisecretory Mechanism of compound Action that is a gast Synthetic quinolone that is a broad spectrum bactericidal agent. Inhibits DNA-gyrase, an enzyme necessary for bacterial DNA replication and some aspects of transcription, repair, recombination, and transposition.
Indications Proton pump inhi UTIs, lower respiratory tract infections, skin and skin structure infections, bone and joint infections, GI infection or infectious diarrhea, chronic bacterial prostatitis, nosocomial pneumonia, acute sinusitis. Postexposure prophylaxis for anthrax. Ophthalmic : Corneal ulcers, bacterial conjunctivitis caused by Staphylococci, Streptococci, and Pse udomonas aeruginosa.
Contraindications Dysphagia; metabolic or respiratory alkalosis; lactation. Known hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin or other quinolones, syphilis, viral infection; tendon inflammation or tendon pain; pregnant women (category C), lactation.
