Lucent UMTS Macrocell Compact Product Datasheet
Product Overview
This data sheet provides a high level description of the key aspects of the Lucent UMTS Macrocell Compact. Amplifier Shelf Each Power Amplifier Module (PAM) provides up to 40Wpower output. Up to 6 PAMs per shelf can be supported, and the Node B hardware architecture allows two PAMs to be used in parallel to increase power output. Baseband Card Cage The UMTS baseband channel unit contains the radios and the channel elements and processes data and voice calls. Timing can be derived from an internal high accuracy oscillator or via an optional external GPS reference. The common assets used by all of the Lucent UMTS Node B products provide flexibility in configuration and allow a common spares pool. These assets include filters, amplifiers and digital circuit packs.
Lucents UMTS Node B product range is specifically designed to provide a range of flexible and high performance base station solutions with embedded cost optimizing features and high operational availability in a UMTS network. With focus on cost and size, the UMTS Macrocell Compact is the smallest member of the UMTS Macrocell family available supporting up to 3s2c and available in both outdoor and indoor configurations. The UMTS Macrocell Compact provides an ideal solution for initial deployments, and supports later growth as traffic levels increase. Its small size allows deployment in a wide range of locations. Future capacity enhancement plans mean that operators will be able to deploy this product to provide wide scale geographic coverage, confident that its capacity will grow as traffic levels increase. The architecture of the UMTS Node B Macrocell is common to all Lucent UMTS Node B products. It consists of three main components, (the Filter Module, Power Amplifier and the Baseband Card Cage.) the functions of which are as follows: Filter Module The filter module provides the interface between the amplifier and receiver, and the Tx/Rx antenna system. In addition to the duplexer functionality it also contains a low noise pre-amplifier, a two-way multicoupler and a power supply/alarm unit for the TTLNA support. The standard Lucent Filter Module supports both standalone and antenna sharing configurations.
Technical Performance
The UMTS Macrocell Compact supports configurations up to 3 sectors with 2 carriers per sector and an RF output of 20W at the antenna interface. Hardware support for second carrier, 40W configurations and Transit Diversity are available as options. UMTS Channel Unit (UCU) Cards: UCU cards are the baseband modules that provide the required capacity, in the different Node B types, for traffic and signalling. They are a pooled resource that can be allocated dynamically across the air interface. Adding UCU cards increases baseband capacity and the capacity per UCU is continually being enhanced by Lucent. UMTS Radio cards (MCR): With the Multi-Carrier Radio, growth to second carrier configurations for the Macrocell are supported. The 15MHz MCR is a single slot card and is common across the UMTS Node B portfolio. Versions to support 850MHz, 1900 MHz and 2100MHz are available, and dual-band configurations are supported. Support of Future Enhancements: The UMTS Node B portfolio has been designed for an IP-based future, and to scale in capacity as demand dictates and technology allows. Additional features such as RACH/FACH, HSDPA and the later introduction of E-DCH offer improvements and increases in baseband capacity for higher data rates.
