2. Getting Started
2.1 Unified Communications Licensing Overview
2.1.1 Cisco User Licensing From Cisco Unified Communications Release 9.0, applications are licensed from the perspective of an end user. This model is distinct from earlier releases, w here features w ere licensed by device. The follow ing sections introduce the tw o available licensing types: User Connect Licensing and Unified Workspace Licensing, w hich may be mixed w ithin a system deployment as required. 2.1.2 Cisco User Connect Licensing User Connect Licensing (UCL) allow s most Cisco Unified Communications products to be licensed on a per -user basis. With UCL, all client and server softw are, right-to-use (RTU) fees, port licenses, etc. are covered by the peruser license, simplifying the ordering and deployment process for an on-premises solution. UCL is available w ith the follow ing licenses (summarized in Table 1):
Essential UCL: This license enables use of an analog telephone adaptor (ATA) port or simple IP phone for shared w orking areas. Instant messaging and presence features are also included w here devices are assigned to a specific user.
Basic UCL: This license is suitable for desk-based users w ho require a voice-centric communications solution using an entry-level IP phone. It includes voice, instant messaging, and presence features.
Enhanced UCL: This license offers a richer collaborative experienc e for either desk-based or mobile users w ho require a single device. It includes voice, video, instant messaging, and presence features w hich may be enabled for mobile and remote access using Cisco Expressw ay .

Enhanced Plus UCL: This license offers a richer collaborative experience for desk-based and mobile users w ho require tw o devices. It includes voice, video, instant messaging, and presence features w hich may be enabled for mobile and remote access using Cisco Expressw ay .
TelePresence Room: This license enables any Cisco room-based telepresence system. Voice Messaging (voicemail): Enables voice messaging features for one user w ith Cisco Unity unified messaging, phone, and w eb).
Connection
Basic licensing. It includes advanced message access options (Internet Message Access Protocol [IMAP],
2.1.3 Cisco Unified Workspace Licensing Unified Workspace Licensing (UWL) offers an easy and affordable w ay to procure and deploy a broad range of Cisco Unified Communications applications and services using per -user licensing. UWL is available for the BE6000 in tw o editions (summarized in Table 1):
Standard Edition (CUWL-Std): This license offers a rich collaborative experience for desk-based and mobile users w ho require multiple devices. It includes voice, video, voice messaging, instant messaging, and presence features w hich may be enabled for mobile and remote access using Cisco Expressw ay . As an alternative to using the on-premises instant messaging and presence server, a 1-year WebEx
Messenger
service subscription may be chosen w ith this license. Business Edition (CUWL-BE) licensing, w hich offers the same entitlement as CUWL-Std, w ill remain available for purchase w ith version 9.X solutions for a limited period.
Professional Edition (CUWL-Pro): This license offers a comprehensive collaborative experience for users. In addition to the benefits of UWL Standard Edition, each license includes personal four w ay video calling and WebEx Meeting Center, either as a 1-year Named Host subscription or as a perpetual on-premises license. Note: Although UWL-Pro licensing may be used w ith the BE6000, it must be ordered separately and is
subject to a minimum order of 50 users per deployment. For more details about Cisco UWL, please visit: w ww.cisco.com/w eb/partners/downloads/partner/WWChannels/technology/ipc/dow nloads/finalcopy.pdf .

a. Single Fulfillment. When purchasing a BE6000 solution, Unified Communications licenses are delivered through a single Product Activation Key (PAK) for each order. In the case of the BE6000, all licenses in a PAK must now be fulfilled at the same time for use w ith one system. b. Starter Pack Enforcement. Each BE6000 solution is entitled to one license starter pack. Beginning w ith version 10 licensing, it w ill only be possible to deploy one license starter pack per system. Note: When ordering license starter packs, ensure that the target system does not already have a starter pack
installed. If it does, none of the licenses delivered in the same PAK w ill be eligible for use w ith that system.

In particular, BE6000 servers are subject to the Cisco 90-Day Limited Hardw are Warranty. Extended w arranty terms that apply to generic Cisco Unified Computing System (Cisco UCS) products do not apply. For further details, refer to: w ww.cisco.com/go/w arranty. 2.2.3 Cisco Unified Com m unications Softw are Subscription To complement Unified Communications Essential Operate Softw are support, Cisco Unified Communications Softw are Subscriptions (UCSS) provide access to major softw are version upgrades. To purchase UCSS, a subscription must be ordered for every installed user license or application. In turn, each subscription requires a valid Unified Communications Essential Operate Support (ESW) contract for activation. Although ESW contracts may be renew ed annually w ithin a multiyear softw are subscription, it is strongly recommended that UCSS and ESW be sold w ith congruent terms. When ordering UWL, a minimum 3-year UCSS subscription must be purchased for every user license (UCL and UWL) in a deployment. One-year agreements are available for government and education customers subject to applicable law s regarding multiyear contracts.

For new systems, use Cisco Commerce Workspace (CCW) to order electronic delivery, softw are subscriptions and support through the top-level product code R-CBE6K-K9 using the part numbers illustrated throughout this guide. When renew ing cover or adding additional licenses to an existing deployment, Cisco Support Contract Center (Cisco SCC) should be used to quote for and assign services. In particular, Cisco SCC allow s the purchase of prorated contract terms for new components to ensure the convenient co-termination of cover for the entire solution. For more information, refer to the guides posted at: w ww.cisco.com/go/ucssrenew als.
