Basic Applications (continued) Customized Features

Basic Applications: Flow Control/Line Isolation

1. Isolate a system. 2. Control flow when water is being metered.

CI

- Check Feature (Internal Modification)

Primarily Controlled By: Hydraulic pressure Located: Inside the main valve Purpose: To prevent reverse flow through the main valve BASIC APPLICATIONS: Provides extra protection against back flow or dumping the tank in situations, for example, if there is a sudden drop in inlet pressure (from supply flowing into the valve): 1. When water is being measured and paid for. 2. If the supply line in a separate fill-empty system breaks. NOTE: The exact modification differs according to need. Some types can only be incorporated in the factory before the valve is shipped and, once done, cant be changed without substantial parts replacement. CONSULT A ROSS ENGINEER: To recommend the appropriate internal modification.

ES
If: Line needs to be isolated from the system Ross Main Valve will: Full close to stop flow. If: Line needs to be brought into the system Ross Main Valve will: Full open to start flow.
COMMON CONFIGURATIONS

- Higher Efficiency Strainer

Located: On external piping Purpose: To provide extra protection against fouling or damaging the control system from foreign particles BASIC APPLICATION: Protect external piping and controls when extremely fine particles and/or more than usual debris is expected. NOTE: This strainer offers an increased capacity to hold debris and comes with a finer screen than the standard strainer.

ON-OFF VALVE
Operation Model Number: 42WR

Control Unit
An external piping circuit controls flow in and out of the operating chamber. It includes: 1. Two external piping segments connected to a solenoid pilot valve, also attached to the: a. Inlet side of the main valve - Introduces incoming water up to the solenoid pilot. b. Operating chamber - Directs flow from the solenoid into the chamber. 2. 3 Way Solenoid Pilot Valve - Three openings and two ports control pressure in the operating chamber: 1 Opening - to operating the chamber. 1 Opening - to line (controlled by port) 1 Opening - to waste (controlled by port) 3. Needle valve - Limits water flow into the operating chamber. (Can be adjusted to increase or decrease flow rate into the chamber.)

ROSS ADVANTAGE
1. Ross engineers provide in depth service based on a. state of the art technology and b. the companys experience which dates back to 1879. 2. Rugged construction materials provide a longer valve life and insure that the valve WILL NOT experience sudden breakdowns due to component failures. 3. Valve is completely pre-piped, tested and adjusted in the factory. 4. All parts are built and manufactured in the USA.

Note
1. This valve is essentially the same as the Electric Altitude Valve, Model: 50FWR 2. In order to insure that the valve will function as desired during a power outage, it is important to carefully determine if it should be open or closed when the solenoid is de-energized.

Operation
The valve is electrically controlled to be fully open or fully closed. There is no in between. This straight foreword operation provides an efficient way to stop and start flow. 1. To start flow, the a. Solenoid is energized (de-energized). b. Port controlling the supply water closes. c. Port diverting water to waste opens. d. Water flows out of the operating chamber into the atmosphere. e. Water flowing into the main line valve, encountering decreased resistance, presses the piston up. f. Main valve full opens. 2. To stop flow, the a. Solenoid is de-energized (energized). b. Port controlling the supply water opens. c. Port diverting water to waste closes. d. Water flows from the inlet side of the main valve through the external piping and into the operating chamber. e. Operating chamber fills up with water and presses the main valve piston down.

1 Coil 2 Core 3 Upper Seat 4 Lower Seat

Basic Valve: On-Off Valve (42WR)

The electric on-off valve shall be energized (or deenergized) when the maximum desired water level in the tank is reached or when a system needs to be isolated. This shall cause the valve to close fully. De-energizing (or energizing) the pilot control shall cause the valve to open fully for refilling. The valve shall be ruggedly constructed with a size ________________inch, 125 lb. / 250 lb. flanged, full ported globe / angle body design. The electric on-off valve shall be fully bronze mounted, external pilot operated, with a rugged internal free floating piston (operated without springs, diaphragm or levers), single seat with seat bore equal to size of valve. The minimum travel of the piston shall be equal to 25% of the diameter of the seat. For true alignment (to correct lateral thrust and stem binding) the piston shall be guided above and below the seat a distance no less than 75% of the seat diameter. The piston shall carry a contoured cushion device that will cause a gradual change in flow area as the valve approaches the seat. The cushion device must move with the piston to minimize head loss when the valve is fully opened and so designed as to insure positive closure. The main valve shall be packed with leather (or other soft material) to insure tight closure and prevent metal to metal friction and seating. The main valve shall include a position indicator to show position of opening of the piston. The main valve will include gauge cocks for testing purposes. The pilot valve, controlling operation of the main valve, shall be easily accessible and so arranged to allow for its removal from the main valve while the main valve is under pressure.

Pilot: Solenoid - 3 Way

Primarily Controlled By: Electricity Located: Installed on the main valve external piping circuit. Three openings and two ports control pressure in the operating chamber: 1 Opening - to the operating chamber 1 Opening - to the line (controlled by 1 port) 1 Opening - to waste (controlled by 1 port) Purpose: To cause water to empty out of or flow into the operating chamber on command

Operation
A 3 way solenoid pilot valve port to the operating chamber is always open. OPTION 1 - When the pilot is: De-Energized - Port to line opens/waste port closes so water flows into and gets trapped in the operating chamber, to FULL CLOSE the main valve. Energized - Port to line closes/waste port opens so water flows out of the operating chamber (to waste) to FULL OPEN the main valve. OPTION 2 - When the pilot is: De-Energized - Port to line closes/waste port opens so water flows out of the operating chamber (to waste) to FULL OPEN the main valve. Energized - Port to line opens/waste port closes so water flows into and gets trapped in the operating chamber, to FULL CLOSE the main valve.
