The children are working in coal mines and factories, with no choice of whether they want to do it or not. This is not fair for miserable young children to have to work in the conditions that they are in. So the 64th Congress of the United States of America chose to write a bill called the Keating-Owen Child Labor Bill and it is a well-produced bill that is very reasonable and could really be a big help in child labor.I agree with the Keating-Owens Bill that there should be a restricted age to have to work. The Keating-Owen bill keeps young children at certain ages from child labor. It states that children between the ages of fourteen years and sixteen years have been employed or permitted to work more than eight hours in any day (Keating-Owen). So children under the age of 14 cant be forced into child labor and even if they are old enough, they will only have to work for a certain amount of hours. It is said that little kids are not able to take care of themselves in modern industry and thats why little kids shouldnt have to deal with child labor. This is true;kids should not have to be as independent as they are. These kids arent just forced to be a little independent, but they are also getting hurt. They are getting stuck under machines, but with the Keating-Owens bill, the kids probably wont have to worry about getting hurt by machines. This bill could lead people away from the greed and ignorance that encourage child labor. Child labor has a lower value and so the kids dont get as much money as an adult would. So even though a lot of parents required their children to work so they could get money for their families, this bill would persuade men to have jobs to make more money. So the parents would work for their money instead of sending their child off. The rate of young children dying and getting hurt by dangerous machines will go down. Statistics show that three times as many industrial accidents occur to children as to adults (Hines). While working, young childrenare forced to climb under machines to sweep all the remaining dust, which is very dangerous and is one of the reasons children are dying. So under this bill, children will not have to work in factories in these dangerous conditions. The Keating-Owen bill will help with all the problems of today and help to make children safe. It has a big effect on child labor and interstate commerce. Helping to stop these things and making our country better and safe. So the Keating-Owen bill should be passed for all the innocent souls that have been lost because of child labor.
