Unit Conversion Factors

Following are conversion factors for various units of measure, primarily to international SI units. (See NIST Special Publication 811, Guide for the Use of the International System of Units, US Government Printing Office, Washington, DC, 1991.) Factors are given as a number equal to or greater than 1 and less than 10. This number is followed by the letter E (for exponent), plus or minus two digits which indicate the power of 10 by which the number must be multiplied. For instance: 2 54 E + 02 is 2 54 102

Conversion from one non-SI unit to another non-SI unit can be carried out in two steps, as illustrated: 1 in. = 2 54 E02 m 1 ft. = 3 048 E01 m Combining: 1 ft = 3 048 E01 = 12 in 2 54 E02 in
