4. FIRST AID MEASURES

Inhalation Remove the source of contamination or move the victim to fresh air. Ensure airways are clear and have qualified person give oxygen through a face mask if breathing is difficult. Apply artificial respiration if not breathing. Seek medical attention. If swallowed, do NOT induce vomiting. Wash out mouth thoroughly with water. Seek medical attention. Wash affected area thoroughly with soap and water. Remove contaminated clothing and wash before reuse or discard. If symptoms develop seek medical attention. If in eyes wash out immediately with water. Continue flushing for several minutes until all contaminants are washed off completely. Seek medical attention. Eye wash station, safety shower and normal washroom facilities. Treat symptomatically. For advice in an emergency, contact a Poisons Information Centre (Phone 13 11 26 in Australia) or a doctor. Extinguish fire with foam, dry chemical powder or carbon dioxide. Do not use water jet. Under fire conditions this product may emit toxic and/or irritating fumes including carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. Highly flammable liquid. Vapour/air mixtures may ignite explosively. Vapours are heavier than air and can accumulate in low areas; they may travel a considerable distance to a source of ignition and flash back. Precautions should be taken to eliminate the build up of explosive mixtures. 3[Y]E Fire fighters should wear Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and full protective clothing to prevent exposure to vapours, fumes or products of combustion. If necessary place non-combustible, inert absorbent material onto spillage. Use clean, non-sparking tools to collect the material and place into suitable labelled containers or drums for the subsequent recycling or disposal. Dispose of waste according to the applicable local and national regulations. If contamination of sewers or waterways occurs inform the local water authorities and EPA in accordance with local regulations. Wear appropriate protective clothing and equipment to prevent inhalation, skin and eye contact. Handle and use the material in a well-ventilated area, away from sparks, flames and other ignition sources. Maintain a high level of personal hygiene when using the product, that is, always wash hands after handling, and before eating, drinking, smoking or using the toilet facilities. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from sources of ignition, oxidising agents, foodstuffs, and out of direct sunlight. Have appropriate fire extinguishers available in and near the storage area. Take precautions against static electricity discharges. For information on the design of the storeroom, reference should be made to Australian Standard AS1940 - The storage and handling of flammable and combustible liquids. No exposure standards have been established for the mixture by the National Occupational Health & Safety Commission (NOHSC), Australia. However, over-exposure to some chemicals may result in enhancement of pre-existing adverse medical conditions and/or allergic reactions and should be kept to the least possible levels.
