Specifications with order numbers indicated in red are adopted by ASME with additional requirements.
AWS publishes Standard Welding Procedure Specifications (SWPSs), which are prepared by the Welding Procedures Committee of the Welding Research Council. They are balloted through the AWS standards-development program as American National Standards. Standard Welding Procedure Specifications may be used on work covered by the AWS D1.1, Structural Welding CodeSteel, with the engineers approval. The National Board Inspection Code has adopted SWPSs as indicated. SWPSs with red order numbers may be used on ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel work with additional requirements spelled out in Section IX of ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code. All licenses are good for unlimited intracompany applications.
Web orders: Use AWS and exact order number, or AWS B2.1 for an online list of all AWS SWPSs.
The one-time user-license fee for each Standard Welding Procedure Specification is $183 ($244 for nonmembers). Refer to license order number.

Describes a standard 25mm x 12mm x 80mm test specimen and preparation method, with two standard methods of diffusible hydrogen analysis: mercury displacement and gas chromatography. The methods are suitable for FCAW, GMAW, and SMAW. ANSI Approved. 26 pages. (Reaffirmed 1997).
A4.4M: 2001, Standard Procedures for Determination of Moisture Content of Welding Fluxes and Welding Electrode Flux Coverings
This document establishes standard procedures for determining the moisture content of welding fluxes and welding electrode coverings. The test involves combustion of a sample in an oxygen carrier gas at elevated temperature, and using Karl Fischer titration or infrared detection to measure any water evolved from the sample or formed by the combustion process. The key differences between these methods and traditional thermo gravimetric techniques are the inclusion of instrument calibration procedures, system verification checks, and use of more accurate analytical techniques for water detection. ANSI Approved. 32 pages, 4 figures, 3 tables.

Certification Programs
AWS maintains the National Registry of all certified and accredited professionals and entities related to welding, and conducts widely recognized certification programs to ensure that inspectors, educators, and welders can perform to an industrystandardized level. The certification process entails a rigorous review of credentials, followed by a written examination and hands-on trials. Members pay discounted application and examination fees. Since the AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) program began in 1979, it has certified over 47,000 people. AWS also accredits the testing facilities that conduct qualification procedures, and develops customized welder qualification programs for other organizations, including private companies.

Security Features for Electronic Downloads
In an effort to protect their intellectual property and enforce existing copyright laws, many Standards Developing Organizations have required all distributors of their content to implement security features that prevent the reproduction and redistribution of downloaded documents. AWS and Global Engineering Documents have implemented a security policy that uses a free Adobe Acrobat plug-in from FileOpen Systems, Inc. Security Features: Reproduction and Redistribution Restrictions: The free Adobe Acrobat plug-in locks the PDF file to the computer on which it was first opened. Once a PDF file has been locked to a computer, it can be opened only from that computer. Networking Restrictions: Secure PDF files cannot be used in a multi-user, network environment. If you are interested in purchasing standards for your internal corporate network, please contact your local Global office to obtain a network version of the document(s) and a network license. Viewing Restrictions: You must download the free plug-in to view any secured PDF document. There is no limit to the number of times a document may be viewed on your computer. Printing Restrictions: The plug-in limits the number of times the document may be printed to one copy. Since the software interprets printing a part of the document as the one allowable print attempt, we recommend you print the entire document. Copy & Paste Restrictions: The ability to copy and paste text from the PDF file has been disabled.
6. Standing Orders The Standing Order program offers an advantage to customers who wish to maintain current files of AWS standards and publications. By completing and returning the Standing Order Agreement form on page 43 of this catalog, new and revised versions of documents you have ordered previously will be shipped to you automatically and invoiced accordingly. The Standing Order Agreement can be canceled at any time. Contact Global for additional information. 7. Sales Tax All U.S. purchases must include applicable state and local sales tax. Customers claiming tax exempt status must provide Global with a copy of their exemption certificate. 8. Shipping (U.S. Orders) Most orders will be shipped the same day. U.S. orders are shipped via traceable means (primarily UPS ground). Other delivery options include nextday service, electronic delivery, and fax transmission. 9.
