There was a need for 'see-through' packaging that would not only highlight the product by making it visible but also protect it from dust and atmospheric gases (prevent oxidation). Rigid PVC was seen as a substitute for the traditional cardboard as it was both transparent and sturdy enough to withstand jolts & jerks during transportation.
